  • For this new album review, Tyler Childers streamlines even further and peels back to a strong if short compilation of songs.
Best Songs: 'Phone Calls and Emails’, ‘In Your Love’, ‘Luke 2:8-10’, ‘Help Me Make It Through The Night’
    Worst Songs: 'Space and Time’

I love Tyler Childers, mainly because I have a connection to him. He's a Millwright by trade, and worked with my dad on a job before he ever got famous.

This feels like his new mainstream label is trying to end his run.

As the success of Zach Bryan and (sigh) Oliver Anthony has shown us, there is an audience for the mix of acoustic folk and country that is big enough to get songs debuting on the top of the Hot 100.
What I'm trying to say is that I hope Rustin' In The Rain gets a handful of songs charting near the bottom of the Hot 100, to be the Austin to Olivia Rodrigo's UTOPIA.

I don’t know if it’s up to someone who can’t relate to the little bit of traditionalism in Country Squire to set the bar for a “focused cut of tight no bullshit country”.
I don’t think Tyler ever set out to be famous. I think he wanted to write and preform, make a few dimes and go on home to his family. Which is exactly what he plans to do. So as that track list dwindles down I’m gonna thank my lucky stars I got to be alive to bear witness and when it’s finally over I can be grateful for at least one thing…y’all won’t get to shit on a man who ain’t done nothing but drop bangers anymore. Off your radar.
