I've been harvesting Paw Paw's for years. Love to freak out the rich tourists on kayak tours by showing them and discussing the glorious fruit! Tennessee creeks are chock full of paw paws.

Paw Paw's are delicious! When your in the Appalachian Mountains during this time of the year they grow all over the place in the woods but primarily a creek will be close. Great snack when hiking. Thanks for the upload and sharing!

A man detecting on the East end of Folly Island at Charleston SC dug up a cannon this morning. Same general area that a tropical storm uncovered a stack of cannon balls several years ago. They put up Police tape. They will probably call in someone to remove it like they did the cannon balls.

My husband and I raise PawPaws in Rhode Island. They do well here in Southern RI, close to the ocean. The Colonists wiped them out here when they cut down all the forests for farmland. We started with small trees from a friend and mail ordered others. The seeds must be kept damp prior to planting. Maybe we will bring some to the Pound the Ground Adirondack hunt in October. Hope to see you there!

Chig - I love them too and cannot wait until they are ripe every year! Mid-Ohio Valley ones taste like a cross between bananas and oranges & sometimes just super sweet mangoes that smell so rich and fruity it is hard to believe. Native Americans and early settlers in the Mid-Ohio Valley ate them and used them in the process to make jerky.

I have never in my life heard so much about pawpaws since I subscribed to your channel a year and a half ago. Nor have I ever eaten a pawpaw but do remember a childhood song.
    “Paw-Paw Patch
Where, oh where, oh where is Susie?
Where, oh where, oh where is Susie?
Where, oh where, of where is Susie?
Way down yonder in the paw-paw patch.
    Chorus:
Picking up paw-paws; put 'em in a basket.
Picking up paw-paws; put 'em in a basket.
Picking up paw-paws;put 'em in a basket.
Way down yonder in the paw-paw patch.
Come along, boys, and let's go find her.
Come along, boys, and let's go find her.
Come along, boys, and let's go find her.
Way down yonder in the paw-paw patch”
I think all of us sang this song in south central Ontario Canada never knowing what a pawpaw was!
Thanks Beau for giving meaning to this song sung so long ago.

Chigg, do a pawpaw compilation with the number of times you said pawpaws. Kind of like the "so" thing a while back. LOL. Great insight and adventure.

I live in North East Florida also in a rural area I have never seen a pawpaw in the woods in this area either. I wonder if I scattered pawpaw seeds close to the St. Johns river if they would grow. I would love to try. Chigg would you be willing to share some seeds?

York, Pennsylvania has a PawPaw festival this weekend. There are a few orchards in the area starting to cultivate them and there are nurseries selling saplings. We are going Saturday for some.

They are found in abundance in Indiana, Kentucky & Tennessee..They are called the Indiana Banana. They are made into pies & breads.. The Native Americans ate them. You will find trees planted around older homes. Just like you find hickory, walnut & persimmon trees.

What critters, besides humans and raccoons might you meet gathering paw paws? Can you take them home and cook with them?

A Havaheart trap can be baited w Peanut Butter or Cat food etc .
(Tuna fish Oil is irresistible; eat ur self a TF sandwich as only the Oil is needed ; dribble a trail of the oil leading to intended trap )
Works on Foxes too ; catch & relocate to a Safer rural setting away from ur chickens etc if Near ur home .
