    Firstly what a beautiful voice you have, especially your mix - it is gorgeous, amazing! Secondly, I have listened to lots of videos amour mix voice and this is equal to the best and clearest explanation. Especially the point about picking a single note and singing it in full chest, full head, and then mix. That is gold! Thanks so much 🙏🙏🙏

    Hi. Thanks so much for your video....i found it very helpful as I have recently been straining my voice trying to sing using my chest voice as much as possible. Can you tell me when are we meant to sing in our mixed voice? Also, do you have any videos on how to sing in your mixed voice?
    Thanks so much!

      @worshipvocalist  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Heidi! Ideally we want to be in our mix voice pretty much ALL the time in our songs! I teach this extensively in my "Discover Your Voice" and "Master Your Voice" courses on www.theworshipvocalist.com-there's no "quick" route to just suddenly sing in your mix voice-it takes weeks and months of exercising the voice using specific vocal exercises designed to develop a mix. I would encourage you to check out the courses!

    I have always 'belted' in a super high pushed up chest voice (yikes!), and I'm still learning how to mix. My main problem is my voice keeps flipping harshly from chest voice to mix voice. I can only seem to mix when it's higher. Any advice?

    • @worshipvocalist
      @worshipvocalist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It's important to learn to mix in our lower range as well, otherwise there will always be a break-as you're experiencing. Check out my Discover Your Voice course to learn these techniques!

    What are your thoughts on raising the soft palate when we sing? Also, should I be able to plug my nose and still sing in mix?

    • @worshipvocalist
      @worshipvocalist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Raising the soft palate takes us into more of a head-voice-dominant, classical tone, so if you’re aiming for a contemporary sound, best to keep the soft palate lowered. As for plugging the nose, for a bright contemporary-sounding mix voice, we want to be engaging pharyngeal resonance, and plugging the nose doesn’t allow for that.

    I just watched your video with the high notes and I want to ask you if I try the pure head voice mam exercise if you had to guess without hearing me after how many days in row do you think I should be able to go see small progress like to be able to go a note higher? And also when I start to strain should I stop or keep going a note or two more? Thank you.

    • @worshipvocalist
      @worshipvocalist  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey George! Don’t measure your progress (range increase, etc) until at least several weeks or months has gone by. And stop as soon as you feel strain!

  • @Suganap

    Hi! I love your videos.One thing is not clear you always use your mix voice?Or in the lawer register you use your chest voice?

    • @worshipvocalist
      @worshipvocalist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ideally we want to always be singing in a mix-in our lower range it will be more chest-voice-dominant and in the high range it will be more head-voice-dominant, but always in a mix.

  • @ambershipley1499
    @ambershipley1499 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    hey, these are so helpful!! thank you. i had a question. i can't seem to find my mix voice, and my voice gets tired when i try it. i am a worship vocalist and my leader is trying to get me to do songs that i can't use mixed or chest. also my voice is super super breathy, and it's not good haha. so all the highs of the song are lost because i can't use power in my head voice. i would love some advice.

    I’m in choir and I have a concert in a few days there is a song where I have a pretty high note and I always panic when I get to it how do I keep my throat and body relaxed and not tense up every time?😬

    • @worshipvocalist
      @worshipvocalist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hey! A few things - make sure you do a good vocal warmup that warms up those high notes before you sing, and if you're not already, start doing vocal exercises to help strength and free up your high range (check out my lessons @ www.theworshipvocalist.com). A little trick you can do in your practice time is to bend over (your whole upper body!) as you go to the high note - it helps "trick" the brain into thinking it's lower, so that we don't tense up!

      The Worship Vocalist thank you so much for your help you are amazing!!! I did really good at the concert and now I have to practice for the National anthem and I will sure be using this trick! Thank you

    You mention "find your key". I have also heard there is a "congregational singing key" that is most comfortable for the majority of people, and you should aim to pick a key that works for that...meaning requiring, perhaps, a greater range yourself to make that happen. I know people who have higher voices tend to lead in higher keys and then much of the congregation is left out as they can't hit the notes. This "group key" says that high notes shouldn't be hovering around high D or E for too much of a song. You have mentioned recommended keys in several videos, and they make high notes somewhat lower than that (good!) but just wondering your comments regarding this "group singing key" vs what may suit the vocalist best?

    • @worshipvocalist
      @worshipvocalist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Andrea! From my perspective-when the leader can lead confidently in a key that is right for their voice, that’s the best choice for a congregation. The leader is more relaxed and at ease, which puts the congregation more at ease. Plus-the people in the congregation have ranges that vary widely, so there’s no possible way to choose a key that’s perfect for everyone. They can sing on par with the leader, or an octave down, an octave up, or harmony. That being said-there are still many things to think about when choosing a key, and I explore it in a lot more depth here: theworshipvocalist.com/how-to-choose-song-key/ - so I encourage you to check it out!

    • @worshipvocalist
      @worshipvocalist  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Penny! Sorry for the delayed reply! The lower notes are more grounded in chest voice, but with pharyngeal mixed in, and the higher notes are released in head voice but with pharyngeal mixed in.

    When you sing with a low larynx sound, is that also a mix or is it only that nasal, front of the face mask type sound that is classified as a mix voice?

    • @worshipvocalist
      @worshipvocalist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Robynne! Yes, a lowered larynx is another way to access our mix voice. I teach this in my “Master Your Voice” course-how we can use different coordinations/resonance to find and hone in on our mix voice.

    Is it normal for the veins to pop out while singing in your mixed voice because when I do it it doesn’t hurt when I’m singing in my mixed but i noticed my veins pop out. So if my veins pop out and it doesn’t hurt is it normal ?

    • @worshipvocalist
      @worshipvocalist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Be cautious with that, because we definitely don’t want the veins popping out very much. But if it doesn’t hurt at all, then that’s a good sign that it’s probably not doing damage!
