    I had the earlier generation of this flashlight at my hip for about 3 years. Held up great: Water, dairy, dirt, oil, drops. I lost it today. Felt like kid who lost his toy. But I guess that goes to show how well they’re built.
    The magnetic charge is my favorite feature. Keeps all the gunk off it to keep it going. The thing did get hot sometimes but it was a fair trade because it was light and compact at my hip. Great design. Gonna have to buy a replacement if I can’t find it soon.

    Still have the s2r baton 2 in my pocket from almost 3 years ago. Beat to hell, cracked lens and all. Just ordered this one, but if that sensor is anything like the perun I have I'll be returning to buy another old model. Since it is the absolute best for me, tail switches and external USB plugs are a huge no go for what I do. Toughest flashlights I have ever owned though, I'll give em that. Just wish battery's in general lasted longer before needing to be replaced, I have been using stream light USB rechargable 18650s lately.

    A good video! I'm enjoying your channel since discovering it through the EDC collab series. I think you have some good points about the light and the proprietary charging has a lot of benefits, but does come with a the obvious downsides.
    One thing I wanted to just point out for balance purposes though is the reality of ownership, what I mean is it's easy for people to actually have multiple cables and chargers, simply by having other Olight products. If you only buy the one light and don't intend to purchase any charging accessories, like the Oport and Omino, then yes the single cable is an issue. However, if you have more lights you sort of just accumulate cables, like how everyone had a micro USB cable in every draw at one point. This doesn't have to be through buying a whole bunch of stuff, simply upgrading lights adds cables, and if you bought Obulbs for kids/moodlighting etc. well... cables galore!
    Just wanted to add that thought as it's a common criticism, and a valid one, but the realities of ownership tend to naturally mitigate it for a lot of people.

    • @OddBall1997
      @OddBall1997 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Piggybacking a bit on your point, I'd like to add that the cable has a 1 year warranty (as I recall).
      With as aggressive as Olight's marketing is, combined with giveaways that adds a better chance that people will have purchased more lights before long.
      I'm also starting to wonder if they might finally add high CRI to their NW emitters, which will drive more cables into hands.

    • @gearedforward
      @gearedforward ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OddBall1997 Good points, it's really easily to accumulate a lot of cables, and if you need a spare one the cost is mostly negated by new-user coupons anyway.
      I only have one NW Olight, I prefer CW for lights personally, but the colour seems nice. Granted, I'm not the market for those kind of tints, so not the best judge.

    • @OddBall1997
      @OddBall1997 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gearedforward Thinking about it, there's still a decent amount of proprietary chargers out there... I wonder what people would think when they realize smartwatches have crazy expensive chargers? 🤔 Shoot, even phone cables frequently cost more... Granted they work with more stuff.
      I find people's different preferences in temperature rather fascinating, even in the "hardcore" crowd that's typically 2-3k.
      There is a video that I like from Technology Connections where he talks about LED replacements for traditional street lights.
      While it's not directly a flashlight video, I find the reasoning and comparisons between WW and CW bulbs really neat.

    • @gearedforward
      @gearedforward ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OddBall1997 Yeah it's a little frustrating seeing it be a common criticism for Olight when it's hardly unique to them and it comes with significant benefit!
      My i5T Plus is 4-5k, i have a NW Nitecore as well but I personally like CW for torches as I want them as bright as can be. Better CRI and tint is more for lanterns imo, even with a horrible blue-tinged LED I couldn't imagine a situation where colour rendering would have been an issue really. Then again you always get aspects of a hobby where people will congregate to... get a bit snobby I guess, like in knives it's blade steel, but in reality the differences don't make material difference in most user's lives.

    • @OddBall1997
      @OddBall1997 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gearedforward For Black Friday I was planning on getting the Skilhunt M150 to upgrade from my i5T (EOS). The magnetic charging (sound familiar?) was one of the things I was looking forward to due to safety issues with pulling out batteries, as well as all the people talking about gaskets falling out of USB lights.
      While looking at the Baton 3 Pro I came to realize it fit my needs a little bit better than the M150, and for BF/CM they were the same price. While I was looking forward to the LH351D in the M150, the output and bonkers runtimes of the Baton's 18650 just couldn't be looked past. I've encountered a need for more output than what the i5T gives me, so that tipped the scales.
      Personally I am loving the NW Baton over my CW i5T, and while the tint does bother me a tad on both, I still think I chose correctly in ignoring the CRI in the M150.
      Another one of those things that bugs people is bezel up carry.
      I've discovered I actually LIKE that because I can confirm at a glance that my light isn't attempting to start a miniature campfire in my pocket.
      I saw somebody mention that Hank lights are the same price as Olights. While that may be true, Olights come with batteries and chargers while Hanks don't...🤔

    I would love to have a real switch to go through the lighting modes like the drive mode switch on the Leica M240, preferrably on the back of the torch. Add a tail switch to quickly turn it on plus USB-C charging and I'd buy at least one in an instant.

My favorite should have been the interesting S15R but sadly it had reliability issues. Before that I was used to the twist of mini maglite so the button placement is good enough (I would not use a tail switch) if you loose the proprietary charger you still have to option to charge the battery in a charger, it's a 18650 right ?

      No, there is not a lot of Candelas. That's for casual EDC or exploration. Not good for self defense or tactical use

      @@parkerluciani7048 What are you talking about? Neither of the lights mentioned are high candela... both have the same use case and practically the same output... Neither are "tactical" lights.
      Frankly, no flashlight is actually a good self defense tool... but as far as a light can be a deterrent, anything of relatively high lumen output could. The two lights mentioned have essentially the same lumen output and as such would serve that function equally.

    No tactical switch. 1500 lumens turbo will get hot really fast. Wasted component in my view. Anything more than 600 lumens and heat gets in the way. 600 lumens is just right for brightness. My flashlight is a Surefire 600 lumen, mine being the version before the GX2. I've had it for years working as a night security guard. "123" batteries last about 2 months. Recharging is a pain in my opinion. Fair video, nothing special.

      I have the same light, I love it. Reliable and it does the job. However the cost of use is rough when you factor in all those batteries you gotta keep buying to operate the light. It’s gonna hit my drawer for emergency use only or as a spare.

    I think it is a toy for people who like collecting flashlights and do not use them. Acrylic tir lens, proprietary battery, proprietary charger.
