Brother Jeffrey, Alhamdulillah you are a true Muslim leader. We need more people like you. May Allah SWT richly reward you for your love and dedication to Him.
This is one of the most honest speeches that I heard. It's unfortunate that all if his points are correct. I honestly can relate to the things that he talked about. It's my believe that young Muslims should raise up and lead a intellectual revolution. The divide among the Muslim community is unbelievable. Let's us unite and address these issues. Peace to everyone may Allah guide us to the right path.
Unfortunately in many communities religion have always been used as tools for some selfish people who want to impose their desires on others. I do appreciate an honest and emotional speech. As a person who was born in Muslim family and later believed in Islam by my own research I sense every world of this speech.
SubhanAllah.. Same here But everyone has his part of responsibility.. when we decide to assume ours, Allah awj is always there for us for إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّى يُغَيِّرُوا مَا بِأَنْفُسِهِمْ
He makes so much sense. Islam is above culture. and Islam encourages intellectual enquiry - but culturally we don't question, and do not seek answers. I am born muslim, but I find people who convert have more knowledge than people born into the religion.
He seems like a nice brother, but he is not knowledgeable in terms of deen. However, it depends on what you define as culture. Some people try to pass off actual Islamic rulings, recommendations and prohibitions as culture as well.

first time I arrived in Europe, as an Indonesian, I felt lonely. I missed to be in a mosque a lot. I was hungry of Islam knowladge back then, wanted to pray in a mosque and just sitting there for peace but I couldnt. I remember I cried everytime I watched an Indonesian movie where there were people go to a mosque, sit, listen to adhan. I really missed it. My house is next to a turkish mosque but the prayer is only for men. I barely see women coming there for prayer. I am too afraid to go inside.
Sister, please go and ask. I live in the US and all masjid here has a section for women and I see women come to pray during the day and in Jumuah. You will see more women in the masjid during Ramadan.
Just go in. I’m Turkish and people in there will love to see you there and they will try to make you as happy as they can do so, you can pray. Because mosques belong to all of us not only one group our groups. Do not hesitate at all

JazakAllah. The best ever speech I ever heard. Professor Lang's speech is an eye opener for all those who are born Muslims. We must address these issues very seriously otherwise we all will be accountable.
He is not knowledgeable but he is just a brother stating his genuine idea. I have met him in person but the only thing I would say is that there is some places where his emotions are getting the better.
@@holdshiftt2run308try what? i am not talking about the speaker. You dont want to learn. That is your choice. You are in the state of Dunning Krugger effect.
Alhamdulillah! Good to hear from someone who has keenly observed and pinpointed many of the problems facing the present day Muslim world. We fully agree with Dr. Lang's analysis of the concurrent situation with our children. The practical suggestions he is making to overcome the situation is definitely worth trying. May Allah bless Dr. Lang, increase his knowledge and wisdom, and be his Guide all along. Aameen.
Brother Jeff that was excellent, may Allah Bless you and your family, may He enhance you with further wisdom and strength to serve mankind .. JazakAllah
He sounds so clearly frustrated to have to argue about the culture that's encompassed the common muslims when we could be doing more important things, like researching the interpretations and ideologies of Islam. I relate to these people he is speaking up for. Islam is blessed to have a credible man like him to stand up there and talk about the things no one else wants to talk about. Indeed the converts have shamed us when we fail to practice the true teachings of Allah, and they become the more knowledgeable, more curious and more embracing of "our" religion.
What do you mean by "ideologies?" Islamic articles of Iman and aqeedah based on the kalam of Allah and the authentic Sunan ARE our ideology. Interpretations of the dunya happen on the basis of the shariah of Allah and nor the other way around. Yes, we have opinions in fiqh, but that is not the same as having opinions on set rulings.
@@holdshiftt2run308 I think the sister has a point. Most of the Muslims today are more soaked in to the dunya where the reverts to Islam are more focused on Islam. Surely she didn't mean to discredit Islam. I get what she is saying. We should be more focused on reawakening ourselves and knowing who and what we are.
@@holdshiftt2run308 You just said nothing.. You proved her point.. You know clearly that there are contentions about the Kalam of the Rasoul and Allah swt unless you're talking about the Quran. Obviously there's disagreements about what is Sahih 😂 So why even say that
Now is 2021 and in my country Alhamdulillah woman hv place in mosque and even our President is muslim women., i believed and hope tht now this issue hv been corrected as we can see many and many women converted to islam grow in western contry...thank you to you Sir🙏
Sadly he is telling the truth. His speech is almost bringing me to tear I was born and raised a muslim but honestly this problem exist. People forget the message of prophet Mohammad(pbuh), he said he was sent to the universe both humans and jinns. There is actually a racial group of muslims that like to treat every other racial group muslims like trash muslims and look down on the rest of muslims. MY ADVICE: TO all reverts or converts and every other muslims that feels like they're being pushed out; know that Islam cannot be monopolized! and do not let no one discourage you or intimidate you. People of every color and every race became part of Islam during the time of the prophet. Do your own research online libraries find islamic groups online connect with nice muslims groups on social media etc...Stay strong 💪🏻💪🏾 to get to the real paradise with our maker. ❤❤❤
Nevermind 53, I'm 67 and finally understanding , perhaps why the door was shut upon the mother and daughter etc. Shaytaan is ever present when it comes to the nafs . We have to keep our hearts pure of distractions- as far as possible, lest the door of fitna be opened. As for the academicians, and I'm one myself (South African female), you do us proud alhamdullilah, however it is a side issue compared to our purpose and destination
Thank you for this. I am a Muslim Woman by birth, and a Immigrant in UK.. in Mecca I was free to be in the Haram. I have not been given that freedom in the Masjids of UK. May our children change that. Sorry we could not.
_it is not only happening in America! If you travel you'll see it's happening all over the world! Which is unfortunate_ :) _The question is: How can we fix it?!_
38:05 Islam gives the most freedom of speech. You have to question everything with logic. And the answers are there if you look deep enough. I agree 100% with brother Jeffery, May Allah SWT reward him and wake up our community towards the problems he is discussing here. Z Jazak Allah khairan.
I see in Sheikh Yasir Qadhi the same sentiment and notion Mister Lang experienced all these years prior, truly his lessons and speech have taken root in the hearts of (some) of our scholars, Elhamdulilah. May Allah never leave shame us by taking away critical reasoning and sound guidance from our minds, truly intelligence and critical thinking was favoured and encouraged in the early days of Islam. Our mother Aisha RA would ask striking, blunt questions at times when the Prophet Muhammad SAW narrated something regarding Islam, always willing to communicate and answer the questions that came forth. The only reason they weren't afraid to ask these blunt, probing but critical questions is BECAUSE the Prophet Muhammad SAW had a demeanor of calm and trust, welcoming these questions to further educate this Ummah. Ya Allah, thank you for all that you've given us!
I would like to say that treatment of women as 2nd or 3rd person is there in our Arabic countries, but has nothing to do with Islam but by the male nature of understanding in our communities.
@@mba6164 He was born from Christian family. Letter he become atheist because he can't find satisfaction about religions. So much questions without answer. Until he found Islam Alhamdulilah. You can find about his religious journey in another videos.
As a Malaysian student living in Melbourne for 14 years, a lot of these is so true concerning our migrant brothers & sisters, too insular, too much cultural baggage. Is is their fault? Maybe partly, let's face it a lot of economic migrants & not the most enlightened intellectually. When mosques are identified by the "nation" that builds it , you can see how welcome the sisters feel.
May Allah SWT forgive those men who chase the women away from the Masjid SubhaanAllah. May Allah SWT guide those revert women back to Islam Allahu Akbar
I live in Cape Town and we face the same issue where dinosaurs are more focused on tradition and culture rather than focus on the tawgheed of the religion. Today we are a laughing stock with kur separate days and arguing about the days of Eid. Our leaders have taken us backwards and our community are happy to engage in this backwardness. The small things become big things. May Allah bless this speaker amd spread the message. Ameen
Love and respect for dr Lang for drawing attention to the pertinent issue of winning children back to their faith to spread the message of Allah the Lord of all
With great respect to the speaker, and speaking as a revert of these past few years, I can share an answer of sorts. The conflict of a developing Islam is that between understanding what the individual cultivates in his Heart versus what that individual is advised Islam is by the people around them. Since professing Shahada I have sought out numerous sources and resources seeking camaraderie and community. As a result I get regular solicitations for goods and services. Further, presentations such as this one are riddled with Have-to-s, Got-to-s and judgements. Experts in Islam are very long on the Whats and very limited on the Hows. Start pressing about the singular nature of the individual's daily struggle within their own heart and conversation sorta dries up. Should Islam degrade-- may God determine otherwise--- it will proceed from men who approach the Word of God seeking for what they can Get rather than what they can Contribute.
@@hughmcbeath5463 I would prefer to think that he lived for us. I'm interested in what he taught, not his suffering or death. You're throwing the prophet out with the bath water. It's his life that mattered, his message. Why focus on his supposed gruesome death?
His point: that we are now in the Mecca phase, startled me that-in a micro scale of a community- as a mom I take the wrong approach in educating my kids about Islam..
Great lecture. The gentleman in the panel and the questions, on the other hand, speak volumes about the sad state of the immigrant-based Muslim institutions and mosques. Very hard to change. I recommend looking at modern enlightened scholars such as the late Dr. Mohamed Shahrour (RIP).
I totally agree with professor Jeffry proposal to master the modern research techniques before entering into any field in Islamic studies that can be in higher educational
The sad part is the panel straightaway disagreed with his idea of working out to include new reverts and newer generations to the community by having a new gathering or so. I do agree it might create divide but the need for divide should be rectified. They did exactly what he was referring in his talks. He is being shot down immediately without a second thought. I guess this is same all over the world. Culture and pride over their lineage (Muslim lineage) over the new reverts. I guess he just wanted the newer generations to be included, even the fact the speaker who called him felt a bit irritated(maybe) by his topic title. Even the male counterpart explaining as if we expect Angels in mosques? Really reverts expect angels? They have stronger understanding and more rational thoughts than most of the Muslims altogether. Allahu Alam. May Allah make our new brothers and sisters in Islam to follow through their hardships and ease in their understanding and practicing of Islam.
I'd like to offer my two cents: The blonde hair thing is only an inadvertent reaction from a person who is of a community that is taught by the west that they are inferior to them. So when a person with blonde hair and blue eyes, a person of "superior race" converts to Islam, (revert is the correct term here but I digress) it validates their religion and they are overjoyed. Brown men need to be taught that Allah created them equal to all the men he created and this is, unfortunately, easier said than done. I am a Turkish man and it pains me to see people showing so much pathetic affection to westerners -"expats"- when they speak broken Turkish for the very same reason but they are quick to dismiss any middle eastern trying to communicate with them. This is called inferiority complex. Generally speaking, reverts appreciate the religion of Allah better than the ones that are born into Muslim societies, that's what I observe anyway. Mr. Lang here is trying to give something back to the Muslim community, not just the Muslim community in the US, we as all the Muslims are one nation after all, as he appreciates how Allah has blessed him with Islam better than your average Muslim who is born into a Muslim family. May Allah be pleased with him and all the reverts and the rest of the Muslims. There is also the "pride" of born-into-Muslim-family Muslims that has no basis in the actual religion. The lady gave the perfect answer to the man who tried to dismiss him as "just" a convert by saying the companions were all converts and if that man had a heart the would have broken down in tears in that instant and asked forgiveness and guidance from Allah as well as asking the lady's forgiveness. I have been trying to initiate some thinking into the minds of my family and friends who are also Muslims but so far they would not relinquish the defence of what they had seen from the ones before them and start actually reading what Allah has revealed for us all. Change is difficult. It is also easier for people to take what has been preached to them by people whom they see as authorities at face value, rather than actually opening the Qur'an and trying to find what those people were preaching to them. The primary source of the religion is the Qur'an and not some guy unless the guy is not some guy but he is the prophet Muhammad PBUH. After saying all these there is the fact that women have a more domestic role in the society of Islam compared to men and this is a take it or leave it situation and it is not easy for people who had been raised by modern western values to accept. But things like slamming doors on women's faces are pure misogyny and Islam has no place for that. Arabs need to understand that the religion of Islam is not theirs and theirs alone. What some of them are doing is awfully similar to what jews have been doing and that cannot ever be good. Allah knows the best.
What a wonderfull anylasis of our lazy community which has stopped to struggle hard.please wake up other wise get trampled over.even jannat is not free. May Allah bless us all.
Go on brother ... this best lecture on arrogant muslim so call "ameer/leader" who are misusing .... Till now. I wish this video played on the before jummah-prayer often in every mosque...we need to remind each other that no-one own Islam... it is for everyone....
Wow...a very interesting explanation, professor. I can feel his concern about the fading quality of the next generation of Islam in America. On the other hand, I understand how hard the struggle of the Islamic missionaries in the midst of the massive onslaught of a hedonistic and liberal lifestyles there. I pray for the professors and Islamic missionaries there, may they always be given fortitude and patience in carrying out their sacred duties there. Greetings from Indonesia 🙏
Unfortunate reality everywhere not only in America! It's incredible how he included himself in the community despite everything! Yes we should go back to the source. Extremism has no place in Islam! The prophet saw was so tolerant and wise. Beautiful event... thanks for sharing!!
So if someone disagreed with the prophet, would he smile and agree to disagree? If someone criticises the prophet now, if I said he is sex obsessed, would you tolerate that?
I’m a born Muslim and what Dr Lang says resonates with me far more than what I hear from many religious leaders who to me are trying to apply their small minded thinking and create artificial limits and constraints. Islam was never meant to be difficult or a burden. Doing the right thing should be easy. If it isn’t, it’s worth questioning why we are having trouble.
You are so right. I made the same observations." God hasn't given you this book so that you will be miserable". There are too many unhappy Muslims who are working night & day just to stay out of hell. People have not grasped that Allah is Al Rahman Al Rachiem. and that God isn't sitting around waiting for us to make a mistake so he can punish us.
Jeff has hit the core issue that has put our younger generation at a very high risk. Islamic Center is Iconic for 2 decades where women and men pray together with a divider for physical separation. He is right, that Muslim community is in need to weed out the culture out of the religion. May Allah help Jeff’s voice take traction in the communities to save the future of our next generation to come.
That is the problem of many born muslims today. They remain following ancient or outdated paradigms. But we know in Islam, women have the right to go to the mosques. They have space alloted for them to worship, to talk and mingle with other women believers.

I don’t know how they do it in America, but in Germany they usually do it that way. You have the Arabic intro with the ayat and the Hadith. Then the main part in Turkish first, because it’s a Turkish mosque and then again in German so that hopefully everyone could understand.
In my thinking all problems started in one place whereby we have taken the first priority in the secular education than religious education for our childrens. Only way to win in this we have to change that....

Yeah. People are so far blind following what these past scholars are saying. I have been told, "We have to follow X scholar! We have to do this! We have to do that!" Even worse when the scholars' work stands contradictory to the Qur'an for the most part (i.e. Hadith, Sira)

No one can change that even if you all join this evil group dajjals path. Goodluck!
Long but worth watching in full. Lang speaks frankly about the mistreatment of women, people of colour and reverts. He points out this is not what Islam teaches and there is a need to draw a distinction between religious practices and cultural practices. His concerns about the failure to answer the questions of those seeking knowledge will resonate with all who were taught Islam parrot fashion. Today, technology has opened up doors to acquire the relevant knowledge. May Allah SWT guide us, as he guided the Prophet PBUH, to follow what Lang describes as 'the Mecca Plan'.
I love Brother Jeffrey Lang i hope he reached he's goal to change the mentality of those who mingled culture and Islam to create distance All Muslims are equal and the reverts are in my opinion better than who born in a muslimhouseholds
Aslm lecture so true and was recorded in 1980s and now the year 2021...the system we live in really take God out of equation esp in schools..Allah protect our umma
I think you're missing the point of what he's saying. It's basically that some things are not allowed to be questioned sometimes, while the whole purpose of previous islamic law interpreters would go back and forth finding answers to questions and on whether some hadiths and interpretations were right. Back 200 years ago our ancestors practiced the Sufi way and it's not the same as today. Back in the prophet's time, the deen was very different, as the prophet was the kindest to everyone with no discrimination, yet people wanna discriminate in the prophet's name or in God's name. So this is why muslims like myself, like to question and do things much more tolerantly and nicely. In the end nobody gets anything right, that's why we say "الله اعلم"
Honest pulsation why are they violent I've witnessed 😳this my wife who is old got a door 🚪🤔 shuved in her face for no reason Yes religion of peace ✌🙏 may you know Lord Jesus 🙏
What is sad is that the ones making the most sense (Jeffrey Lang, Mohamed Asad, Khaled abou al fadl) are the older Muslims. Where are the younger Muslims?
It is the duty of immigrant muslim to interact with converts and dont let them feel that they are left out.on the other hand converts should make it their duty that they should attend prayers no matter if someone don't intermingle with them culturally.Dr Lang is right that culture play an important role in it.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “ Make matters easy and do not make them difficult. Be bearers of good tidings and do not cause others to hate you.” I totally agree with the professor. By the way, this issue is not only a serious problem in America but also in Muslim majority countries, where religion and culture are so intertwined, that many young people with questioning minds turn away from religion. Many end up deists, agnostics or atheists. The best scenario can be they stay in Islam, try to be a good person in moral conduct, but stay away from certain practices in Islam, stay away from the majority of Muslim people, stay away from their cultural practices and adopt another lifestyle. In fact, when pure Quranic knowledge and Hadith knowledge is presented (and the context of the teaching is also accurately given), many people with questioning minds can also become strong believers. Therefore, identifying and spreading the true teachings and differentiating the cultural perspectives on certain issues are very important. We should not make any "halal" forbidden, and we should not make a cultural practice a part of the belief without scholarly approval. We should investigate controversial topics within the society according to what is commanded in Islam, what is encouraged in Islam, what is Islam neutral about, what Islam disapproves and what Islam strictly forbids. Thank you for the speech and I hope we succeed in identifying and spreading the true stance of Islam in every aspect. Peace from Istanbul, Turkey.
The most and best tribute to pay to Pr. Jeffrey Lang is to take his words to deep thinking and put it into practice ... if we care about our children and their destiny. What's more important than our children ?

JazakAllah. The best ever speech I ever heard. Professor Lang's speech is an eye opener for all those who are born Muslims. We must address these issues very seriously otherwise we all will be accountable.
He is a Muslim full of knowledge, true Muslim...Islam is the religion of knowledge...Allahuakbar.
He is not knowledgeable but he is just a brother stating his genuine idea. I have met him in person but the only thing I would say is that there is some places where his emotions are getting the better.

We fully agree with Dr. Lang's analysis of the concurrent situation with our children. The practical suggestions he is making to overcome the situation is definitely worth trying. OMG! Brother Jeff it is so true our kids are facing a lot of problem to voice. Each and every word you are saying it true.
With all respect to your ideology why do ☪️🕌🕋 do not respect others 😕
What he is talking about is a Evil Dajjal plan what you and many cant see but Alhmdulilah many do see it and dismiss its evil plans.

@@holdshiftt2run308 You just said nothing.. You proved her point.. You know clearly that there are contentions about the Kalam of the Rasoul and Allah swt unless you're talking about the Quran. Obviously there's disagreements about what is Sahih 😂 So why even say that

What a great lecturer! Masha Allah he is so right 💚💚💚💚 May Allah grants us understanding.

Thank you for this. I am a Muslim Woman by birth, and a Immigrant in UK.. in Mecca I was free to be in the Haram. I have not been given that freedom in the Masjids of UK. May our children change that. Sorry we could not.

38:05 Islam gives the most freedom of speech. You have to question everything with logic. And the answers are there if you look deep enough. I agree 100% with brother Jeffery, May Allah SWT reward him and wake up our community towards the problems he is discussing here. Z
Jazak Allah khairan.
But unfortunately like brother stated here, many of our leaders are ignorant in this regard.
You Said The Truth Sir, And The Words you Say Is From Your Heart. I Am With You, Go Ahead Sir. Allah May Help Us.
I would like to say that treatment of women as 2nd or 3rd person is there in our Arabic countries, but has nothing to do with Islam but by the male nature of understanding in our communities.
he is making a statement here ….. a deep and important one

As a Malaysian student living in Melbourne for 14 years, a lot of these is so true concerning our migrant brothers & sisters, too insular, too much cultural baggage. Is is their fault? Maybe partly, let's face it a lot of economic migrants & not the most enlightened intellectually. Ameen
Thanks for this wonderful lecture.
سبحان الله ..يدخل النًاس في الإسلام في بلاد الغرب أفواجا ... الحمد لله

This touched me. I'm a Canadian white European convert/revert. We exist, Islam is for us too! Please, think of us.
Christ died for me you to
@@hughmcbeath5463 I would prefer to think that he lived for us. I'm interested in what he taught, not his suffering or death. You're throwing the prophet out with the bath water. It's his life that mattered, his message. Why focus on his supposed gruesome death?
His ikhlas should be appreciated... Allah help
Alhamdulillah... Big fan of Professor Jeffrey Lang
@Humanica this is the best I could do as I don't stay in his country (USA). I can try changing the outlook of the people in my locality.
I'd like to offer my two cents:
The blonde hair thing is only an inadvertent reaction from a person who is of a community that is taught by the west that they are inferior to them.
Well put

Wow...a very interesting explanation, professor. I can feel his concern about the fading quality of the next generation of Islam in America. On the other hand, I understand how hard the struggle of the Islamic missionaries in the midst of the massive onslaught of a hedonistic and liberal lifestyles there. I pray for the professors and Islamic missionaries there, may they always be given fortitude and patience in carrying out their sacred duties there. Greetings from Indonesia 🙏
Unfortunately it’s true... but no one seems to talk about it openly...

Simply impressive.
Islamic Center of Toledo in Ohio has been practicing to pray the way it is practice in Medina.

That is the problem of many born muslims today. They remain following ancient or outdated paradigms. But we know in Islam, women have the right to go to the mosques. They have space alloted for them to worship, to talk and mingle with other women believers.

Very eye opening speech. Very honest and objective.
First change to begin is to start reading quran as though you dont know what it says then you start to have critical thinking .most dont know what Quran is saying
Yeah. People are so far blind following what these past scholars are saying. I have been told, "We have to follow X scholar! We have to do this! We have to do that!" Even worse when the scholars' work stands contradictory to the Qur'an for the most part (i.e. Hadith, Sira)

I love Brother Jeffrey Lang i hope he reached he's goal to change the mentality of those who mingled culture and Islam to create distance
All Muslims are equal and the reverts are in my opinion better than who born in a muslimhouseholds

thank you sir,i will try my best to carry the pride of Islam....,rain or shine even high and low....,😓😢
Honest pulsation why are they violent I've witnessed 😳this my wife who is old got a door 🚪🤔 shuved in her face for no reason

What is sad is that the ones making the most sense (Jeffrey Lang, Mohamed Asad, Khaled abou al fadl) are the older Muslims. Where are the younger Muslims?
Masha Allah..... Alhamdulillah
Be bearers of good tidings and do not cause others to hate you.”
I totally agree with the professor.
The modern Muslim child is more exposed to new and better ideas than what Islam can offer eg. subjugation of women in Islamic teaching.
Such a humble sincere person Jeffrey is. Allahu Akbar. Alhamdulillaah
