- I have no good justification for the video title other than that while watching Tim Burton's masterpiece DUMBO (2019) I was struck by the idea of calling a video "DUMBO SLAPS" and try as I might I couldn't remove it from my mind.

Oh, damn! My favorite TH-camr just commented on a video by my other favorite TH-camr. That doesn't happen every day.
It makes you think about how the world could be beautifull and amazing but in reality beauty is only used for european churches and comercial theme parks, everything else is made as cheap as possible as fast as possible. Our world is the equivelent to a cardboard box in the object spectrum.

It's weird how Tim Burton and Johnny Depp were once refreshing and edgy, but now to me they are the epitome of cash in boring corporate blandness.
Creativity is stifled by capitalism
It shows how much the corporate machine embraced them as gimmicks to make it seem like their product have some sort of art, which is pretty disgusting for sure.
Creativity is isolating - it separates audiences. Big money productions are always about aiming at the lowest, most common taste - they have to be since their expense requires massive returns. When the money spent to produce a work of art goes up, creativity must go down. This isn't to say that creativity can't survive Capitalism, only that creativity in mass-produced culture can't survive it. Look in the smaller spaces.
I really liked Big Eyes. Johnny Depp is just a bloated alcoholic that beats women now, so there is that.

From the clips in this video, it looks like they aren't so much making fun of him as they are accusing the circus of presenting a humbug. They aren't saying "that's ugly!" They're saying, "that's fake!" It's different, and it has a grounding in circus history. I'm still not going to see this shit movie, just saying.
At least Colin Farrell doesn't turn out to be Johnny Depp at the end. So, there are positives...

Ordering dumbo's mother killed for essentially no reason is hilarious to me because the circus is already desperate to make money and there's not many circus animals more valuable to sell than a BREEDING ELEPHANT. That's like having your fully furnished house demolished when you find an apartment you like better.
The biggest difference direction-wise is the literal perspective of how the shots are set up. In the original, we see nearly everything from the line of sight of a baby elephant. So we don't see much of the human characters; it's mostly feet. (They did the same thing with Lady and the Tramp.) So the human characters make even less sense when you realize they had to ignore the very basic artistic setup of the original. It's like Tim Burton didn't even understand why the original was shot the way it was.
I'm sure he did, but he also wanted to make a movie to express what he wanted. It's quite clear in most Tim Burton directed movies there are very specific things (Chocolate Factory, daddy issues, alice in wonderland, woman empowerment), I think Jenny hit it on the head that it was Burton getting mad that Disney tried to put his formula in a bottle without him.

It's tragic how Jenny was born too late for 1920s fashion. It is obviously her jam.
With all the flower print dresses she usually wears I'd clock her at fifties, but her face and figure would be perfect for 40s imo.

I saw Dumbo! And I came to the EXACT same conclusion you did about the girl's direction. Tim Burton seems to think the way to portray a "mature, intuitive" child is to make them a toneless, expressionless robot that spews exposition and sometimes says "mysterious" things the adults just don't understand because they aren't as "in tune" with the world. Some of the cuts to her face during tense moments were downright painful. Dumbo is teetering on a platform above the audience, and the camera cuts to her just looking up at him like :|

This was the first film I walked out on... Because my gf woke me up so she could walk out...
You're honestly the first person I've seen talk about The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. Weirdly enough, it also had a subplot about the protagonist wanting to be a scientific genius, which filtered into the film's backstory of the people of the Four Realms being toys brought to life by a steampunk laser machine (because apparently just having a magical land be... magical... isn't good enough anymore).
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms has the same plot as Deltarune.
I remember seeing the ad for that movie on N*tflix and ignoring it; now whenever I hear about it (which admittedly is not often) it sounds more and more like a hallucination and I can never find where to watch it...
My favorite part is how you used a pirated cam copy for B-roll. With Russian subtitles, because of course.

Late, but I need to jump in here. I had to write a review of this movie for a web writing class and, good God, Millie's wooden performance is easily the biggest fault to me. I was just sitting there the entire movie praying for her to give something - even if she ended up overacting. The little boy had more emotion than her!
Late to the Jenny Nicholson party, but very glad I stumbled across this TH-camr. Very unique, bright, comfy, and funny. Crazy attention to detail on the most obscure of details, yet manages to make them relatable and humorous.
Oddly, kind of reminds me of the wit of MST3K during its heyday.

The only time I've been to a circus was on my birthday a couple years ago (I think it was when the Barnum and Bailey & Ringling Bros. Circus was doing its final shows?), and I LOVED. IT. Honestly, I wasn't expecting what we got because it wasn't _just_ a bunch of fun acts with animal trainers and ice skaters. No, it was a bunch of acts tied together with SONGS. IT WAS A FRICKIN MUSICAL AND IT WAS AMAZING.
Edit: They also had this really nice booklet about all the performers and how they stopped putting elephants in the show to instead help efforts to revive the elephant population. It was pretty sweet.
Honestly, horses just being horses in a world of talking animals is pretty much on brand for horses.

The child actors were like cardboard cutouts with buttons that when pressed play lines that were intended to make the audience feel sad or say "Aww".
They were a stand in for the cartoon mouse.

So Michael Keaton's character wants to have the mother killed, instead of taking good care of the mother, which would likely make Dumbo calmer and potentially perform better? OK.

@Thread Bomb It’s not that there’s suddenly loads of them, but that they are weirdly redeeming things that don’t deserve their good reputation. The greatest showman glorifies a man who, even by the standards of the time, was cruel, exploitative and racist. And this film glorified the circus as a place of whimsy, even though in the original, the circus was NOT a good place.

coming back to this video years later to inform you of something very important. a new coworker of mine's dad actually owns a travelling circus and she spent a most of her early life travelling and performing, and so i jokingly asked her that whole thing about running away to join the circus, and she deadass said it *is* kind of a scandal when someone leaves to just go get a 9-5 job and that when she was small she just wanted to go to school like a regular kid. so uh, kids run away from the circus to join the office
