*Correction* The illustrations in the Sakura Wars design document are actually drawn by Yoshiteru Tsujino's wife Misa Yanagisawa, who was one of the game's Sub Character Designers. She sadly passed away in 2011 (source: twitter.com/keke_094/status/1206857259591979009).
This whole channel is a hidden gold mine. For such niche games, the quality is off the charts, with a great mysterious atmosphere that complements the topics perfectly. The videos are highly rewatchable too. You clearly put a lot of effort on these vids, and it shows. Even if you don't make new videos, I'll still revisit this channel from time to time, but I really hope you do make new ones. Thank you for making highly entertaining and informative videos on some of my favorite genres :)
You're so underrated great job I enjoyed this and learned a lot since I only watched the anime and played a bit of the fir5game but I never knew it was this popular in Japan. 👍💖
I am russian. I still can't understand how we got that official translation. It is so surreal. I never played that series before, but i am very interested now.
Amazing video, I love this series so much, I wish Sega gave it the attention it deserves in the west, I would buy localized ports of Sakura Wars 1-4 in a heartbeat even if I already played them with a translation guide This video deserves more views and your channel more subs, keep it up
There are also some references in Yakuza 7 Like a Dragon, in this game there is building who looks very similar to Imperial Teather from Sakura Wars, there is also Quiz with Sakura Wars questions, and there is also waepon for Bodyguard class called ,,Sakura Storm'' which looks odly similar to (new) Sakura's katana. No wonder, because Nagoshi developed Shin Sakura Wars and Yakuza 7 in the same time.
i did own the wii game never beat it but did really like it. one super small detail i remember being really impressed by was in the first chapter you meet this girl and you have a choice of a few things to tell her what's wrong one of them is something like "my boss is really mean to me." and she'll be sympathetic but then several chapters later as we get to know this girl it turns out her uncle is your boss and if you tell her that and you told her earlier how your boss was mean to you, she actually remembers and you lose points with her
Sakura Wars series seems very interesting. Too bad we never got it here in the west. But I am still thankful that there are always people dedicated to fan translations and trough which we are able to enjoy this unforgetable classics. Btw., also that opening song is just so good! Feels almost somehow nostalgic, where you could here that kind of music more often during the 90's, not so much today.
Very smart of Sega to tie a manga artist that's known in the west to help sell the reboot game overseas, sadly I don't think this franchise will ever reach the levels of popularity it garnered in japan.
I swear, this franchise is cursed when it comes to getting a western release. if it isn't the console being too old or backstage beef between the company and the western distributors, it's Sony of America being idiots and even when it finally gets a western release with Sakura Wars V, it ends up not meeting the sells target.
NIS seems to always be involved with terrible translations one way or another ( Ys Lacrimosa, the controversy over changes on Trails of Cold Steel III once they inherited the series localization from XSEED, and Ar Tonelico, which I remember, its a GUST franchise, and most of their release were done by NISA until Koei Tecmo bough them,.affecting their relationship with the Neptunia Franchise and collaborations with Idea Factory )

This is an amazing video , thanks for uploading such informative video.
I was told by a japanese friend that Sakura Wars back then was like the K-ON! of its age when it comes to popularity.
Thank you for bringing some light on this almost perfect series!

16:18 Sony America, it was a cancer even this far back huh...

Nowadays, you got it!
Did you know Sakura Wars has references in the Global version of Phantasy Star Online 2? Took a very long time for that game to come to the west too.

My heart hurts for the rejected translations
Especially from Sony ...
Sakura Wars 1 for the Saturn now has an English translation patch!

Underrated
Keep it up. Subbed, liked. Big up from USA, good luck there.
well that connection with tengai makyou makes a lot of sense if you think about it, and Koh-ran best girl!
Tengai Makyou was like the ultimate wish-list for english translations back in the early 2000's. Red was the SHIT back in the 90's, haha.
Good work soldier!
Dank video duder.
Segata Sanshiro is a play off Sugata Sanshiro (judo fighter in a japanese book, adapted into a film by Akira Kurosawa)?
Correct me if I'm incorrect.
Damn good presentation might i add.
What a name.
(Channel name)
oh so that's why the new sakura wars anime lost me... it's a reboot?
