“Ah yes, these Star Wars dad jokes will make a fine addition to my collection”
i see what you did there, sir... 👌
Let me fix Beast Whisperer for Dana as a bear tribal card...I'll do it using the new Cleave mechanic:
Bea[st Whispere]r
Well played
If you're playing a green tribe, I always suggest Beast Whisperer. 4 mana, whenever you cast a creature, draw a card. Simple and clean, easy, breezy, beautiful, cover girl.
*chefs kiss*
Your guys conversation on edh is so entertaining.... I catch every episode I can and I can just listen or watch I love it.... Great content great channel fellas....
Vanquisher's Banner and Icon of Ancestry put in a lot of work in my vampire deck as sources of pump and extra cards. With it being mono black I have other ways to draw cards but those 2 still pull their weight and its awesome you can run them in anything.
I once was in a pod that had a Slivers deck while I was playing my Boros Soldiers deck. Sliver player swung out at the two combo players and didn't have enough even with his Coat of Arms to kill all three of his opponents. So he leaves the Boros deck up, I soak the damage and live. My turn comes around, Assemble The Legion gets me 3 more tokens. 3 more total creatures including my board state and his coat of arms. I then cast my own coat of arms and Berserkers' Onslaught (when I still ran it). Pushed every Soldier into the red zone along with my commander, Iroas. Combat belongs to the Boros, not some silly bugs. :p
As one of the few people that has used Fight to the Death due to pulling several copies from an Alara Reborn fatpack, I'm glad it's in this episode's challenge.
"Oh my god, they were broommates"
I remember watching this and starting rebuilding Edgar Markov as Crimson Vow was released, now I’m planning to build a Sai Thopter tribal deck, and it’s always a good things to watch you guys. Love this channel, it’s one of the first ones that really got me into commander, keep up the good work!
My first Commander deck (which I still have) was Samut, Voice of Dissent Warrior tribal and it's so much fun. The only non Warrior in the deck is God-Eternal Oketra, who makes big Zombie Warriors. It's a beatdown deck with some fun things going on in the top end. Never plan on taking that thing apart
dang, every episode is amazing but this one is just filled with so many golden eggs. Dana's concept of comparing a mana rock to Urza's incubator was mind blowing. Also who knew 2 is twice as good as 1?!?!
I’ve had a Kindred Summons for a long time but have never really used it in anything until I saw this video lol. Totally throwing this in my Kyler deck. That deck needs more card advantage anyway.
I’ve been liking bygone bishop in Kyler, It’s not a human but it works well with ulvenwald mysteries and tireless tracker. I initially put it in the deck over mentor of the meek because it was never triggering when Kyler was in play
Thank you so much for making these videos. I wait in antici- all week for you guys to post a new episode. -pation
Always love the content. This one especially spoke to me. Tribal building and buffing is definitely my jam.
casting a spirit/vampiric link on an opponent's creature is hillarious!
While it strictly a tribal card the monuments are very good. I really enjoy the synergy between kefnet’s monument and gadwick in my wizard tribal deck.
Thank you for making this video!!! I learned a lot!!!
It's a shame how there's a bunch of overlap between tribal support cards, as the prices tend to go waaay up.
It also contributes a lot to them feeling kind of samey. Rin and Seri might be the one tribal deck I'm looking forward to building soon.
Much as I love double-dadjokes from both Matt and Dana...I kinda miss Dana's snarkisms at the state of Magic to begin my EDHrecCast!
One of my best moments ever with my Marrow-Gnawer deck. I have Door of Destinies and Thrumming Stone on the field, then cast Relentless Rats. I had over 20 rats on the field and their power/toughness was just ridiculous. If only I had Alter of Dementia at that time. One turn later, still won by turning right. Haha
Oof, I hadn't realized konda's banner was symmetrical. I'm going to have to cut it from my Orvar list now.
Yeah, it doesnt sound a wise choice to give creatures your opponents control +1/+1 and make copies of that card lol
the challenge the stats!!! ive been building a deck based off these with ikra and Tymna as my commanders so its basically lifegain vampires
Love me some Jank tribal and creature tribal discussion ( :
Return of the nightstalkers and ashes of the fallen, etc... are another way to do a patriarchs bidding effect if you for some reason aren't running tribal nightstalkers.
That CPR joke took my breath away.
all my blue tribal decks run Sun Quan and Archetype of Imagination. Giving your entire team unblockable has won me many games
There's also a six Mana merfolk that does the same thing and can be tutored straight into the battlefield with multiple cards
I had no idea Steely Resolve existed. Thanks for letting me know about that one!
I don’t have any tribal edh decks, but I run kindred discovery in my Talrand deck because it draws sooooo many cards off the drake tokens
Pyre of heroes in mono white angels is fantastic
I’ve always loved Konda’s Banner.
Brimaz loves Konda's Banner.
The major problem with those cards is the budget.
Proxy.
Mtgoldfish has black and white proxies that are easy to read
@@kingfuzzy2 there are way better proxies out there that are identical in every possible way to "real" cards.
@@bobby45825 got a specific website in mind?
@@whitestriped9126

I think players pass over Skemfar Shadowsage because it's an elf, but in a deck like Wilhelt that makes a lot of tribal tokens it can add up to a very nice way to close out the game.
A really great card for tribal decks is the "Maskwood nexus".
Even the support cards for your deck become the same tribe and get/give all the bonuses. Great for tribal types that have few cards of that type. Heroes for instance.. etc.
Really surprised this card wasn't given a mention here.
Also major props for the changelings! They are great for filling extra slots in a tribal deck
It's so nice to have a colorless Conspiracy finally, I suppose there was also Arcane Adaptation. But the point stands.
@@skillganon606 My exact thought, as well. The "Achievement Unlocked" challenge would be to stick the Nexus and then activate The World Tree and dump your deck on the board. 😁 Good times!
What about Gray Merchant? It fits in all zombie Deck, but Mike importantly it can even fit in a black vampires deck that focuses on life drain ie; Vito. Is this a good include? What do y'all think?
I have a suggestion for you guys: A 'fun' score. Like the salt score, but people rate the cards on how fun they are to play and play against. This would better help people build low power but really fun decks.
Yes please daddy
@@kingfuzzy2 ahh my eyes
Here's a puppy 🐕 and kitten🐈 as an apology ( :
@@kingfuzzy2 A very good apology :)
Excellent glad to hear that.
god i want dana to make a "random obscure cards i like" list on archidekt i can pick through
Me too thanks
Pyre of heroes is very good in goblins. Krenko > Kiki Jiki.
Token > welder
Grenzo > sharpshooter/matron
Love the Rocky Horror Picture reference :D
Cavern of Souls
I have two tribal decks wizards and slivers and enjoy both of them besides my elf deck which is my most favorite deck
I played patriarchs bidding during onslaught standard. It was great in zombie tribal deck
It's great with nightstalkers and if you have a card like ashes of the fallen return of the nightalkers does the same thing.
That "C3PR" is beautiful.
Kindred Summons is an instant??????? Wow
Kyler outshining Lenoire in her own deck lol
Wizards, reprint the kindred cycle, you cowards!
I find myself adding icon of ancestry into my tribal decks that are less supported in terms of lords and such. Goes well with/in place of heralds horn
They've released 3 tribal precons this year and there will be two more. You'd think we could get 1 card from the cycle per deck
....I always come here for the puns.
😄😁😊
I love tribal decks. So much synergy. Especially dragons! So much so that I built 2 dragon decks!
Arcane adaptation, inspiring statuary, mycosynth golem, and conspiracy also good options generically
I couldn't help but notice Crippling Fear is a strictly better Eyeblight Massacre printed in the same set (which I found rather rude)
what about doing a part 2 of this topic? :D for instance, adding Horn of Gondor on 19:38 for an EXPLOSIVE amount of mana?
Also, Gilraen can blink by paying "2, tap" with benefits!
You're making me want to finish making my Rafiq X First Slivers Chosen deck.... 👀
I don't actually have a tribal deck, you could say that my rakdos decks is eldrazi but it doesn't really care about the eldrazi per say it just wnat colorless big stuff, I've been meaning to make one, either an Inalla deck or a Kumena one, but something else always comes up that push them back on the queue, also I like the idea of a wizard deck but I would need more impactful wizards in order to make the deck good like the only viable option I see is the combo with the merfolk but I am not looking for that type of deck, for example the giant wizard from kaldheim that deal x damage where x is the number of creatures with a common types its the kind of finisher I was talking about but, idk it still feel like meh
I'm with Dana on building tribal. I've theorycrafted a bunch of tribal decks but the only one I have in paper is Rat tribal and I'm not really interested in building any more.
Bottom of the library tribal and mono u naga tribal wer the most fun for me to build. Frog tribal is so far the most fun to play
bro what I bought Steely Resolve like 3 years ago from card kingdom and it was like 75 cents hahaha
Shiny profit
Spreading Plague in Jund Eldrazi. 75% of the time, it works everytime!
I agree with Dana on non-tribal creatures in a tribal deck. I "look down" on decks that include them because it comes off as the builder didn't wanna actually try something unique and copped out with generic power cards and MtG/EDH has waaay too much of that as is.
minion of the mighty is a kobold that is really only good in a dragon deck, as it cheats out dragons, something that dragons need. its a bad card to use period if u dont have dragons but still does it own unique thing. i have it in my Tiamat deck, so first use tiamat to add dragons to hand, swing (coz red has lots of haste + lightning greaves) play a dragon down. can be a much faster game than some ur dragon or scion of ur dragon games, especially if the dragon you put down is the ur dragon or morophon. debatably more usable than dragonspeaker shaman as well. just saying that sometimes non-tribal cards can only be used with-in certain tribes, which to me classifies them as tribal. another example is ninja's........ bloody shapeshifters and enchantments that do similar things
Minion of the mighty is a possible include in my Rakdos dragon tribal deck if I can ever find space
Price of the card also dictate how many deck will use the cards
It's gone up in price but Unholy Grotto for the new zombie pre con would help immensely.
Does Winota, Joiner of Forces count as tribal? i tend to use soldiers and goblin tokens to use winota's effect to get humans, but would it classify as human tribal considering all of the non-human support? (only 12~15 humans in deck)(about 12 token generators like kuldotha rebirth, martial coup, hero of bladehold (fills both roles), raise the alarm, assemble the legion etc) non-human cards include cards like angel of the dire hour, avacyn archangel of hope, sun titan, cathars crusade, thrill of possibility etc. (obviously more white than red at this point)
10 of the card type or theme makes it it a tribal deck
Tribal: Any
Commander: First Sliver
Arcane Adaptation: Sliver
Cryptic Gateway / Mana Echoes / Mycosynth Lattice / Maelstrom Nexus
Everything else is just filler to play the deck as fast as possible and set up win con.
Am I the only one who like Cryptic Gateway for tribal?
Love tribal decks. The only problem is that my two tribal decks are "Krakens, Leviathans, Octopi and Serpents" and "Pegasi, Unicorns and Horses" which means I can't use the standard tribal cards.
Yes! I think it would be great if Wizards printed a few cards uniting Horses, Unicorns and Pegasi. As an added benefit, It might bring more women/girls into the game, something WOTC has clearly been trying to do for several years now.
Damn I though Joey had totally gotten Matt finally but he always has another haha
Species Specialist, in my mono black Jerren human tribal....it's the best 4 drop in my deck
They WERE BROOMATES !
I'm with Dana 100% if you aren't a zombie, you aren't going in my zombie deck. That's one of the reasons I waited so long to build a zombie tribal deck, it was all humans leading zombies. And that just sounds so lame to me, I want a zombie leading the zombies into battle.
My Ayula plays 24 bears + 12 non-bears creatures. But I do make a point to avoid playing Changelings and artifact creatures.
They should define “tribal”, like how many of a creature do you need to call it “tribal”? How many creatures not of the tribe are allowed? Does your Commander need to be of the tribe? (For example, Alela actually might be the best commander for Sphinx tribal, but she’s not a Sphinx, and she only makes faeries, yet she pumps flyers, likes artifacts and enchantments, and plays in Esper colors).
Faces of the past does work.
PATION!
God, I wish I had a playgroup where G/W human tribal is even remotely playable...
Seedborn is a little overrated but it's still good.
dana all about that alpha status have a foil play set for my snake tribal decks
dadjokeRECcast soon! xD
I think Joey is sleeping on Molten Echoes a bit too much. It’s an ETB effect so it is doubled by Panharmonicon or Anointed Procession, quadrupled with both. Casting a legendary isn’t a problem is you want those extra copies to die immediately (doesn’t work with sacrifice triggers though), without the need of a sac outlet. Cast a single lord, pump your team +5/+5 for the turn instead of just +1/+1.
Speaking of lords, Thirsting Bloodlord unfortunately doesn’t make the cut in my Edgar Markov deck. There’s already Captivating Vampire, Legion Lieutenant, Stormkirk Captain, and Bloodline Keeper//Lord of Lineage, each are either cheaper or provide another benefit other than jump the pump. Two tribal lords you didn’t mention are Adaptive Automaton and Metallic Mimic. Then there’s also Cordial Vampire, who works with the Molten Echoes + legendary trick. If you were able to cast it just before your legendary, each copy would see those legendaries die as well and all vampires would get 20x +1/+1 counters.
Big Daddy Markov started off as your usual tribal deck, but has quickly warped into a tribal/combo deck. I also prefer Herald’s Horn over Urza’s Incubator thanks to its second ability. In terms of non-tribal cards, Adriana, Captain of the Guard and Birgi, God of Storytelling//Harnfell, Horn of Bounty have made separate appearances depending on which version of the deck I had built at the time.
WOTC! MAKE A ABZAN TRIBAL ELF COMMANDER!
Kethis, legendary elf tribal
@@kriptonite981 where is the elf payoff? He's a legendary tribal commander. Not an elf ball commander in abzan..
I think you guys missed something with Pyre of Heroes. Changelings exist.
Okay it’s an hour long episode and I’m handling my newborn did I miss them mention Masked wood nexus? I mean it smooths out all those non tribal cards that end up in the tribal deck. It also is a 3 mana tap to kill spell in my reaper king 👑
IIRC we talk about it at the end, but I haven't watched yet either and I'm not sure what might have gotten trimmed :)
I was so happy when I ripped my first Maskwood Nexus, I've wanted a non color restricted Conspiracy for so long. Are you running that and Arcane Adaptation in your Reaper King deck as well?
@@skillganon606 I have Arcane Adaptation, but not conspiracy. I have the Birthing Boughs though, it taps makes a changeling. I haven’t had an issue yet about needing a 4th, but it would be a solid addition.
@@quayo90 eh it being five mana and double black I'd say it's not worth the slot if you aren't having issues with it. Birthing Boughs is super cool though, thanks for the heads up.
@@skillganon606 yeah that’s the double black was the turn off for me. I have maybe 5 lands that can tap for black. It’s only there to tutor Nexus
I`ve never found a tribal deck I would like to build. I feel like they build themselves and that's boring
It is super sad and unfortunate that jank tribes like ladies looking left and bottom of the library tribal didn't get one mention : /
No mention of Zurgo Boardwipe Tribal either
