The point of the series is that a famous Japanese creator wanted to use these puppets to tell stories. When talking about the puppets and the set design it's arguable whether it's Japanese or Chinese...but the voices, the poems, and the story/plot in general are largely Japanese creations.

In fact there's no glove puppet in PRC, It is orginal from Taiwan.
