Cheees mate. Inspired by your bad self of course. 😀 I’ll see if I can squeeze another set out by the end of the month although Criterion recommendations are ever green.

Hi Chris - I thoroughly enjoyed Hedwig and the Angry Inch (did not see the other ones). For me, the films of Rainer Werner Fassbinder are full of great character studies such as The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant.

Fassbinder is a fabulous suggestion. I had not considered him for this video (as they are all Arrow releases in my collection) but his characters are so multi layered. Effi Briest, Maria Braun, Lola. Ali - the list goes on and on. A brilliant teller of stories through character.
Glad to hear Hedwig resonates with someone else. 😀

I just rewatched both Certain Women and First Cow the other week after seeing Killers of the Flower Moon. Both great movies, the Gladstone/Stewart segment is the most compelling but it all works well. And First Cow is just excellent. Enjoyed Hedwig too, I only caught up with it a few years ago but thought it came across as very bold and fresh considering it was actually released in 2001.

Bold and fresh is a great way to describe Hedwig. I don’t know what I was expecting but it feels like a film made yesterday, never mind how long ago it was conceived. Reinhardt will always be a film maker I’ll be eager to watch. Great to see Lily Gladstone’s career progressing to greater things. Thanks as always 😀

Indeed, why not you?! Lovely fresh approach to the recommendations video. I am a big fan of character studies. Farewell Amor, is one I’m very curious to explore. I’m intrigued by all of the titles shared, as I haven’t watched any of them yet. Thank you for this one.

      Thank you 😀
Always trying to make something that gets my brain going. Farewell Anor is a film I’ve only ever heard one other talk about and they enjoyed it so hoping it works for others. Still available on MUBi in the Uk I believe.

Wonderful recommendations as usual! Certain Women is a film that didn't hit me until some time afterwards when I just couldn't stop thinking about it. Incredibly interesting. I've been really curious to check out DIm Sum for a while so glad to hear it's well worth a watch!

I had an identical process with Certain Women. I think I only gave it 3 stars on Letterboxd when I was watching it but like you, it wouldn’t leave my head for days afterwards. There was a connection creating between my brain and the world she created. Kristen Stewart is an actor who whose performances work on me in a similar way. Hope Dim Sum finds you in a good place some day 😀

Great recommendations Chris. I have seen Certain Women but the only part I remember well is the final story which may be my favorite Reichart. I’m looking forward to her latest with Michelle Williams. The other one I have seen is La Cienga which I don’t remember too well either. The little grey cells are in retreat. I did like Zama, also the novel it is based on. The other films often stream on the Criterion Channel. After your comments I will check them out.

Thanks Roger. Kelly Reinhardt is a director that seems to resonate with similarly minded cinephiles. Her film making has a certain quality that puts me at ease, even when the action on the screen is not as relaxed. I’d love a release of Zama in the collection but The Headless Woman is really the one that I think people should see out. A very interesting film maker.

Excellent video of recommendations that I’m not familiar with. Modern films? Films about families ? Criterion collection? What are these things?

I’ll catch you up. Modern films are movies made in a year that starts with a 2. Blinding stuff that only millennials know about.. usually
