Thanks for this video . I'm a master data analyst and my team does have the data stewardship duties everyday. Is a data steward/master data analyst a good career option or should I move towards a more technical role. I have ETL background but now working more as a functional/business consultant....
Hi Palash, I think that there is a need for both, technical and business. So it depends what you like doing more.
For the business side, in general an organization prefers to recruit someone internally and train them because they already have a lot of that business knowledge, context, and relationships. But then again, you also have the advantage of knowing the technical side so you could handle both areas which is not too common. You’re in a good place to choose which one you like the most.

Hey George, What do you consider are the main differences between Master Data Analysis and Master Data Stewart?
Hi Elizabeth,
It depends. The way I look at it, there shouldn’t be much of a difference. Sometimes the organization picks the Data Steward title to emphasize the importance of data governance and data stewardship, but the roles should be about the same.
I’ve seen an instance where the master data analyst was similar to a data analyst/data scientist and the master data steward was more focused on ensuring data governance processes and policies are followed for the data they stewarded.
So it depends on that job description if those roles are synonyms or not.

Our country offers a free course online for data stewardship and you'll get a certificate after finishing it. I am interested in learning this but it seems like only a few people are. Do you think it's a good course to learn if Im planning to switch careers? What's the career path for a data steward? Thanks!
I’m sorry, but I don’t know anything about that course so I wouldn’t know if it’s good or not. If this is something that you want to do, you should pursue your goal.
I applied for Data Scientist sponsored by the Government but I withdrew and chose Data steward.
What is your advice?
I think that, if you can, you should go for whatever you enjoy doing. After all, we spend at least 8 hours at work every day, so might as well choose something that we enjoy doing (if possible).
