    Great wonderful tip!
    A couple of little updates for your tips.
    for tip#1, you want to double wrap the line around the spool. It creates just a little more friction so when the reel is completely unwound, you don't have to fight it to reel back up and it keeps slipping on the spool.
    For the bucket handle trick, if you carry a Swiss Army knife they usually have a hook on them. That hook is super easy on the hands when carrying the bucket.
    for braided line trick, you can take a Bic ink pen, pull out the ink cartridge and end cap, stuff the rope end inside and there's a good easy way to push it through. This also works with nylon rope when braiding or making loops...an old Eagle Scout trick.
    Your coozie/reel trick is great, when you're in a pinch you can also use your nail clippers to clip a small angled cut on the spool and pull the line into it. This is great for those thin spools you keep in your tackle box.
    the wallet/braided fishing line trick, I cut up my old wallets into about 3-4" strips and keep it in my multitool case. That way I can wrap it around the multitool and wrap my line around that for those really stubborn tree-bass that always steal my lures.
    For whipping your rods down, a little trick my grandpa taught me. When you get you pole, or when storing them, wipe them down with turtle wax. This will make them 1000% easier to clean later. and it also UV protects them from cracking when left in your truck or car.

    I keep a roll of waterproof gauze tape in my line bag to make tag tape for my spools. It does not leave a residue on the line when it is removed and can be reapplied multiple times before it is needed to be replaced.

    I know this is an older video but maybe someone will see this tip to make stropping even better. Get some green buffing compound and apply to the old belt. It will take quite a bit to start but then light occasional refreshing is all that is needed. Harbor Freight carries the compound and it's also available online.
    Also, in addition to the top edge of car windows, the best sharpener in the kitchen is the bottom of anything ceramic such as a coffee mug.

  • @sciguyjeff

    Okay, only half way through so might have more to add later. The pinfish rig you had with the loose sinker. The problem with looping the sinker to the reel is that know you have a dangling hook to catch into things. The bait bucket rig is great but I suggest you go to Walmart or similar store (not a pet store) and get a bottle of the aquarium safe liquid that help protect fish and their slime coat. It's cheaper than other places and does help keep your fish alive. Third, your bucket handle. If you have a dollar tree or just have one lying around, get a pool noodle, those float tubes of sytrofoam, and cut a length you want and tape it. Noodles are also great to hook lures onto and to use as corks for surprising heavy things.

    Leather, by itself, does little to hone a blade. The pro straps have all been "charged". That means that a metal polish has been massaged into the leather. I use the Harbor Freight stainless steel compound. It's cheap, easy to find, and does a great job. Try it. You'll thank me. It will give you a mirror bright edge.

    Use marine grease in your reels. Mercury Marine Quicksilver 2-4-C is Teflon based and is fairly inexpensive at Wal-Mart. If you have carbon fiber drag washers, give them a coating of any Teflon based grease for a smoother drag. Greased carbon fiber drags are the way to go, but the grease must be Teflon based. You lose a pound or maybe two lbs of drag at maximum drag, but your drag is smoother.

    • @RadReelingFishing
      @RadReelingFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tips. I actually am trying out a budget reel that I like a lot except the carbon fiber drag system isn't very smooth. I'm heading to Walmart! Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @eddielikesfishing
      @eddielikesfishing 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RadReelingFishing
      You're welcome. I hope it helps your drag out. If they are really bad, you may have to ensure that the metal washers are ground flat. The metal washers when they punch them out, they deform by starting to cup. That deformity in the metal washers will cause your drag to be rough. You might be able to get some ground flat washers from smoothdrag.com or mysticparts.com, or you can try grinding them down flat by hand and polish them. Make sure you put the metal washers back in the same sequence they came out. If it's an older Penn the metals will be eared, keyed, eared or keyed, eared, keyed. The eared washers will have what looks like ears on them, and the keyed washers the center hole will have two flat spots that fit nicely on the gear sleeve.
      The old asbestos drag washers from years ago were notorious for being jerky. I am so glad that carbon fiber came along.

    We always freeze a gallon jug of water tot ake and drink. Hint - hot days andyou need to keep your live bait alive, freeze a couple of small water bottles and drop on in (lid attached) in your live well. Cools the water down whic h means it will hold more oxygen and cools the bait.

    Love the video but please throw that knife sharpener away! I sharpen knives as a profession, and those things will chew your bevel up! A better option is to get a small round whet stone and spend an afternoon practicing with it. You can find one for a few bucks at any outdoor store. A lot more durable than those pocket sharpeners, and you're definitely gonna get a lot more use out of that knife.
