Sometimes organizations that house homeless people try to also have activities for them, especially if they have kids there. So you could find an organization that would welcome craft projects so they can have a craft activity.
You can see if your local jail needs yarn if you can't sell it all. Sometimes jails have programs where the inmates crochet items for charity using donated yarn. Oftentimes they'll make blankets and hats for babies in hospitals, or for unhoused adults
I appreciate the fact that you uploaded this regardless of being embarrased of the amount of yarn. I think many people can relate to this and maybe get motivated to get rid of unnecessary yarn & start buying less excessive yarn in the future!
Please don’t feel pressure to make content that is interesting for us, we love to watch you no matter what u are doing!!! Also I would love a series of scrap yarn videos 🫶🏽🫶🏽
This hit a lot of personal notes and parallels with a few of my experiences as a fiber crafter, and as a cleaner. It's great that you identified the issue and began to tackle it. I've seen what moth damage has done to finished items and yarn that sat for years, it's one of the worst feelings in the world. There's still a lot of yarn I have to organize, and to make it fun I've decided to knit some dolls clothes for my niece. If you also want to try and wind balls neatly without a winder, you can use a cardboard tube with a slit cut lengthwise at one end. For balls that are mostly intact, wind the yarn around diagonally.
@@ikoxunI think it is to hold the end of the yarn in place, so you can have a middle pull. I was recently bought a winder and it also has a slit in the centre to hold the first tail of the yarn for a middle pull.
Regarding making donations of your yarn…two ideas are to donate to youth organizations that do arts and crafts…same thing with seniors centers. They would love receiving your donation’s. I just purchased more yarn because of a fabulous sale I couldn’t pass up on the redheart bitty yarn. I really want to put myself on a yarn buying ban. I make a lot of blankets, scarf and hats to donate to help use up my yarn. I just completed blankets for the Boggy Creek Organization in Florida. Another idea to use your scraps would be to do a scrappy project series on a continual basis. It would also help to give others ideas for scrap projects. I really want to say thank you for this video… it’s cause me to do some self reflecting…now feeling guilty about the yarn I just ordered a couple days ago. Don’t feel bad…there are many of us that are in your same situation. Stay safe and be blessed ❤🤗🧶
I started a moon blanket two years ago and well....It's still unfinished under my chair 😂 I ended up turning it into a scrap yarn blanket but I havent added to it in a long time. maybe it's time to get back on it? 🤔
I had to organize my stash too the other day and the thing i found most useful for organizing is those clear storage bins you can get from Ikea. They’re stackable and clear so you know which bin is which and keeps the yarn dust free! I had my yarn out in the open and they collected dust over time so i needed a storage pin to keep them safe. Also a skien winder is a must! Storing yarn cakes is so much easier and it takes a less space. Here's to not spending as much money on yarn in 2025 🥲🥂
omg the next time i'm able to , i'll get some of those bins from ikea 🥺 thank you for the recommendations + i'm def investing in a yarn winder very soon
I would love more scrap yarn video's! I just cleaned out all my yarn too and was about as embarrassed as you were. I guess I'm trying to say: you're not alone! Thank you for the inspiration and motivation ❤
omg please don’t be embarrassed! i just organized my stash as well and it was immensely humbling lol i thought it was under control and then i pulled it all out and seeing it piled up made me embarrassed as well. but it’s a blessing that we’re in a spot where we can buy yarn. yes, conscious buying is very important but acknowledging that is the first step. i hope you’re able to get to a better place where you’re happier with your stash and not feeling as guilty about it. because at the end of the day, crafting is supposed to bring us joy. that’s what i’m hoping for all of us this year
I think a cool idea that you can use with the yarn is make hats, blankets or scarves for women’s shelters. Also there’s this second hand craft store in my local area, it’s called Upcycle Arts, that takes donations for yarn, paint supplies and other craft supplies, so that may be a possible option as well. Love your recreation videos!
was going straight to your Depop to buy some yarn and noticed everything is sold already! I'm upset i couldn't get any but very happy you got to get rid of all the excess yarn so you don't have to stress!
I’m working on a scrappy granny square blanket, to get through my stash. There’s a lot of charities that take items, my favorite is Knit the Rainbow for LGBTQ kids made homeless but there’s unlimited options, you can likely find a local place as well and local yarn stores often participate in different charities. I would suggest choosing one that suits your yarn stash/type of yarn you are working with.
There is nothing wrong with having a lot of yarn it can be overwhelming though so I completely understand your emotions Do what you can we will still be here supporting! 🥰
January is a great time to get sales on clear stacking storage bins at stores like Target. I like them because you can easily see the colors and weights of yarn inside. Also it’s a finite space so when it’s full you know not to buy any more of that color/weight until you use up that yarn. It makes it easier to plan projects around the colors you own before buying new ones. Another tip to cut down on over buying is to get 2 gallon ziplock bags and put all the yarn needed for a project, along with the pattern or project idea description sheet in the closed bag ( you can even make it air tight by squeezing it). Set yourself a limit on how many project bags you will allow and then stick to either finishing it or selling/donating the yarn project bag.
one thing that always helps me with not buying too much yarn is shopping irl instead of online. it makes it more of an experience that i value more than "consuming online" if that makes sense
this is literally exactly what i needed omg!! ive been trying to organize my yarn but i have a hard time bc all the videos abt it are like “organizing my HUGE yarn stash!!” and it’s like a 1/4 of my yarn so i’m so haooy i finally have someone who has the same amount as me trying to destash:)
Please don't be embarrassed by your yarn! You have a serious passion for crochet and knitting, and you didn't do this out of a malicious desire or anything. That, and nothing that you found was incapable of being used by you or anyone else. I'm so eager to see what you do for a scrappy project.
Your energy is so welcoming, any content would be nice to watch, istg if you made a video just winding those yarns into cakes that be so satisfying 🫠 I wanted to buy a winder myself but it's kinda expensive here.
I love your videos SO MUCH. I'm a fellow crocheter/knitter and I watch your videos CONSTANTLY while working on pieces. This one has honestly been really really good and I've loved watching this while working on my current project!
I wish I was there to help you, I would roll up every ball for you, and you could just put them in colour batches, I’m there in spirit. I have the very same “issues” darling girl, creative people are all the same, a little messy, we just want to start the next project.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤Darling, you have said out loud what a lot of us keep hidden. Keep going, yes and don’t put any pressure on yourself, why we do that I don’t know, I’m 75 and believe me, at this age I can say all that self talk in my head was for nothing, relax and keep it simple, you are adorable and I wouldn’t like to see you burn out.🥰
I love scrap yarn projects, since I am facing a similar problem! Mine might be in a smaller dimension, but in the past I've bought a lot of single skeins of special yarn, never enough for an actual project and it is just laying around atp. Your thoughts on being more sustainable with buying new yarn are great :)
Ooo I would love to see you make some blankets especially since you have so many colors and weights so u can make different designs and textures I think that would be cool
Looking on the bright side, you're kind of lucky to have the problem of too much yarn lol Also, my library recently used donated yarn to help people learn a craft project, and seniors homes sometimes take donations. You might find someone asking for some on your local paper/social media site too
Hello, Ikoxun. I absolutely love your channel! The content you present is beautiful. You're truly a talented young lady! 👏🏾 I think that donating yarn to a few organizations is a wonderful idea! I'd like to know if you think you'd sell more of the yarn/items that you don't donate. You are my favorite Fiber Artistry Creator and I wish you much success! ❤
I reorgenized my yarn just a few days ago and it felt so good to have colors sorted together again. Scrap yarn projects would be fun. you also could make more of these spring/ autmn or some special kind of clothing style challenge videos and make as an extra challenge to just use the yarn you have to hand, especially if you don´t use the colors often, so stuff is gone but you still have a challenge video and nice new stuff in your wardrobe.
When I went through my yarn, I ended up donating a good bit of it to the local senior center. My grandma goes there and I know they had a knitting and Crochet club. I asked them and they were so happy to take it. They use the yarn to donate hats and make stuff for babies and cute stuff like that. 🫶🏽🩷
One of my goals for this year too is to stop buying so much yarn just because its pretty. I want to thin out my stash by either donating or finding projects that excite me with the yarn I already do have. This year I plan to shop more local small yarn stores and buy more natural fibers!
if you're donating yarn, i would recommend donating to places that know what they're doing rather than thrift stores. some libraries host crafting circles or lessons, there are probably charities in your area that make items for babies (ask if any of the yarn you have works for them!), etc... places that actually do activities around yarn and know what it is and how it can be used. as for content, i would say you're doing fine, don't worry about always doing special videos or challenges. this channel is about crafting and making what you love, isn't it? then do that, whatever it is! a lot of the channels i watch for knitting or crochet just do videos or updates on their projects, little podcasts about their progress, etc... this is just a giant stitch and bitch! we don't need tv production caliber, week-long challenges to like hanging out with you!
Don’t be embarrassed girly. That is an Awesome collection and great job organizing them. I’m definitely going to buy some yarn if it isn’t already sold out lol. I want to start knitting after crocheting. Would you make a knitting sweater tutorial? I’d love to have one made by you top down. Ur my favorite TH-camr right now with your content being so engaging and inspiring to start my own channel. Thank you and keep up the amazing work! ❤❤❤❤
I’m so stupid you’ve already made many tutorials 😂 I’d love to see some styling content ur taste is so cute and unique! Pinterest board dreams irl! ❤❤❤
Thank you for showing us this video!! I completely relate to having a HUGE pile of craft supplies, (For me it's yarn and jewelry supplies lol ) Went to your Depop and all of it has sold!! Can't wait to see what else you make + thanks for the cleaning inspiration!!
That is a decent amount of yarn, but I suspect it's a pretty typical amount. I am not sure how much yarn I really have, because it's located in various baskets, totes, and bags around the house. It is so satisfying to get things organized!
I have accumulated a very large yarn stash as well and my only serious goal for 2025 is to use my stash up. I am on my second stash busting blanket and I'm so happy to see the space I've already made working towards my goal. Also, if you have a knitting machine, you can crank out some beanies to donate to your local shelters or homeless organizations. they're always grateful.
I felt like this when I was moving and realized I had so much hobby stuff it was ridiculous and overwhelming. I ended up mailing some out to discord friends!
In my area there’s a thrift store specifically for craft supplies and they also have a program for refugee woman to use the donations to make and sell things so you could see if there’s something like that around you!
Bought some yarn! I love Big Twist and I was so happy to see you had some on your Depop!! Happy New Year! I’m so inspired to clean up my stash ( even though I just added more 😂)
Your scrap yarn videos are usually very fun to watch, so I think more of those would be fun! Also maybe a challenge where you combine different yarn thicknesses in one project? I have no idea how that would work so I'm curious what your take on it would be :) Could be useful too for people who have many different yarn thicknesses in their stash and to avoid buying new yarns with the same thickness as the one you're trying to finish! Good luck on your de-yarning journey!
literally just went through this yesterday🥹i have so much yarn but i always want to buy specific yarn for specific projects, i finally got to organize most of my yarn yesterday but i still have a lot to go through. There are some good yarn winders on amazon that aren’t too expensive! I personally wind all of my worsted weight yarn into cakes with the winder, and wind any larger plush yarn by hand. Can’t wait to see your projects for 2025🩷
I also have a ton of scrap yarn like you, I decided to make a connect-as-you-go linen stitch checkered blanket out of all my scrap yarn and it's honestly been so therapeutic seeing my piles of yarn disappear and turn into a blanket! :) I'm also rolling a D20 for each sqaure that corresponds to each color so I don't have to overthink it
this may be unique to my area but the senior center near me has a group of very talented fiber arts ladies that make things like hats and scarves to donate to hospitals and shelters, they take donations for skeins all the time ! if there is something like that in your area it might be worth checking out :)
I actually subscribed because of the color challenge videos. Something you could do is more of those, maybe even with the same color in a different theme. The color challenge videos were helpful for me in finding uses for scrap yarn (ex. Long skirt)
There's no need to feel embarrassed. Yarn is addictive. It's hard to not buy it. I should know. I have a whole yarn store in my apartment lol Good luck!
It's been a while since I commented on one of your videos but wow, that's a lot of yarn 🧶 😮, happy to know it's been organised and you can walk in your closet again. I'm sure you'll definitely find somewhere to sell it. I'd buy some from you but I live in Europe 😭. Also definitely take a break you deserve it. 👑Stay Cool Queen 👑
But but but you can never have too much yarn 😢 Seriously tho, your closet looks much more organized and useable now 👏 I agree with the others, it’s just fun seeing what you’re making, it doesn’t have to be anything out of the ordinary. I love seeing makes if all kinds.
Add a monthly or bimonthly stash buster challenge! Maybe having it as a challenge will help you mentally motivate to manage the ever growing project. I know I personally would love to see some stash buster projects!
Thanks for the video and I love helping some seniors with learning to crochet at my home so let me know where you’re selling your yarn I will share with those in our group ❤thanks againJoy
You realize we would LOVE seeing videos about how you go through your stash, right? Let your partner grab some random yarns and show us how you would combine them to make something with. Choose a couple of yarns, put them in a wheel and spin the wheel. Then spin another wheel with random project ideas. Combine both and make a video out of it. Color challenges solely with your stash yarn. There is so much you can do with the yarn you have and we will enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed your content so far! Think out of the box this year. We are not going anywhere.
For some ideas of where you can take your yarn I would look for craft supply thrift stores in your area. Also you can look for any local yarn stores that have a “free little yarn library” much like the “free little libraries” that you can find around. Maybe selling your yarn on depop could be an idea as well.
Ooh, I would love that Peacock white fluffy yarn. But I'm old. I don't DPop or Venmo or PayPal or Bitcoin or Facebook or Etsy or Instagram or any other electronic commerce exchange. Surprised I even know that many terms... Good luck in your yarn endeavors.
Please make a yarn buster series where you work through your stash! I’m trying not to buy any yarn this year until I finish everything I have in my collection too.
I have a lot of yarn too that I'm trying to get rid of! Especially synthetic fibers... I'm going to watch some of your scrap yarn videos for inspiration, maybe i can reduce my "collection"!
This week I saw a post on reddit recommending hair clips to keep the end stuck to a ball of yarn and prevent unravelling! The curve of the clip makes it fit the shape of the ball. Maybe someone could use that tip :)
You could donate yarn to local nursing homes. There’s residents who crochet or knit but probably can’t access and/or afford to purchase yarn. Same for homeless shelters I imagine.
Great vid! Another idea for a donation place would be any knit or crochet based charities in your community. There's a group that meets at my local library that crochets granny squares and makes them into blankets for shelters, retirement homes, newborns, and babies and children in rural communities. It's also a great space to spend time crocheting and chatting with other lovely crafters ^_^
I would love to see videos about using only yarn from your stash out of the ones you keep from this! I have way too big of a stash too, and i have been trying my best to use as much stash yarn instead of getting more and its prettu satisfying to use a yarn ive had in my stash for over a year lol. Someone told me that group homes for kids and teens are good places to see if they will take yarn and activity donations. He said that he learned crochet while there and it really helped him stay sane and keep his hands busy. Could be worth a shot to reach out?
We have a little shop in our town (Altadena, CA) called Remainders that accepts partially used or scraps of all kinds of art supplies so that other fellow artists can use the scraps or unwanted supplies in their own projects. Our school teachers love to visit that shop. Maybe you have a place like that in your area to give your yarn to.
Last year I did a semi major destash particularly of yarn and fibres I had accumulated over years and knew I wouldn't use - a lot of acrylic I donated or sold mixed bags of yarn on Facebook marketplace as job lots. I couldn't find local charities that specifically took yarn, but I know in the UK there are breast cancer charities that make "knitted knockers" for charity! I wonder if there's any organisations like that near you!
Sometimes organizations that house homeless people try to also have activities for them, especially if they have kids there. So you could find an organization that would welcome craft projects so they can have a craft activity.
i’ll look into this!! thank you :)
That is an awesome suggestion😊🌎🇦🇺🩷
Honestly if your worried about making content we like, don't. If you focused on what you wanted to make I would still happily watch
You can see if your local jail needs yarn if you can't sell it all. Sometimes jails have programs where the inmates crochet items for charity using donated yarn. Oftentimes they'll make blankets and hats for babies in hospitals, or for unhoused adults

girl we need a scrap yarn series!!!! love your videos btw youre so talented :)
I love it when people make dedicated scrap yarn projects and you have great fashion sense so don’t be afraid to make what you love!
Please don’t feel pressure to make content that is interesting for us, we love to watch you no matter what u are doing!!! Also I would love a series of scrap yarn videos 🫶🏽🫶🏽

@@ikoxunI think it is to hold the end of the yarn in place, so you can have a middle pull. I was recently bought a winder and it also has a slit in the centre to hold the first tail of the yarn for a middle pull.
Yup! It holds the end that will be the center pull!

A temperature blanket and/or a mood scarf over the year/month might help, you could also do a monthly update on them

I know some areas have craft supplies resale shop, you could try one of those! Or see if a library or rec center could use some yarn for a program
Also there might be tool libraries that could take some for the locals/ community.
I rarely comment but I gotta say from what I’ve seen of you I feel like you’re such a good-hearted person❤️
I wish I was there to help you, I would roll up every ball for you, and you could just put them in colour batches, I’m there in spirit. Definitely went through my yarn twice after we moved a bit ago! Really trying to use what I have as well!
I LOVE scrap projects! Go for it!
Great video! Assisted living facilities and schools sometimes take yarn for arts and crafts activities.
i totally relate to this, I have built up messes from trying so many different crafts 😭😭 great job with this!

Some nursing homes would love it . The Seniors can use it on crafting day.😊

You can take it to a craft reuse center. In Atlanta, there's one called Scrap ATL that takes donations of yarn at two different locations!
That is a decent amount of yarn, but I suspect it's a pretty typical amount. I am not sure how much yarn I really have, because it's located in various baskets, totes, and bags around the house. It is so satisfying to get things organized!
My town has a secondhand craft store! You can take leftover craft materials, including yarn, and drop it off there.
Knitting/crocheting and yarn collecting are 2 different hobbies. Simple. Embrace both.
:) I'm also rolling a D20 for each sqaure that corresponds to each color so I don't have to overthink it
I make beautiful scrap blankets and give them to friends and family. I really love them and I’m using up my stash
this may be unique to my area but the senior center near me has a group of very talented fiber arts ladies that make things like hats and scarves to donate to hospitals and shelters, they take donations for skeins all the time ! if there is something like that in your area it might be worth checking out :)
You may want to check with retirement homes in your area - sometimes they'll take yarn for the older folks to use. ☺️
More ikoxun!!! Yay!!
But but but you can never have too much yarn 😢
Seriously tho, your closet looks much more organized and useable now 👏
I agree with the others, it’s just fun seeing what you’re making, it doesn’t have to be anything out of the ordinary.
I love seeing makes if all kinds.
Add a monthly or bimonthly stash buster challenge! Maybe having it as a challenge will help you mentally motivate to manage the ever growing project. I know I personally would love to see some stash buster projects!
A couple of ideas for donating yarn is nursing home(s), local library that may have a crochet group, local school, or low-income housing in your area.
GM 🌻 blessings 🙏🏾🫶🏾 and crocheting 🧶👍🏾
Thanks for the video and I love helping some seniors with learning to crochet at my home so let me know where you’re selling your yarn I will share with those in our group ❤thanks againJoy
I sell it on depop ! My username is @xmitae (:
You realize we would LOVE seeing videos about how you go through your stash, right?
Let your partner grab some random yarns and show us how you would combine them to make something with.
Choose a couple of yarns, put them in a wheel and spin the wheel. Then spin another wheel with random project ideas. Combine both and make a video out of it.
Color challenges solely with your stash yarn.
There is so much you can do with the yarn you have and we will enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed your content so far! Think out of the box this year. We are not going anywhere.
The casual overconsumerism in Ameruca is beyond crazy
For some ideas of where you can take your yarn I would look for craft supply thrift stores in your area. Also you can look for any local yarn stores that have a “free little yarn library” much like the “free little libraries” that you can find around. Maybe selling your yarn on depop could be an idea as well.
Check out your local library. A lot have donation based yarn libraries or have crafting programs that may love a big donation.
Omg my yarn collection is like this too!! I’m motivated to organize mine now❤
Please make a yarn buster series where you work through your stash!
I love ALL THAT YOU DO
Absolutely love your videos. I wish I had not even half of your collection 😊
This week I saw a post on reddit recommending hair clips to keep the end stuck to a ball of yarn and prevent unravelling! The curve of the clip makes it fit the shape of the ball. Maybe someone could use that tip :)
that is a useful tip! thank you for sharing :)
Heyyyyy!!! ⭐
hii :)
We have a little shop in our town (Altadena, CA) called Remainders that accepts partially used or scraps of all kinds of art supplies so that other fellow artists can use the scraps or unwanted supplies in their own projects. Our school teachers love to visit that shop. Maybe you have a place like that in your area to give your yarn to.
lezgooo early gang~
You are very right because I have to do the same thing as you have to do
Last year I did a semi major destash particularly of yarn and fibres I had accumulated over years and knew I wouldn't use - a lot of acrylic I donated or sold mixed bags of yarn on Facebook marketplace as job lots. I couldn't find local charities that specifically took yarn, but I know in the UK there are breast cancer charities that make "knitted knockers" for charity! I wonder if there's any organisations like that near you!
That cut away to you being buried in the yarn really got me 😂😂😂
I have a huge yarn collection I need to get organized and taken care of. Now someone tell me WHY I was about to go to your depop to buy more yarn. 😂
LOL noooo organize your yarn first!!
I have an idea for your scrap yarns. You can make a yinyang inspired circular rug , all dark colors on one side and light colors on the other.
Oh also assisted living facilities will take second hand yarn as well.
You could maybe donate to penitentiaries as well.
Good job sweetheart 🥰
Yes the new vid
Watching this I feel like I need to go through my yarn to see what I even have
I would be happy if I had that much yarn!!!!!!
color challange but with only yarn you own and strict no buy challenges would be fun too
