Curious as to why the pad was needed and if it was a wedge pad thanks gob

It looks like the horse has thin soles and not much frog so the pad and dental impression material could be for added frog pressure in addition to add depth of sole to protect from injury .. not to mention a missing chunk of hoof on the lateral side of the right front... not positive tho.
