I'm jealous. I've been wanting to get some land like that for a long time, but just haven't pulled the trigger on a piece yet. One suggestion from someone that spends a fair amount of time in the Michigan north woods, put a cable across your driveway and put out 'private property-no trespassing' signs or you'll probably get some unwanted visitors. The atv guys love exploring new trails and your drive looks like just another trail.
It’s like a double edge sword. If you put signs they know something is there. If you don’t put signs they’ll probably go there. 🤦♀️ 😂 I live in the country and still never lock our front dooor. Stupid, probably. been here for 23 years and everytime I get new keys and a new lock within 2-3 months we’ve all (me and my two girls) lost our keys and having to climb through the windows to get in (because those aren’t locked either lol). It’s really a shame that the spirit of leaving something as you found it is not too high on the list these days with all the shitty people out there. Burn the whole cabin down is more like it. Maybe it’s diff where she is.
Oh! Brooke, I would get a cheap drone and take pictures from overhead- nice for a visual survey and making yourself a map of your resources/ elevation!
On further reflection, she seems to derive so much enjoyment from hiking through her new property that maybe she wouldn’t want a drone. I would but that’s me : )
I know I am watching this 3 years after it happened however I am so happy and excited for Brooke! I have seen more recent videos of this property and what they have done with it but to see Brooke's face as she explores it for the first time is just priceless! The U.P. is my favorite place in the world, and I can feel her excitement. It is truly a beautiful place! And the BLUEBERRIES!!! YUM!! My favorite! Oh, btw....don't forget your bug spray! :) You can level the 5th wheel down to the frame and build a tiny house on the remaining trailer. Just so you'll know, a lot of the stuff in the inside of that 5th will not burn. I tried it. Didn't work.
Burning many of things that are in that camper is dangerous to you. There are numerous products used in the build of those that burning can release harmful chemicals. The smell of the smoke can make you physically sick. Not to mention if your neighbor called the Fire Dept, you can be arrested for burning some of those materials. A person down the road from me was caught burning trash with tires and some other things in the fire. The Sheriff dept told him he could either put the fire out or let the fire dept do it. The guy hard headed them claiming it was his property and he could do what he wanted. He is/was currently serving jail time. That being said you can do what you want but be prepared in case there are repercussions from your actions.

CONGRATULATIONS!! I guess... You and Bush just roped yourselves into a lot of work. I took on 6 acres of yaupon and pin oak forest in Central Texas when my wife and I retired. Aside from a residential contractor, I had landscape people and dozers and a whole lot of my own labor to chainsaw and burn and chainsaw and burn and brush mow (an annual understory event.) I'm proud to say I achieved a lot of my intentions before worn out joints necessitated moving on.

Are the bugs as bad there ?? I love me some nature. I’ve grown up in the country and when I had kids I moved back to the country. Just the way I like it more cows than people. I know everywhere has their bad times. But holy heck I wouldn’t be able to take the swarms around me all day every day. Don’t even get me started about when she leaves the tent unzipped 😬😂
I picked this one too, the lake was the enticement, alot of thick bush for sure, but think of all the videos u can shoot clearing some out and the shelter builds u can do. It will help you become one with the environment. Finally, be safe and wear goggles and hearing protection when using your chainsaw-accidents can happen quickly!

Hey Brooke a good tip for starting the saw is to place the handle in your Right hand and to pull the starter cord with the Left hand. Just makes it a bit easier as you're throwing down and away and not out and away from yourself. You can also engage the chain brake to make it a bit safer out there:) I worked as a pro for many years and its one of the first things I learned... The ms250 is a nice saw!
Or follow the best procedure and put the rear handle between your legs. Much more control, no need to fling it around. And yes, at least engage the chain brake; it takes no effort and is best practice. And as others have said, PPE? Eye, ear, head, chaps (I prefer saw pants...they're practically stylish!) It only takes 30 seconds to put it all on, you're worth it.

I would have bought the same piece of land EXCEPT I would have made it conditional upon them removing that 5th wheel. Now you either need to burn it or pay to have it hauled off. Enjoy your New Dream , Brooke !!!
@@jedidiah5131 ...not necessarily....sellers were trying to use that 5th wheel as an incentive, a perk, to buy their property. If they really want top $$$ you can insist that closing is conditional upon removal of all trash including that 5th wheel.

CO has beautiful terrain too but there is something special about northern MI and the UP. Your property is so cool! The trailer did give me eeebies too though. Love the canoe cart. Genius. 😂’no wonder there’s bears here’...yep, they have a river, a burrow and blueberries. Nothing else a bear needs.
Always very exciting getting land that hasn't been touch for awhile. We bought land untouched and unrestricted and it's nice to have the Freedom to do whatever you want. Great video and have fun!
I wore my chainsaw pants for 18 years without an incident. Until one day I made a mistake and hit my knee with the running saw. Those pants I never needed for 18 years saved my knee, time off work and a surgery. Worth it. Worth all the extra sweat and heat.

METAL Frame, Aluminum, Wood, Insulation, Vinyl/Plastics are hydrocarbons just don’t breath that.

Remove the propane refrigerator and junk the rest. They are easy to fix up and can put in cabin
Yes and spray the heck out of it with vinegar until you've gotten rid it of any mold.
Take the stove too. I agree with the rest. Get your safety gear AND FILTER MASK! I was half expecting you to go nose to nose with a bear in that den.

@@jedidiah5131 ...not necessarily....sellers were trying to use that 5th wheel as an incentive, a perk, to buy their property. If they really want top $$$ you can insist that closing is conditional upon removal of all trash including that 5th wheel.

CO has beautiful terrain too but there is something special about northern MI and the UP. Your property is so cool! The trailer did give me eeebies too though. Love the canoe cart. Genius.

Always very exciting getting land that hasn't been touch for awhile. We bought land untouched and unrestricted and it's nice to have the Freedom to do whatever you want. Great video and have fun!
2 things. 1- where is your protective gear for the chainsaw run? 2- where is your side arm? Other then that, GREAT FIND AND A GREAT VIDEO.
I wore my chainsaw pants for 18 years without an incident. Until one day I made a mistake and hit my knee with the running saw. Those pants I never needed for 18 years saved my knee, time off work and a surgery. Worth it. Worth all the extra sweat and heat.
Kevlar chaps. Eye protection. Chainsaws eat casualness.
Yep, it's 2019, not many MEN left, but lots of guys with both knee caps though : )
