Poukai | Ngāti Hikairoa celebrate their new wharekai opening with Kīngi Tūheitia 2019

It's the 12 of March 2019 and the Māori king opens Ngāti Hikairo's new $1.2 million dinning hall, named 'Te Maru o Hikairo'
Kīngi Tūheitia is welcomed to Waipapa Marae for the annual poukai at Kawhia
The king and Waikato made their way to open the new wharekai
The karakia was led by the Kīngitanga's Rāhui Papa at the tā i te kawa (building opening) ceremony followed by Ngāti Raukawa's Paraone Glyone
The opening was concluded with the Pai Mārire karakia lead by Taonui Campbell of Ngāti Maniapoto
Then attention turned to the marae ātea for whaikōrero where the connection between Ngāti Hikairo and the Kīngitanga was reaffirmed with acknowledgement of the passing of Manawa Clarkson, the King’s youngest sister
