Agreed....I just got a 04 XKR vert and love it!! Was actually looking at X150 model only, however, love the lines of the X100 more, a classic E-class look with at the time modern reliable upgrades. The supercharged 4.2 engine is fantastic and if you keep the car well maintained (like any auto) you will really enjoy it. You cannot go wrong with either model (X100, X150) 😎 They will and/or may already be classics!!
I feel that these (especially the 2005 facelift) are among the most beautiful cars ever made. There’s just something about this shape that the x150 doesn’t quite capture. Anyway, I’d like to request on an X308 XJR as that is what I drive 😛
As I mentioned in your XKR video, I just purchased an X150 XKR. Having owned 2 XJs and an S-Type, my goal was to get an XK8. To be honest, when the X150 arrived I liked the looks of the X100 car over the X150 car. The X100 seemed to have more "classic Jag" charm and appeal to me over the X150. Like you, I feel the X100 is a beautiful, sleeker design. The X150 is more muscular. When I finally started to look seriously for a car, I looked at the X150 again and ended up getting it. It just feels more modern, with lots more modern conveniences. For a car I'm planning to keep for a while, it just made more sense to go with the X150, though I still love the styling and charm of the X100. To sum it up, for me the X100 is the "better Jag", with its characteristic ties to the E Type and XJS. The X150 is the "better car" when it comes to performance, handling dynamics, interior space, electronics, etc. I'm very pleased with my purchase and love the car.
Steven, you couldn't have said it better. I have both the X100 and the 5.0L X150. I simply can not drive the X100 anymore. I've been spoiled by the sheer competence of the X150. Outside of possibly the aesthetics, there is simply no comparison, the X150 is so much better and more reliable. You absolutely made the right decision!
I've owned my xkr for nearly 9 yrs now, it's an xkr400, limited edition of 60 coupe's, it has a piano black interior as apposed to the wood, which I think feels a lot more contemporary, it's been lowered which was a factory option for I think £1100, and I still think its the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Slate grey with the same Montreal wheels as the car you drove, to anyone out there considering buying one, don't hesitate, just make sure you take your time and find the right one, which now is becoming a major problem, thanks for a great video, cya.
I have both a gorgeous X100 convertible and a beautiful X150 5.0L coupe. For me, the X100 clearly shows its E-type heritage and shows it very well. Its sensuous lines in both coupe and convertible are still beautiful, and of all of the cars I have ever owned including exotics such as my incredible De Tomaso Pantera, I have never had a car that receives as many compliments whenever I drive it. HOWEVER!, in terms of drivability, the newer X150 platform is light years ahead in every other category. The X150 XKR besides the obvious power advantage, rides better, handles better, feels better, feels tighter, is more comfortable for tall guys (like me), and just is so much more solid, that I can't even bring myself to drive my X100 any longer. It just sits. The things I don't like about my X100 include: it jiggles like a bowl of jello, so much so that it makes it unenjoyable, it is scary at speed on curvy roads, it takes a tremendous amount of maintenance to keep it running well. The things I love about my X100: it's gorgeous shape, it's huge trunk, it's British gentleman interior, its obvious heritage ties to the XKE. As for my X150, things I don't like: almost nothing. I don't think it's as sensuous looking as the X100 but is more of a handsome looking car. The fuel injectors will occasionally act up and make you feel like you've blown your engine. The things I love about my X150: Handsome, traditional GT shape, incredible power and torque at any speed, the ZF and the paddle shifters, the seats, the tightness, handling, and ride (and my car has passed 185,000 miles and still feels that way), the reliability! And finally, the glee that comes with gunning it past cars with drivers that would never believe a Jaguar could pull like it does. But mostly, it's so much more solid feeling and smooth in comparison to my X100. Your review is right on the money.
I went looking to replace my XK8 coupe, tried a X150 on. Couldn’t wait to get out of it and back into my XK8. The seating position was horrible. I am under 6ft but have long legs and have had 4 hip replacements (all before turning 60). As the squab moved aft in the X150 the back started to move more upright to avoid the B pillar, ugh. The XK8 was replaced by a 05 XKR. I have put over 75k miles on it (3rd owner bought it with 21k). The most comfortable car I have ever owned.
It's pretty crazy how much price difference there is between the X100 and X308 (XJR). Here in Sweden an XJR X308 is around 6-7K (€) while the X100 is around 20K. But the X100 is so desirable, I understand it.
Yeah there's a definite difference between them over here as well, though not usually as drastic. The undervalued status of the XJ doesn't help, but I think they will go up over time as one of the only true old school modern luxury cars

Spot on with your comments. I've got one that looks almost identical to this - same colour, same wheels, but oatmeal interior instead of black. You're also down my neck of the woods - I recognised Whitestone Corner roundabout near the end of the video :)
I am 6.4ft and own a xkr x100 (2001) for 6 jears now, I do'nt even need to put the seat alle the way back for a good position, so space for me in the x100 is not a limiter. I love mij car, and I prefer the looks over the x150 model. Never the less, thnx for the video!
Shocked to see X150 Trade prices still dive-bombing. £6.7k for a 2007 XK Coupe advertised with 75K miles. Now less than X100 XK8 with same 4.2L engine and mileage! (Based on eBay, Pistonheads, Autotrader in Sep'24). I suppose the early model is now climbing in classic desireability value, whilst the later model is still dropping in initial depreciation.
Yeah they're still a bargain for the most part for sure. The 5.0 litre generation, particularly a Dynamic R or RS command the higher prices. And interestingly the S-Type R and X350/X358 XJR have risen much more in comparison

Even at those prices I still wouldn't be entirely gainst owning one as a stylish daily driver.
Yeah I've heard from a couple of viewers that Oz prices are pretty crazy on cars like this, which is a shame. In some cases I do prefer older versions. In particular I much prefer the 2000's over current versions of things like the Mercedes S-Class, Audi RS5, Ford Focus RS and plenty more
The original XK8/XKR is a better looking machine than the later generation XK- the front end and headlight arrangement was awkward on the next generation model.
Great and thoughtful review! "Could this be the modern E-Type? " Nope. If Jag was to make a modern E-Type, I wonder what they would name it? Maybe, "F-Type"?
I have an early XK8 (96) and I am 6.2. At first it was really hard to get comfortable and it thought I had made an expensive mistake. I found I could lower the seat and then there is plenty of room. I have the earlier style of seats as mime is from from the launch year. Don't expect to use the rear seats though. I would say it is an excellent car for long distance driving. I have gone from Switzerland to Denmark and back on a round trip and it was very comfortable. It will get up and go if you put your foot down but if you cruise along following the traffic at 140 km/h on the Autobahn, you can pretty much cross Germany on one tank. This is not a car I would take on the Nuremburg Ring, you would probably not have much fun. Take it for a crossing the continent, go to Côte d'Azure or Monaco for a weekend away and you will be hard pressed to find a better car.
English cars seem to have the ability to make you feel rich when u aint lol ive had bmw ive had benz they made me feel "better off" but this jag gives me the feeling of richness
20 years down the line and you still stop and stare at the old XK as they roll past. Looking like an E Type, especially in convertible form. The newer car is undoubtedly a better drive and a better actual “car”, but it looks generic (could be a Nissan 370or a badly repaired Aston with Lexus headlights)…
1997-2006 XK and XJ cars. Best generation of the modern Jaguars ever!! True classics!!

Maybe, "F-Type"?
i really wanted one of those but im 6,2...gutted
There's always the X150, lol. No worries there
I have an early XK8 (96) and I am 6.2.
POG
The shape of the side mirrors always irked me, I was always wondering if those from x-350 wouldn't suit the car better
I just bought this exact car from APC. Absolutely love it!
Thanks for the great video
Ey nice one, enjoy!
I can’t help but see this jag and the Aston of this era as the British catfish camaro.
I can see that, lol
Mmmmm….E-Type……
Another Brit Money Pit...
Even people who owned the old XKE put small block Chevrolet motors in them.
Never met or spoken to a single person who's swapped an XK, lol
You couldn't be more wrong friend.
