    That last shot of the crank arm snapping off was scary. Just slipping off or missing a pedal is bad enough.

      @MysteriousOklahoma Lucky it was just a cut and nothing worse. I snapped off a seat post during a 12 hour mtn bike race, had to finish the last 5 hours with my seat about 2" too low (It had snapped right at the seat post clamp). Totally sucked trying to maintain any resemblance to speed

    Amazing that derailleur tech has not evolved very much yet the pricing has evolved exponentially

    • @MarcABrown-tt1fp
      @MarcABrown-tt1fp 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Better clutch materials for better chain dampening mostly, stronger frames and more efficient weight savings, also better sleeve berings that last much longer. bikes have been evolving in many ways for a while, just slowly. My budget giant bike probably needs a better front fork as the bike is much heavier in the front due to the coil spring shock and thick tubes despite only having 100mm of travel.

They were bought out by Adidas a while ago and did the standard "evil corporation" thing of getting rid of the employees that made it great in the first place. Many of them went on to start Ride Concepts and other good smaller companies. Almost all of the full suspension ones the rear wheel is bouncing. So it looks like the rear is not so much dampening the movement, more like just a spring.

    Every fork flexes before they compress.

  • @andrmikg

    It looked like all the carbon frames had enormous flex which interfered with the performance of the front suspension.

    • @pe3117
      @pe3117 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They don’t interference nothing...Carbon flex and with the suspension is part of the absorption on the impact....🤷‍♂️

    • @andrmikg
      @andrmikg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@pe3117 I am just looking at the video and I see that after contact the front suspension compresses a bit, then the frame flexes then the suspension compresses in a staggered manner until full compression. For optimal smoothness the suspension should receive impact force that is parallel with the stanchions. The more off the angle of the force is less smooth and more stress(stichtion?). Also more stress on the head tube due to the flex resulting in a slacker head tube angle. This is for example why Fox uses the floating axles although that is to combat lateral forces (not an engineer but that is kind of the point)

    • @danielbicioc4214
      @danielbicioc4214 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Surely the head tube angle would play a bigger role there

    • @andrmikg
      @andrmikg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@danielbicioc4214 i would assume that under normal conditions the HTA is the main contributor. Under high load and variable terrain (exactly where you need the suspension to be working optimally) is when flex comes into play. naturally this is improved by having a zeb or fox 38 but also DH forks

    • @PeakTorque
      @PeakTorque 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@andrmikg Yep You are right. Due to the HT and fork flex the front wheel and fork goes into 1st mode resonance giving a lumpy and staggered compression the the fork.
