  • Our road trip took an unexpected turn when we were involved in a car accident just outside the city of Oulu in northern Finland. Although we weren't at fault, the incident became a pivotal moment in our journey.
    Honestly, the emotional toll was significant, and it took us some time to process everything before we could share this experience with you. Watch our journey unfold as we navigate this challenging episode and decide whether to continue our adventure. It was a hell of an experience...

    Everyone who hasn't lived up north always admire our midnight sun. That what you just saw is one of the downsides of it, because Finland is very flat country and the midnight sun will blind you when it's near the treetops. So many accidents happen because of that and it seems that's the case here as well.

    As a rule! If you get into an accident. Even small ones. Always go to a hospital and do a check. And document/tell them even the slightest pain you have. That can even after 1-2 years lead to compensation. But if its not recorded at the time they will just tell you that the pain dont necesary comes from that accident!

      This. If something comes up later, without the check it's not your own problem.

    Keeping your distance is important. The sun can be blinding especially if your windscreen is scratched / dirty.

    That bumper plastic is just cosmetics, no need to worry about it.
    Sunset/sunrise are both annoying for the same reason when driving, someone is always blinded by the sun. Night driving can feel almost magical, mist and beautiful country roads are really something. Have to be more careful about animals though, it is very common to see moose near roads in the night.

      Yeah, the bumpers were actaully no big deal. The damaged parking censor was not that important anyway. About driving at night, we usually avoid driving after dark.

      @@LiraNeo2023 I wouldn't know but the other wires/plug looks like it's there in case a trailer hook is installed. Trailers need power for tail lights and blinkers and for brakes if it has them.
      I guess you didn't tape the parking sensor back in its original place?

    4:50 The broken parts seem to be parking sensors only. As long as the exhaust wasn't damaged so bad that exhaust fumes could get into the car (you would smell it) there's nothing to worry with this little damage. The hole in the plastic bumper is just visual stuff. If you have a hole in the plastic parts, it might increase air resistance a bit but that part of the car will get wet both sides of the plastic bumper while driving in the rain so the hole isn't important at all.

      @Beethoven1981 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      @@LiraNeo2023 Yes. I can confirm that driving too close together is one of the biggest traffic issues in Finland. You should always keep good distance to the car infront of you, so you have more time to react all those surprising situations on the road.

    • @JariJuslin
      @JariJuslin วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Especially during major holidays like Midsummer there's lot of traffic and lot of amateur drivers on the roads driving long distances and people often fail to keep enough distance to the car in front.

    • @JariJuslin
      @JariJuslin วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@LiraNeo2023 : Traffic accidents in itself are not "common" in Finland, ie. the roads are generally safer than most countries.
      But when accidents happen, this kind of fender-benders in cars driving in a too closely packed queue are typical.
      As far as road accidents go this is one of the best cases; no one seriously injured and you were even able to continue driving your car before taking it in for repairs.

    Those two cars behind you did a typical mistake by driving too close behind you and therefore had not enough time to react to your breaking. Rules are 80km/h you stay 80m from the car infront of you. 100km/h you stay 100m ehind car in front of you.

    • @jarnom85
      @jarnom85 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I personally use the seconds rule. I will stay at minimum 4 seconds behind car in front never any closer. 4 seconds is enough to react, brake and come to stop from 100km/h speed.

    Bumper is just plastic, easy to replace, sensors might be damaged and need of replacement. Rear trunk lid needs replacement. Mostly just cosmetic damage nothing major, they wouldnt have let you drive with it if it was too much damaged. Those two Volvo's are scrap now, they wont be driven again, either too old to repair (black car) or too much damaged (white car).

      In modern cars quite often if the airbags trigger it's a write-off. You have to dismantle the whole dashboard section and cabin linings to fix just the airbags properly and that alone is hugely expensive because of how dashes are usually installed.
      But of course the white car has the structural frame bent and engine compartment compressed in etc etc, so it's quite a clear case.

    • @jarnom85
      @jarnom85 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@JariJuslin Depends what airbags deployed. Most modern cars have pyro fuse that breaks up when airbags deploy, depending on where it is, really not fun to replace.
