I recently replaced Split up copper ( September 2016) with CPVC and Used Dollar Tree Foam Pool Noodles putting a fine cut down one Side and then put them over the Pipe; Doing this after completing the CPVC install and had no leaks or Splits all winter long,.. Very Impressed at a lessor price...plus it made for a Colorful Basement Ceiling... :) I joined the Foam Pipes with Duct Tape,.. All Winter last Winter ( and it was a Long winter) ... I have not even One leak or split...

Foam with the self sealing seam is basically double sided tape pre installed.
Therefore if you buy the cheaper foam without the tape already applied, you can buy and apply double sided tape to the seam to close as you install.

Pipe insulation also helps to reduce vapor condensation on cold water pipes.

My plastic elbow broke from my toilet or tub line and I replaced it now I need to put insulation should I put both that lil plastic thing then insulation? Or just wrap the insulation and everything should be kool? Almost winter in Chicago it’s no joke can’t afford a costly plumbing bill.

Armafelx insulation won't prevent pipes from freezing. Maybe if it's right at 32 degrees, but once it starts really dropping the only insulation that will help is fiberglass

Armaflex rubber insulation isn’t really that good for hot water pipes, it might melt. Fiberglass insulation is the best for heating pipes ,

I don’t believe anyone insulates has pipes. It’s water which can freeze and so expand and break the pipe or heat in the water you don’t want to loose.
For an exterior pipe I’d say use cheap foam trap/tube then wrap it with aluminum tape to protect the foam from sun elements degradation!

Ok so you just wrap it around the outside of the pipe 0:50
    Rubber pipe sticks 2:20
R value. The higher the R value, the better it is at keeping the temp 2:50

The problem with the foam is that the condensation is trapped inside the foam, runs to the lowest point and drips there.

    • @JohnDoe-ld8nr

The point of the foam is to prevent condensation from happening.

I’d say this is a bit of a poor video. They didn’t mention things like the foam is the least expensive, the rubber can bend and conform for different areas. The fiberglass is very messy, has to be sealed from shedding if in an area you don’t want to breath that stuff.
