    Watching this late into summer. At the moment, I'm doing Jane Austen July, but I'm reading other books as well. I'm terrible at planning a TBR, because I can't create set plans and lists I try to make will become endless. I want to read a book I just bought or I feel like I should read that has been sitting on my shelf for months. Then of course, people such as yourself are inspiring for what I want to read. I just watched your June reading vlog before watching this one and it looks like it is going well.

    The Preface of Paradise Lost by CS Lewis is so helpful in reading Paradise Lost.

      I didn’t realize he wrote a preface - I will have to look that up, sounds awesome!

      @@BookishPrincess - also Perelandra by CS Lewis is incredible. It is also another book to read after Paradise Lost.

    That is some deep reading you’ve planned, but I love your enthusiasm for all the books. I have been planning to read Lewis’s “Out of the Silent Planet” and his space trilogy soon. Looking forward to seeing what you think of all these. I’ve always struggled with Classics but you’ve encouraged me to try again and realise that there are some books that just need to be read slowly. God Bless 🙏😊

    So true what you say about classics. Whenever I read Dickens, I imagine what it would have been like reading at the time, when you had to wait for the next instalment to be published. And the stories of readers waiting at the docks in the US for the latest serials to arrive as they were so excited to find out what happened next. It definitely connects us across all times.

    Thank you for sharing your TBR summer classics. Nobody talk about books with so much passion, in-depth thoughts and understanding like you do. You are amazing. I am planning to re-read the Harry Potter series and start reading the PG Wodehouse books. I enjoy reading your blogs too. You inspire me to read more 📚! Cannot wait to read your book about Cymbeline!

      Aww thank you so much, that means a lot! Harry Potter and Wodehouse will make for a fun summer. 👍 I’ve been making some progress on the Cymbeline book, I’m excited to get it finished and share it. 😄

    I’ve been thinking about reading Mrs. Dalloway this summer as well. Maybe I should take this video as a sign and get it from the library! Currently I’m reading Mary B. by Katherine Chen as an early start to JAJ.

    I can listen to you read an entire book... you speak so passionately.. It makes a person want to read.
    You look lovely as always. Nice list. ❤️ I don't read books like this but you make me want to.
    Side note: I like the afterlife idea you mentioned. Never thought about it that way.

    Hello, Dorothy L Sayers is a fave of mine, too. I haven't read her non fiction writings but I am a fan of her Lord Peter Wimsey books. He is a fun and smart character, eccentric and very British.

      Lord Peter is fantastic! The Harriet Vane trilogy is my favorite - I love Dorothy Sayers so much. I would definitely recommend checking out her nonfiction!

      Jane Austen in July is so much fun, I’m sure I’ll be rereading some Jane Austen this summer. I’m in the Northeast, the weather has been beautiful this month. 😍

    I just finished abook named The tears of Mount Sinjar. It was so good, and it came up on Amazon's recondition. The book and the character were amazing, I was engaged right to the end of the book, like I was with them felt I'm part of the book,. I know it was fiction, but I keep thinking about how they are now. Hands down, I appreciate a good writer more than anything.

    I'm reading The Odyssey this summer because I read Dante from Sept 2021 to April 2022 and there were SO many classical references that I only got because of the notes. I've heard good things about Fitzgerald's translations. Definitely need to get to Virgil too! I'm planning to read Sense and Sensibility for Jane Austen July and my first Emile Zola in August! I'm sure I'll read more classics too, but more on a whim. Montaigne reminds me of Count Rostov in A Gentleman in Moscow.

    • @BookishPrincess
      @BookishPrincess  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There really are so many classical references in Dante, and so many characters from the Trojan War - I relied a lot on the notes too, lol! Sounds like a great summer TBR!

    Great list. Hoping to get to Robert Fagles Aeneid translation this summer. Loved his version of The Iliad earlier this year. I might try Alexander Pope's Iliad when I read that again, apparently it's written in rhyming couplets. Also continuing with Trollope's Barchester series. Small House at Allington is next. I see Virgil as a challenge and Trollope as a comfort.

    • @BookishPrincess
      @BookishPrincess  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha that’s a good way to describe both Virgil and Trollope! I read Trollope’s Rachel Ray this month (somehow forgot to include it in this video, but it’ll be in my June reading vlog), and it was a delight!

  • @bucketoffrogz

    I'm excited to pick up the Aeneid soon too! I loved revisiting the Iliad in April, so I cannot wait to continue the story. I look forward to hearing your thoughts in your upcoming reading vlogs, you'll have to let us know who your favourite "Olympian" characters are from the saga!

    • @BookishPrincess
      @BookishPrincess  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s such an epic saga, and the Olympian characters are amazing. I just got past the part where Aeneas has a close call with the Cyclops!

    Loooooove that Cather thought! 🥰♥️ I’ve read a few of hers , but not that one. She is one I’d like read all her backlist. I have Mrs. Dalloway on my toppling TBR. 😁 We find Librivox solo recordings not the collaborative ones! 😂 I reread Out of the Silent Plant in January and enjoyed it so much more than my first time reading it. I found a podcast called 100 Days of Dante and I’m almost done with Inferno! I’m going very slow, but enjoying it it! You have a feast for your mind layed out for your summer! 😍

    • @BookishPrincess
      @BookishPrincess  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Lost Lady is making me want it read more Cather! Haha I need to look more carefully and find a solo recording, the first one that popped up when I searched was collaborative!
