Nice Tanto! I jest... to make a point about how it is interesting that a perfected functional blade form(and perfected handle form)... is universal. Very nice job! You made a beautiful blade that is better than anything that can be mass produced.
One question: 5:12 - that black thing that you melted down into the zig-zag ornament - what is that? Black plastic rod? It have to be something that will stay in place after it concentrate back again, and something that is resistant for all external conditions and mechanical stimuli... No idea what may it be.
Incredible! What stunning piece! What solutions did you use for the leather prep and treatment? I'm trying to learn how to work with leather and make my own sheaths. Thank you!
When the hot Blade comes in contact with the water - while forging-, it evaporates. It is like a little "explosion" and blows the tinder off the surface of the blade . Tinder is very hard, and you use this technik to smoothen and clean the surface of the workpiece for the further operational steps.
Not to discredit your work but it's a puuko you've made not a lang seax I live in Denmark and I have never seen a lang seax like that but it is still a beatifull piece of craftsmanship!.
I bet you haven't seen puukkos in Denmark either. :) Puukko is a finnish knife. In Scandinavia it's called a knifr or sax. A knifr is carried vertical on the belt and has a blade around 7-10 cm, a sax is a big knife or dagger carried vertical. This is definetly a traditional scandisax.
@Ju Ju Of course he isn't right. The anglosaxian seax and the norse sax predates the puukko by centuries. Broken back (bowie style) seaxes, found almost exclusively in UK and Ireland, are rare. The norse sax has either a leaf tip blade or a straight back. The shape of this blade is similar to norwegian viking langsaxes from the 7-8th century.
The Anglosaxon saex had the broken back. wich wa also found in allemannic regions. most of the continental germanic tribes east of the Rhine hat pointy tips like the one u did. The once in sweden and denmark and the baltic coast of germany were mostly with a straight back and only one sharp side
Very impressive artwork. Is there a reason you trimmed & burnished the edge before adding the top & bottom brass plate wrap? Couldn't you have sanded it all flush before adding the loops & rings? It's awesome either way but I'm curious since I might build something similar one day. Thanks.
What a fantastic video! I've been down the TH-cam blacksmith rabbit hole but this is one of the better videos i've seen.
After watching dozens of knife making videos, this one has REALLY got my interested in working leather. Thank you for uploading

Hey man, are you still making knives? Didn't see a video in ages. Very good job btw.
Beautiful
It looks authentic, good job.
Perfect!
Handle measures please ?
Why did he put water on the anvil when he was hammering the blade?

AWESOME!!
Cool handle! Are you willing to share it's dimensions?
I HATE HAND SANDING!!,,BUT IT MEANS U R VERY CLOSE TO FINISHING. GOOD WORK
What you made was so manly, the pink hair clip in 7:24 is thereby made manly.
It might even be lucky!
Прекрасная работа. Уважение Мастеру.

Superb!
MUITO BOM , PARABENS !
Would this have been a general purpose knife back in it's day? Great video thanks for sharing
Yeah pretty much. (for hunting or just every day tasks, although it could be used as a sidearm) Thanks!
Not a seax though they have the taper on the spine of the knife but a very good quality knife in all.
Pěkná práce, jakou ocel jsi použil?
what for 4 hours tempering? isn't to much?
That is gorgeous, i LOVE how you did the handle and sheath! If I may ask, what was that you dripped into the handle?
ever thought of going on that show "forged in fire"
good job
where do you get your leather?
How much
Молодец красивая работа.
I know it doesn,t have to have a broken back, but it seems to me that you have sharpened the wrong edge.
