I got my first two wheel recumbent back in 91. The first thing my Mom said when she saw it. "Your Not riding that until you put a flag on it" So I did. I am looking for a trike now, but I want a Delta, I like handle bars.
I rode two mountain passes in the alps last summer in a 60lb velomobile loaded for touring. Hit gradients up to 20%. Only limitation was tire grip on the pavement when it was wet from rain. Just gear things correctly and the majority of folks will do just fine without e-assist. For those with physical limitations, assist is very helpful, but not everyone wants or needs the help or the range limitations that come with a battery.

She will change her mind about e assist being a novelty when she hits her 1st steep hill.
