Religion is term used by western academia to box in certain paths and perspectives. Gurmat, Sikhi, Gursikhi or whatever other name you wanna give it is not a religion, it's been turned into one by outsiders who observed it, as well as those who wanted to contain it (the British/English). The term "Sikh" is not a noun, it's a state of being.

very true. Sikh means student - you can only be one if you experience it by being sikh means you follow the path of Guru Nanak ji - the divine master. Without the experience there is no God connection there is no bhagat there is no sikh. I think a lot of sikhs themselves don't understand this either. That sikhi is an experience it is not a religion.
Because only through experience can one become a bhagat a saint and whole objective of guru nanak ji's teachings were to turn mere mortals into saints and bhagats so we could be the divine light. Its a torch of enlightment that we can pass onto others so they can conquer the mind too.. all dukh and sukh is in the mind and we have to become beyond this mortal self and become the god-self.
Hence, sikhi is beyond religion it is the very experience of us learning, failing, getting up, and conquering the mind and become a saint/bhagat.
