This sounds like a very difficult situation for people living in the USA. The UK has a free at point of use system but it is incredibly wastefull and misused. Interesting video. Best wishes Andy. Your Christmas tree display looks very festive!

Hi Andy, thank you for sharing. I have heard that universal healthcare is not perfect but it's a safety net for folks. Sadly, we do not have that here in the states. I love decorating for the holiday! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and your family! 🎀

Still better than what we have here, it is a for-profit system, think of when you take your car to a dishonest mechanic.

I wanted to retire sooner but, worked until 65 to get Medicare. What surprised me about Medicare was how little they pay providers. If providers billed everyone at Medicare rates, self coverage would be possible for many more people.

Hi Keith, thanks for sharing. Have you heard of something that is called the FIRE movement? It stands for Financial Independence, Retire Early and health insurance is one of the major reasons why people cannot retire early. Sorry to hear that Medicare pays very little. I was not aware of that but I'm not surprised. I hope there will be healthcare reform and a look at the current system because it's not working well. Happy Holidays.

Hate to pop your bubble on Christmas, but if you, or your husband, were to have a medical emergency that was reason for long term care and impaired your ability to work in your current position, the benefits your health insurance covers, would not be enough and given the right circumstances you'd find yourself eventually filing for bankruptcy. You get x amount for a hospital stay of x days after that you're not covered. Pre-approval may be needed for EMERGENCY care and the delay could cause death or additional expensive care. Insurance only covers 80% (if you can afford that high premium) so you're on the hook for the 20%. There goes any savings you have and probably some of your 401K. One medical emergency is all it takes. And if you get denied any coverage, say goodbye to everything you've managed to accumulate through your hard work and pray it doesn't mean you have to sell both cars. Health insurance in this country is a scam.

Hi there, I'm not sure if you watched the entire video but I mentioned that the number one reason for bankruptcy in America is due to medical bills. Unfortunately the scenario you mentioned is something that many Americans have gone through because of a medical emergency or accident. Happy Holidays.

healthcare access in the US is controlled by insurance gompanies that make more money by blocking access to healthcay. that's the problem in a nutshell

Hi Gary, yes, it is very sad and unfortunate that health insurance companies make more money by delaying and denying claims. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! 🎀

Need a revolution to replace the current duopoly political system controlled by political donators, and then nationalise healthcare in whole US, create a NHS in US. With 16% of GDP, it is financially total viable.

It's unfortunate that this is the state of things in the USA. The status quo benefits the people who are reaping the benefits, so it will be interesting to see what happens in the next months and years. Hoping that there will be positive change for everyday Americans. Happy Holidays.
