Update about accessibility: there is an elevator to get in, so it is accessible! Another update! The Sky Lobby in the Mori JP Tower was only open to the public temporarily. Since 17/04/24, it's now only for businesses located in the skyscraper. But Tokyo Tower's only a short walk away!
Went to the initial team labs in Odaiba in 2019. Didn’t realize the Azabudai Hills was the same one that moved over from Odaiba until about halfway through my visit. I have to agree that Odaiba was better with that large ball room and a couple others. One last FYI to anyone @ 18:00 Floor 33 Observation tower will be closed to guests permanently and will only be accessible to residents of AHs from April 24, 2024. There are signs posted around when I went last week.
I just saw that yesterday! That'll explain why the Sky Lobby in the Mori Tower wasn't being advertised anywhere. Glad you got in just before it closes to the public. It seems like TeamLab in Okinawa has several of the installations that used to be upstairs in the original TeamLab Borderless, so maybe they sent them there.
That's good to know! They seemed to have made an effort to make the whole place more accessible than I thought there must be an accessible entrance. I'd checked on their website but surprisingly they don't mention it in the FAQs yet.
@cakeswithfaces at the entrance a staff member spotted my white cane and offered an accessible route. Borderless was fsbtast8c - probably my favourite place I visited in my week in Tokyo 😀
Hi Amy, thank you for the video. I've added teamLab Borderless to the list of places to visit on our trip to Osaka and Tokyo in early May. teamLab Planets was great, so were Tokyo Tower. Looking forward to visit that area in Tokyo once again 🙂
Thanks for this video! I hope to eventually get to Team Lab Borderless, but strangely what helped me the most in this video is to know how close it is to Tokyo Tower, which is another sight my fiancee and I want to see. Being able to see both in the same day with only a short walk from one to the other is perfect.
Looks amazing. I'm hoping to visit Japan early next year, and I'll decide which one to visit then. Both look well worth it. I lean towards Planets only because of the interactive element, but I do like Borderless' more leisurely stroll. Choices!
Thank you for this gorgeous video Amy :) I am looking forward to visit Team Lab Borderless in October this year. I am so excited and want to see everything you have shown. Thank you for the walkthrough as well. As someone who is really focused on planning and organizing, this helps my anxiety of missing out. No I feel prepared to visit it 🩷
Nice video, I could have used it 3 weeks ago! 😁 It’s not super obvious how to find it from outside. We did find our way back to the metro via underground, but I’m glad we came in from outside as there’s some interesting architecture along the way. My first Teamlab experience and I was very impressed.
I was surprised it wasn't that obvious where to go when you arrive at Azabudai Hills! I guess maybe because it's a complex where people live and work, not just tourist attraction. TeamLab Planets for example has a huge sign on the outside of the building that's very obvious as soon as you exit the station. 😂
Hi Amy - Cakes with Faces. My wife and I just got back from Japan. We visited TeamLab Borderless during our stay. Your video was very helpful, and I believe we found all the rooms inside (maybe). My wife loved the tea room a lot. We spent more than 2 hours inside, time flies when you're having fun. Thanks again for your excellent information thru your channel and your book, both are highly appreciated and very helpful when trying to figure out what to do in Japan. We took your advice and booked Green Car tickets with oversized baggage space at the rear of the car. We rode the Nozomi 18 train from Shin-Osaka to Tokyo Station, the journey took 2 hours 27 minutes, and we arrived only a few seconds after the scheduled time at 2:30 PM - highest speed recorded was 291 Kmh or 180 Mph 🙂
@@cakeswithfaces Shinkansen is amazing, very quiet and have a smooth ride. The Green Car is somewhere in between premium seats and business class seats on an airliner, very comfortable indeed 🙂
Thanks for this video! Based on this, I visited TeamLab Borderless on my mostly-business trip to Japan 2 weeks ago and it was fabulous. I also recommend the street art exhibit at the Mori Art Museum which is nearby.
Unfortunately teamLab Borderless was not open yet when I was in Japan in Nov. 2023 but it is at the top of my list of things to see when I go back in Nov. 2025 (will probably be less crowded then too). I did get to see their temp exhibit at Kanazawa Castle and they have an exhibit in Miami, FL that I'll be visiting soon. It will be interesting to compare them.

I went to Team Lab Fukuoka in early March. I really enjoyed it. Now I want to see other Team Labs in Japan. I wish they had a Team Lab in Las Vegas. They’ll make lots of money there. I’m from Hawaii and I love going to Japan.
Yes, I thought it'd work well in Vegas too! And Disney World, with a little Disney theming, maybe at Disney Springs. I went to TeamLab Fukuoka earlier this year too - it's so much fun!
I am sure that this video is great Amy. However, I am not going to watch it, because I will be travelling to Japan again next February/March, and will definitely visit TeamLab Borderless. And I want to keep it "as a surprise" and discover once there how it is. I dont want the surprise element to be spoiled.

It looks great, I’m not sure if I’d go to one in Japan as they have similar experiences in London now, but I’d go for Borderless over Planets as I’ve heard of people getting skin problems from the water! 😮
It's great that there are similar places popping up now. The UK ones seem more based on artists than TeamLab - I went to a small Frida Kahlo one locally a while back!
There's no water at TeamLab Borderless - it's all regular flooring, so any footwear is good! The water rooms are only at TeamLab Planets (completely separate, in Toyosu).
Was at Teamlabs Borderless in March. In my opinion, it was okay. Looks surreal in photos and videos but for the most part, it's just a fancy house of mirrors and projectors. Was it worth a visit? I suppose visiting it once is fine but wouldn't be going back again.
I just got back 2 weeks ago and wanted to edit this video quickly as TeamLab only re-opened last month! The previous video about how expensive things are is from this year too. It might be a bit mixed up as I still have videos to edit from last year's trip! 🙈
It appears the locker room is before the actual entrance where you show tickets. What's the policy on how long things can be stored in the locker area if you leave the premises? I'm planning on leaving my bags there maybe 5 or so hours. I imagine 3 hours in TeamLab Boderless, and when I'm done, I want to quickly walk over to see Tokyo Tower up close which appears to be a 7-minute walk (just seeing it, not paying to get up to the deck), grab a quick bite to eat for dinner and just walk around the area a bit. I think as long as I'm back before 9PM, I should just be able to go back into the TeamLab building to retrieve my luggage?
You're right, Tokyo Tower's within walking distance (I've walked there afterwards as it's so close!). The lockers at TeamLab Borderless are before the ticket gates. There's a member of staff standing in the corridor before you get to the lockers, but as I remember, I *think* they're there to help and direct rather than check everyone's tickets. However, as TeamLab Borderless is so busy, to be considerate to others, you're not really supposed to use them all day, just while you're there. If you went and couldn't find an empty locker because other people had done the same, it'd be a pain. There are other lockers around Azabudai Hills (it's an indoor complex, similar to a shopping mall), and at the stations nearby, where you could leave your bags if you don't want to carry them around for the rest of the day.
Hi thanks you for your video, i discovered borderless thanks to you and i will definitely pass by on my next trip in Japan. But i would like to know what is the best schedule to avoid crowds ? I don't know if it's better on the morning or late evening, i want to have the best experience so :)
Glad you discovered it - I'd definitely recommend it to anyone! :-) It's tricky to say which is best as I haven't been in the evening. Looking at ticket availability, the morning tickets sell out first so that suggests the evening may be quieter. However you'd have people who've entered in the afternoon still there, and if you go at opening, it's just you and the first batch of people so it's quieter. I expect the later it gets, the more people will have left and gone home - but make sure you allow enough time to look round - you can easily spend 3 hours there.
We went a few days ago. First to Borderless and the next day to Planets. Maybe we should have done it the other way around. Both are great but for both of us Borderless was EPIC. Planets felt somewhat short and a bit of a letdown compared to Borderless.

Probably Planets as it has more physical rooms and less just looking at things - although it is smaller. At Planets there are the water rooms that are more unusual, and rooms with unusual floor types.
