I set up my jeep with the Rockhard bumper. It was a really easy DIY and very easy to hook up a tow bar. I selected the Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain bar. Using the Brake Buddy for braking. Great setup. Nothing is easier to tow than a Wrangler.
Hey Russos, we met while getting on the bus to the parking lot at the Overland East Expo. I do remember watching this video when we first bought our RV. Based on this video and your recommendation, we bought the ReadyBrute Elite and it has worked perfectly over the last year. We love the inertia driven braking system and the brake away system is also simple to hook up. Starting off not knowing anything about RVs and towing, your videos provided us with knowledge and more importantly courage to tackle the RV lifestyle. Thank you so much for everything you do :)

Nice video. We flat tow a '16 Subaru Forester (manual transmission) with blue Ox tow bar and brake box. We towed some "five thousand miles plus" this past summer without issues, Towed miles are not reflected on the odometer of the Forester When we arrive at a given destination, the Subaru gives us 30-32 mpg which is also a plus. The Subaru is all wheel drive which allows us some back roads experience. We love it
Thanks - we looked at the Forester and really liked it but my wife didn't want to have a manual - plus I was still working at the time and didn't want to spend 3 hrs a day in stop and go traffic with a manual. Had done it before and just wasn't up to it anymore. We may consider on in the future if we get rid of the Jeep.

Wow, I just bought the same bumper to pull my 2017 JKU Rubicon, I have a Roadmaster set up with the Brakemaster air brake actuator and just ordered the factory Mopar RV tow wire kit that is just plug and play.

We just got a 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited and our RV is a 2021 Jayco Precept Class A. We are shopping for a tow bar, plate and braking system and like your tips. We need to check our weight but thought it was 4500 lbs. too.
We tow a Jeep Liberty with our Winnebago Aspect 27K and use a Blue Ox flat tow with Brake Buddy system. It works very well for us.

I have a plastic bumper on my mini van wagon, its a smaller than most mini vans so they call it a wagon... and front wheel drive.... can I use one of these flat tows to tow behind an RV ? How much do they run to buy and install and who does it? help!
Nice Video. Just bought a Class A (2004 Damon Intruder) and a Jeep Wrangler (2007). Both in mint condition. Now to learn the ropes. We've wanted to do this for years to escape the Idaho Winter. However, the Jeep's manual does not address "tow mode." I found that to be a bit odd. Any idea where I can get more info on this feature? Thanks! Great vid! When I worked at Saturn we installed a lot of Blue Ox tow bars. The setup you use looks great. How did the Blue Ox compare to you? Some of our vehicles required a fuse or two to be pulled while towing. If we dingy towed we would probably use our GMC Terrain.
We've never used the Blue Ox tow bars but they look much less substantial than the ReadyBrute.
Silly question I know, but does the Jeep odometer work, i.e. does the mileage go up on the Jeep as you tow?
No it does not.

do you use the brake light accessory?
the few times we towed it was a Dodge journey front wheel drive, wheels up in front on a tow dolly, so simple to do. that was before we got our jeep however.
Did you ever have any issues finding a place to put the dolly?
We're the Russos no not really, the tongue folds back, push it under rv and no issues, or leave it attached and it's only 5 feet behind rv
We tow a 2015 Ford Focus using a Blue Ox tow bar, base plate and Patriot braking system.

I am shopping for a tow car now. I think I am going to go for Blue Ox, but am having a hard time finding a car that I am happy with. I have three people and a 60 pound dog. I prefer a hatchback, and I can not tow more than about 4,000 pounds (winnebago view). How do you like the focus, that is one of the cars I am looking at.
Love it we have myself, wife, 10 year old two small dogs and a 70 pound retriever. I can get everyone in the car with luggage in the hatch. Towing is a breeze don't even know it is there. I installed a disconnect for the battery as the manual calls for the negative terminal to be pulled off.

No, the Jeep steering wheel does not lock so it can be flat towed without having the key in the ignition.

I'm going to buy a 2015 Jeep Wrangler unlimited I'm positive that it was a flat tow vehicle. It has 15,000 miles on it should I change wheel bearings??? what should I look for???
Look it over and if you’re very worried about it, take to a shop for a pre-purchase inspection. Very little wear happens to a flat tow vehicle especially because MOST RVers don’t put that many miles on their RVs. Even if it has 30k tow miles, the components should all be fine. I think we have around 35k miles on our Jeep when we sold it with another 30k miles towed. Zero issues.
How do I tow my grand Cherokee jeep automatic transmission two whell drive behind my bounder motorhome. 1 do I take out drive shaft ? 2. Do I just put in nuteral ? I have a single tow bar. Please I'm begging for the correct answer.

It shouldn’t be a problem. Even so you could get a riser for your hitch
Someone told me the key fob may need to be in the vehicle (the Jeep being flat towed). Any thoughts?
At least for our year jeep it did not. If you look up the manual for the year you’re interested in, there will be detailed instructions on what needs to be done.
I know this is an old video, so I hope someone will read and answer. I've got a 2005 Rubicon with an automatic, my question: will the odometer continue to go up on my jeep while flat towing?

Question to the Russos and other people that tow Jeeps. I have an old 1979 CJ5 that I want to tow, but I was warned that the transaxles, diferentials and/or gearboxes can be damaged if I just tow the Jeep in Neutral. Any comments on this.

I don't know about the older Jeeps, but the correct way to tow the more modern Jeeps is to put the transfer case in Neutral and the transmission in PARK or, for manuals, first gear. I'd look more into you specific Jeep, but my guess is that it will be similar.

No they use the same bolts that mount the bumper into the frame

Putting jeep in tow mode
Nobody says anything about whether or not you leave the key in the ignition and turn the ignition switch to on to unlock the steering column that should be pretty important to know.
Most Wranglers do not have a steering lock so no key is needed but always check the manual because there are a couple years where you do have to.
@@Weretherussos My 2000 TJ that we tow with a Ready Brute Elite behind our Holiday Rambler has a steering wheel lock. One click forward to disengage lock and I keep a spare key on RV ring so I can lock the doors. It does not turn the battery on one click forward.

I thought at one time I might flat town when I went south for the winter, but traded my standard transmission car for a new automatic that wasn't towable. With the Class B I found that I really didn't miss not have a toad so I've never bothered now. Belated Merry Christmas and HAPPY NEW YEAR 2017.
We're curious to see what life without a tow car is going to be like.
@@Weretherussos How big is the engine in your motorhome. I am thinking about buying a 29' Newmar with a Ford V-10, I have a 2013 Sahara as well....we have steel bumpers and fenders. Not sure how much it weights.

I didn't realize they were that heavy. They say I have a 5000lb towing capacity but I can't see my MH being hoss enough to manage that in the mountains.
you can have a 5000 lb towing capacity hitch, but your towing vehicle might be loaded to where you can't tow a vehicle with 5000 lbs rating because you have the RV loaded to maybe you can now only tow a 3000 lb vehicle. You do need to check the RV towing weight according to the manufactures combined towing weights etc. Reason being the mechanical components might not be able to do their job, brakes are made to stop a weight safely etc, could be you hook up a 5000 lb car but you might have the RV loaded up to it's maximum weight, then even frame damage can result, or brake failure, which could possibly result in some type of accident, especially during a emergency braking episode, maybe downhill braking etc. check other videos which can explain it better than I can. If I find a good one, I will share it.
Waste of a video. You should have showed how to put Jeep in neutral for flat towing.
The problem with that is depending on which model year Jeep you have, the process is going to be different. If I show how to do it on our Jeep then people who won't check their owners manual and could potentially damage their Jeep and blame me. Much better to say..."Follow your owners manual"

What’s your doubt? They turn with the motorhome. The steering wheel on the Jeep doesn’t lock so the wheels turn as the vehicle turns
