Nioh - Upgrading my Dual Swords (Soul Matching, Reforging)

- Please note, in the video I'm not soul matching as efficiently as you can. You should really match weapon types of the same level to get a +1 increase. Matching with higher level weapons is a bit of a waste. For a complete comprehensive guide, go here: • Nioh - How to Soul Mat...
Also, when reforging, press triangle on the REFORGE button to switch from Spirit Iron Chunks to Divine Fragments to get a higher chance at a better, rarer roll on your gear.

Aside from the soul matching this was an incredibly well informed video, thank you!
Hit triangle when you're reforging, & it'll allow you to use Divine Fragments in place of the Spirit Chunks at double the cost. Gives you a higher chance to roll the better, purple-tier perks. From my experience, & some Reddit studies I've personally seen that it's almost always worth it to use the fragments in place of the chunks.
Also, great videos Fuzzy, I love what you're doing, thumbnails are really legit, videos are super informative & thorough. You're the kind of TH-camrs we need!
But I am the TH-camr they deserve? Sorry, couldn't help myself.
But great tip. I never knew that and that is awesome to know. I'll add the tip to the description. Thanks again!
You're the chosen one, Hairy! Fuzzy, rather!
No problem, man! Subbed!
xSkai great tip thank you
This video is Fantastic. Soooo many questions now answered! Thanks!
Excellent, thanks. Just make sure you read the description as I am soul matching inefficiently. Match +1's with +1's, +2's with +2's, and so on.
Great tutorial many thanks!
No probs, cheers!
You're doing soulmatch completly wrong...you just burned a couple weapons that should be soulmatched later.
For example, your Dual sword was 150+1, if you want it to be +2, you dont soulmatch it with a +2 weapon, you soulmatch it with another +1 weapon.
If your dual swords are +2, you soulmatch it with another +2 weapon for it to be a +3.
The number goes up if you soulmatch it with the same number or higher.
If your dual swords were 150 +1, if you soulmatch it with a +8, +9 or +10 weapon, the result will be a +2 dual swords.
So you burned higher lvl weapons that should have been soulmatched as a material a lvl after...now you have to farm them again.
I just noticed you wrote that on the description, but im still not deleting this comment cause ppl tend to not read the description xD
Yeah, it's in the description, but like you said, people don't read so it's all good.
Lol was just about to comment on the fact that you were soul matching wrong. On the plus side it's great to see how receptive and open you are to feedback, not naming anyone in particular but many would take constructive criticisism as a blemish on their pride.
Your positive reaction here has earned yourself a sub from me! It seems like you get the fact that TH-cam works best when you work with your community for the benefit of everyone, wish you all the best dude, I'll be watching!

Thanks man, appreciate the comment.

Definitely the most comprehensive vid on the subject. Hope you'll do nioh 2 complete walkthrough. Also some say that elemental attack (earth fire.....) is not that important what do you think?
Thanks! May not get time for a Nioh 2 walkthrough at this point - Ghost of Tsushima is out very, very soon and there's some other games I'm still trying to get to (Remnant: From the Ashes and Zombie Army 4 DLC's as well!). Regarding elements, in Nioh 2 yes, elements on weapons are useful. In Nioh 1, not so much. Waste of a slot in Nioh 1. You're better off using elements via Talisman's in Nioh 1 (my favorite being Earth for ki damage and Water for weakness).
When you're soul matching you only need to put in a same level + to go up a level with that weapon.
Getting your Shishi up to +4 before soul matching with the final weapon would of put your Shishi up to +5 when you finished
Yes, you're right. I have no idea why I thought otherwise. Thanks for your comment!
I've read that damage bonus (less armor) only increases damage if you in fact wear less armor, not wear lighter armor. If so wouldn't that make this bonus of little/no value for this build? I've met a great deal of naked revenants only equipped with a weapon, imagine they are using this. I haven't gotten a weapon worth rerolling with that stat yet so I haven't tested it myself.
Interesting. I can't test right now as my gear isn't leveled again (more build testing). But thanks for the comment - I will definitely put more testing into this.
Okay, just did some testing. What you read is correct, though it isn't as simple as saying if you wear less armor your damage increases. There's a trade off between the perks you lose on your armor, the perks you lose on your set bonuses, and obviously the damage trade-off between simply rolling a different perk on the weapon.
What I found in testing was removing three armor pieces had the biggest gain to increased damage. Removing any more than that showed a loss to damage because of armor perks and armor set bonuses getting removed. I'm still not sure why removing three had a greater gain given doing so lost me some key perks from the Justice Ministry armor set. I guess the hidden bonus caused by the Damage Bonus (less armor) is stronger as the damage increase seemed to be a set 10%. Not sure how that came about either. I'm not a math guy.
The damage increase wasn't small either. It was a 10% increase in damage per piece taken off (based on the previous damage output). Compared to the original stat, that's an 18% increase overall in damage with 3 pieces off.
After that, damage went down due to too many perks being lost. With all pieces off overall damage dropped by almost 10% (which surprisingly isn't that much). But, you lose all the other perks too, like defense, ki, etc, so it's not worth it.
You can also roll it on armor. I guess it's designed to leave you with two or three pieces of armor on that give you the extra perk for reduced damage when you take a couple of other pieces off.
Thank you for looking into that! Awesome! :)
Less armor A+ is not good. CCD is the best Boost or familiary A+. Nice Video;)
Yeah, have learned that since making this video. Less armor A+ is good if you want to drop armor pieces, but even then it loses its bonus if you've inherited attack on all your armor pieces. So yeah, not good. Also, familiarity of A+ isn't as good as CCD so long as you roll CCD higher than 15%. Thanks for the comment too!
Great video as usual Fuzzy! I have a quick question? I just am now getting into the very end game stuff. Finally getting the green goodies. So my question is with all the purple stuff with inheritable skills on them can I use purple to soul match to green? With there inheritable skills? Just wondering if I have wasted my time hoarding all that sweet purple stuff.
Honestly, I don't know. I never tried doing that. I imagine you can, since inheriting stuff can occur regardless of divine level. But maybe you should try one and let me know. In any case, greens are plentiful, especially off of Revenants in NG+, so no need to hoard at all. I play for literally half an hour and I have to start selling/disassembling stuff to make room in my inventory.
i can say i was stupid because i was doing at first then forgot to do it when it came to divine weapons then i felt i was stuck but it was right in front of me the whole time. Yeah that naked gun face palm meme was perfect after my friend shown me as in "Yeah soul match does upgrade". Now i am Way of the Demon and owie, my training wheels are off at that point LOL
Ah it happens man. Nioh's a complicated game, easy to learn stuff and forget it. I've probably forgotten more about Nioh than I currently know tbh, no joke,
@@fuzzybearbarian yeah i can believe it man, like me "oh i done this to make it stronger" about 5 months later "how do i make a stronger weapons in Nioh" then found out when you did it before. Very good game can't wait for Nioh 2
@@DragonKnightDragonborn I hadn't played for at least a year and jumped into Nioh 2. I swear it was like 10 minutes later before I said, "Oh yeah, you have to ki pulse." Lol.
@@fuzzybearbarian lol
how do you get a element on the sword
ive been trying to get change to attack on my current etheral swords but i havent been able to roll it, does anyone know what other effects are in the same category? besides the obvious change to attack with various stats
I just started playing my plus ten divine weapons suck low in attack yours a plus one and almost higher than mine at ten how can I get it higher
Im new to the game and i dont understand why some stuff is cheap to soul match and other stuff to expensive? How i can cheaply soul math items?
Since there's no manual on how to play this game I'm curious to know how people know what certain special effects mean. Like the effects on your shishi sword eg. skill life drain and skill ki reduction. I'm guessing skill ki reduction means you use less ki when hacking & slashing.
Yeah, you use less ki when using an actual skill (the skills from the skill trees). Trial and error is how we've learned, and then players post what they learn on Reddit pretty much. The Nioh sub Reddit is where you find out everything you need to know.
great video, thx . one question, how much dmg increase do u get with, Enemies defeated damage bonus? cheers
I don't know the actual figures. I started to try and measure them at one point but forgot what I was doing half way through lol. I've been intending to gather some numbers ever since.
Fuzzy Bearbarian thx fuzzy. I ran across another great tip regarding Title Points that require killing yokai and human bosses without taking a hit. if you start and finish a boss fight with guardian mode, it counts as a no hit battle, even if u take damage. each boss is worth 3 Title Points. this could be a video topic for u. cheers mate
Ah, that makes sense since hits reduce your living weapon meter and not your health. Good tip!
anyone still playing in 2019
Lots of people, especially since both the Nioh beta and since it went free on PS4.
@@fuzzybearbarian lol yeah silly me for not specifying...but I'm new to the game started a week ago looking for friends
@@TheJriggins0071 I haven't played for a while, but lately I've been getting a lot of YT traffic to my Nioh vids, so I'd say it's pretty busy right now. However I can't say for sure what platform other than to assume it's PS4. No idea how busy the PC version is.
@@fuzzybearbarian I'm on ps4 loving the game so far still lost on a few aspects
@@TheJriggins0071 That's more than understandable, Nioh is a very complicated game.
I got a 160(+8) atagi sadamune, I want the effect Change to Attack (Heart) added to it, I got another Atagi sword with the effect (lv150). The problem is, when I soul match it, I COULDN'T choose the lv150 one as the Materials. Would you mind to explain, please?
Just a quick question. How to have a +1 on the weapon? Thank you.
Divine weapons drop or can be forged with it.
where i can get a weapon with inherit change to attack?
Purely luck. You can forge and forge until you get one forged. Otherwise, you'll just have to reforge it on your weapon as a non-inheritable.
Maybe I'm wrong, but in this video you lost the earth +14 Bonus. Did you mention it and why it happened? Was it because of the fire katana you used to forge it?
With maxed familiarity you got the +5 back lol
Yeah, sometimes it's easy to think you've lost something when familiarity is reset.
i need your help to know what to reforge cause i need to put skill dmg as inheritable:
change to atk skill
close combat ki dmg
lighting
close combat ki reduction
(>)mid atk break
guard ki reduction
dmg from behind
what do i need to remove to add skill dmag
I'm assuming whirlwind is your skill, in which case I'd remove mid attack break.
my dual sowrd weapon has low damage than yours mine is 150+5 but the damage 1070 in max fim i dont know why . maybe because the update ?
Yeah, this video was done a while ago. Damage output has reduced as a result of level cap, so less damage would be expected.
Where do you farm gold.
I'm on my first run, I run out of gold so often is annoying
The best early game way is to farm the the very first area's sub mission "A Request from Ginchiyo". Later, in the Omi region, farm Restless Spirits. When you open up "Marobashi" in the Tokai region, that's good too. Spec for gold perks. Mizuchi guardian spirit gives you a big boost in how much gold you get too. Also, you can spec your Prestige Points for more gold too, and join a gold earning clan. But my recommendation is to farm as little as you can, just enough to get you through what you need to get through, because until you get to Way of the Nioh, everything you get and upgrade will become useless pretty early on your next run through.
do the swords drop at the end of game
If you're referring to farming them, yes, they are a reward for completing the mission.
I have fire damage + 20 on my kurisagama !
What level is your weapon?
I know it s an old video but I just wanted to know why I am having damage less than 1000 on a 150+3 dual sword. It has only 6 special stats but I thought I would go beyond the 1k but I am still at 950. And when I see you 1300 damage I just can't help but wondering why?
Impossible to say without seeing you're entire build, as damage an be increased in so many different ways. Only way for you to be sure is to try to make a build from a build video to learn about all the different nuances that could be limiting your damage. Also, I should also point out that sometimes stuff gets nerfed too. If after everything you can't match the damage in a video like one of these older vids, look up all the patch notes and see if there was a nerf at any point that relates to the skill/attack/clan/spirit/gear you're using to test your damage levels.
@@fuzzybearbarian hehe can't believe you've replied a 1 year old video, thanks a lot man. I will try to dig a bit more to see what I can improve, I use a dual sword build with skill at 52 so I guess that's the issue. But many thanks man really appreciate it.
Yeah, skill is the primary attribute for dual swords. Just know that the rest, whether it is heart or strength as the secondary scaling attribute varies from dual sword to dual sword.
Does anyone know if special effects on weapons add together? Like say I have skill damage +15% on my main weapon and skill damage +15% on my secondary weapon do I now have +30% total or do I only get 15% for the weapon I'm currently using?
I'm afraid not. However, certain special effects on weapons will add extra damage to your primary weapon when on your secondary weapon. These are usually yellow special effects that read "Enemies Defeated Damage bonus A+" and "Damage Bonus (Less Armor) A+", noting that the last one I mentioned only adds damage if you also remove a piece of armor. You can also get it from "Familiarity Damage Bonus" and "Agility Damage Bonus". But the rest of the special effects do not get added.
Fuzzy Bearbarian Oh ok. Thanks for responding so quickly.
How come you're not using fragments for reforging?
I personally find the difference between using them and not enough to be worth wasting them on reforging. So I save them for forging where they are definitely useful.
Awesome, thanks for the reply! :)
That belt on the chest looks always so ugly ! :-(
There is so nice looking armor but that damn useless chest-belt ... ! :-(
ThePower87 you can remove it in options
I fcking hate this feature of this game
The feature would be fine if not for the material cost. Later in the game it gets even worse when you're trying to experiment with builds. Most people will choose a build and stick with it. Me, I tried to experiment with heaps and the amount of farming/grinding was insane. Burned me out, honestly.
wrong about plus leveling.
+1 on +1 >> +2
+2 on +2 >> +3
you put +3 on a +2 and thats not efficient at all
Also not efficient to post a comment without reading the description :P
Fuzzy Bearbarian people comments on your video not descriptions.
saeed atenzi the description is there for you to see what he annotated after the video was done... including description of misc
saeed atenzi damn and then coming out throwing them hands ( calling names )
Was stating the obvious mister
You can however use a +2 to upgrade a plus +1 but I’ve found it’s more efficient to use the same + number to soul match a weapon to get the max damage out of it
