What memories! Way back in 1968 when my dad took us to Disneyland for the first time, I sat in awe and was mesmerized by the GE Carousel of Progress. Through the years, it remained one of my top five rides I HAD to go on when at Disneyland. I was saddened when they closed down. So appreciated this video.
When I went (around 2005 or 6) they still had the 80's/90's "modern day" side. I get there's only so much room in the carousel, but it is a bit jarring to see it jump from the 50's to late 2010's
I heard a long time ago (15 years) that they were closing this attraction. Guess not. Maybe too big an outcry. It was Walt's pet project. Is anyone out there old enough to remember the original song they sang for the first few years after DW opened? Can't remember all the words, but it started like this: Now is the time, now is the best time, now is the best time of your life...
Tex Rittenberg before this ride, they had a ride here called American Sings. It was the same concept but America through the ages... somebody unfortunately does on the ride and that was permanently closed. Shortly after this ride opened up.
Hey, I wanted to inform you that someone stole/reupload this video to their yt account. To find it just search "carousel of progress" and add the filter "this week" if you see this by the time I'm posting this comment. The video is towards the bottom, and is the only one so far this week to show the entire thing. Just wanted to let you know.
Those "Boys" with the flying machine were from Dayton Ohio, not North Carolina... Invented and built in Dayton Ohio...first test flight at Kitty Hawk North Carolina, then perfected at Huffman Prairie outside of Dayton Ohio
But the last scene looks like today's kitchens and living rooms. They even foresaw the shape of PC monitors and VR headsets and a stove that responds to voice commands.
William B I believe this actually is the updated version of this attraction. The last scene is definitely from the 2010s, with VR sets and flat screen tv’s and talking appliances. I remember seeing the older version from the last time I was at Disney World in 1995, and this is definitely not the same. In the older version, I remember the last scene was with all of the robots sitting in rocking chairs and then standing to take a bow. Even at 10 years old, I thought this was the coolest attraction there.
Miner Diner it more about the creation of the robotics and the recreation of times in this attraction. It was created in 1969 so that says a lot back then. Which is why it is so popular. It was ahead of its time walt disney n his imagineers
One of the best attractions at Magic Kingdom
love it too! always fascinated by how realistic they are!
I don't know why I get so nostalgic from the music.

On that first stage, I would prefer Easter instead of Valentines Day. It would be a greater opportunity to decorate the scene.
Did he say something about no video recording? Maybe I misunderstood. LOL.
Yes but kept the screen off with no light leaking:) and sat in last row so as not to disturb.
cool.

I remember seeing this at Disney World. One thing that hasn't changed, men sitting down, while women do all the work.
First in Disneyland,niw in WDW

Aryn I heard that too. I heard someone was squished flat because of the rotating walls.
