Emily is not obese. Yes, her legs are thicker than most ladies but if you watch her skating it's clear that she is very powerful. She reminds me a bit of Tonya Harding physically. She's fit in the rest of her body. If you saw her in person she'd look smaller (tv does not flatter) but anyone would look "big" next to a lot of these female skaters who are built like ballerinas.

I agree. Figure skaters work very hard and train long hours. Different skaters have different body types. Nothing to complain about - she did her best, put on many good performances, was very positive and was ready to go when she got the call to substitute for Michelle at the Olympics. I enjoyed her natural enthusiasm for the sport.

As for Kimmie, She's perfect the way she is. She doesn't need to gain or lose weight in order to perform her best. She's a natural athlete!

She lost the Title by .83 points. She was second in the free skate to Alyssa Czisny. Kimmie finished 3rd in the free but was in the lead going into the short program. Alyssa was 5th after shirt program.

People shouldn't make comments about skaters like Emily Hughes being obese while others making comments about Sasha 'suffering from anorexia' These are simply untruths and dangerously misleading comments that do not belong on this or any other forum. Emily and Sasha are built differently. Sasha looks better when she is slim as the extra 'pounds' does not do the skater justice. Emily is naturally a 'husky' athlete and it makes absolutely no difference on the weight gained or loss.

Whether or not you agree that Emily was slightly "bigger" than many other ladies in figure skating, Obese is NEVER a word that could be attributed to her in any of her elite competition years. She is simply NOT obese. It is so offensive and stupid that people would attribute such a word to someone in athletic shape who could knock out a killer 4 minute long program. She may have had slightly bigger thighs but so did Midori Ito and Tonya Harding and now Wakaba Higuchi. STOP saying a skater is obese just because they are not rail thin.

officeaddict33 Obesity, in general, isn’t an appropriate word to describe an athlete. Many people are completely clueless when they make deplorable comments about Emily Hughes. Obesity is an acquired condition that has more to do with the lack of physical activity and is also the result of overeating. As a person whose aunt is obese and whose former friend of my late mother, her daughter suffered from anoxia and is having seizures as the result of it. Athletes are fit regardless and one should not be making incriminating comments on them. As for Emily Hughes, she has been a good figure skater despite her consistency issues.
