@zerosam5541 It's already announced as PSR4. Sony's PSSR is it's own product. Also the PSR4 will be written to scale with more powerful hardware whereas until the PS6 PSSR can only do so much in patches, it can't make a 5 year old CPU better for example.

this is the issue when developers rely so heavily on upscaling. Its why us in the pc space are always complaining that they dont bother optimizing games anymore, they just crank the graphics and then apply an upscale. at least in the pc space we have these ridiculously power gpus that just dont get optimized for
It’s not really causing any headaches. The version implemented in many of these titles was an early iteration of PSSR according to some developers, which accounts for the various visual inconsistencies. However, DLSS faced similar challenges in its initial stages. Keep in mind, this is a deep learning AI, and its capabilities will only improve over time. Essentially, this is just V1.0.
Currently playing Rachet and Clank rift apart on the Ps5 pro. So far it’s utilizing PSSR pretty well. It’s upsetting that most devs are half assing updates for their games on the Ps5 Pro.
I feel compelled to explain this a little further for those who don't understand. but unfortunately I am not as patient and concise as the author of this video (VGFightSchool), games are made with the highest end devices, like if anything higher than the 4090 exists that could be used to double the power to make the fastest rendering, they'd use that. I am saying this to state that, most consoles are made with optimization focus, for this generation: 4k 60FPS is the target resolution and frame rate. because they have assumed that 4k is the premium resolution for now and 60hz is the standard refresh rate industry wide. Now lets talk about the development front. Game worlds can not look like real life because of the time it takes to produce a rasterized image. if you have done anyform of mathematics, you would know that matrix is what is used to calculate rasterization. each pixel on the screen is expected to have a color in its block. and 4k is 4 times the block of full hd. so imagine developing a very beautiful and fully enticing world, and now you have to scale it down to HD, and at the same time you have to make it so that it doesn't loose too much quality, after which you have to use software to scale it up to meet up with industry standard 4k 60fps, using a software upscaler. that is what most of this companies do, instead of using 4 time the processing of full hd to produce 4k pictures they try to use half of that by using matrix calculations in the gpu to make 4 times the bigger pictures. now you have to realize that the consoles are not fully fledged pc. these consoles are designed to meet up with 720p, 1080p and 4k. these consoles also use APUs lacking a dedicated cpu which should have its own ram seperately from that of the gpu. so the same memory where the files are being opened is also where the texture assets are being formed. limiting who good the pictures would look, also affecting the time it takes to generate a frame. that is why consoles are sticking to upscaled graphics. + playstation has stated that it is becoming too expensive to create hardware and sell at an affordable rate, that is because, they are all depending on the chip manufacturers for the latest iteration of their designs, playstation technically doesn't make the hardware anymore. They iterate it. they modify it to fit their own use case scenario. and because every game developer for story telling games are trying to future proof their games and sell sequals or DLCs. no one wants to use working graphics from 5 years ago, every one is aiming to be the next crisis, so that by the time their sequal comes out, it would not look outdated. the only way for this optimization mess to stop, is for GPU companies to reduce the massive inflation on the chips. which because of shareholders would not happen. Who ever reads to this point would understand why microsoft shifted it's focus from console market domination to distributional domination since 2017 and they have been talking about cloud gaming ever since.
This was brought up back in the high defintion transition and again when 4k was introduced but articles back then said something different yet simple to people. They told people to change their settings on their displays, move back further or new tech may not be for you. TH-camrs used to make that claim when flash bangs was introduced with the disorient screen effect while they played fighting games with the most blinding super/ultimate attacks.
Here we go lol. I expected what PSSR would do to game visuals, because let's face it, its just FSR with AI cores tech. Basically AMD's 1st gen answer to DLSS.
I just buy digital on console since 2017, when my house was robbed. I have a ps5 and series x both with the disc drive. I would never buy a console without a disc drive.
Good video, yes this will take time. There are growing pains involved with new tech and developers will need more time to utilise it correctly. I do notice that cyberpunk runs better on the PS5 Pro already. Even without a patch. Because it hovers on the higher end of the DRS range now. So some games that use FSR 2.0 on console already look pretty good. But i do like the new tech being used also. And we have a few years to really see what developers can do with it. God of War RR is a good example of PSSR, Stellar blade, I would hope that GTA 6 has plenty of time to prepare for the new consoles features. If anything, this bodes well for the 2nd half of this console generation but for the console to boost games I apready have, any of those is a big plus for me. Ive been playing CoD MW Remastered 1 and 2 and the resolution scaling on those is looking soo nice on the Pro. I can see the difference on the big screen and I am happy with it. Its been breathing a new enthusiasm for some of my old games. I went to play some of Destiny 1s old campaign missions and they also look sharper than I remember back in the PS4 days.
Amd gpu's are equal or better than Nvidia per dollar basis. Nvidia and Amd have great performers or horrible performers but if all things equal Amd gets you better price to performance. Another thing is that consoles are a compromise and if developers are bad at development then a console that's produced to make a profit and not guarantee the best hardware than you will disappoint yourself if you think consoles are some miraculous graphics powerhouse , you will learn that consoles are not necessity for convenience and quality gaming.
I really don't care if a game uses pssr or not. At the end of the day the pro still gets 10 to 20 more FPS on average in games. Taking a lot of games from 45 FPS all the way up to 60 or close to it. That's worth it to me. And when it's implemented correctly it works very well. But at the end of the day I really don't care
Kinda hard not to, there is literally nothing special with box #1. Consoles were always about convenience, packed features and cheap pricing for mass adoption. I don’t see any of those properties in this generation, even my steam deck has more features than the ps5 lol
Not Sony half arsing free software implementations since the PS3, nope it's all good This is FSR 3.0 but AMD offer FSR with a free license to rebrand so Sony is using it here. The beef is you need a strong enough system to run FSR properly because FSR is hardware-agnostic, so it works on everything just not super optimised itself. FSR is a good stop gap for everyone. Nvidia DLSS requires specific hardware to run efficiently (yes, you can shim it to run on non-Nvidia hardware) and is set up to use the nonlinear and transformation hardware that GPUs offer. It's more efficient but also requires intervention from both Nvidia and game developer to run the best. DLSS is not free to redistribute or resell and requires specific hardware to run well. Both FSR and DLSS need a clean base image to upscale, if the base image suffers from quality because let's say they're using Unreal 5.x engine and haven't gone through the settings and C-code to optimise what's going on under the hood then upscaling will turn a small image of a grey mess into a large image of a grey mess. The current issue with game development is all the game investors want "AI" in their games and they're sold on the idea that image upscaling *is* "AI" so now everything has to look like arse for it to get publishing funding. Another reason to ditch consoles and stick to indie games running on Linux (even if you have to use Proton).
Why do they need PSSR? They should be able to FSR on their AMD hardware. Why is the coding demand on consoles so trash? On PC one gamer may have a 6 year old CPU / GPU and the other may have a new rig. There is no "backwards compatibility" issue. AMD releases a GPU driver that improves performance but the game will run until that shows up. There are hundreds of different CPU and GPU configs. You add a few cores to GPU and studios need to go back and fix the game? No Sony fix your driver. Yeah, yeah, "Monk, why does this bother you?" Because every time the game devs have to back and patch the game it costs the studio MONEY! But if they have to patch a older game for the slight upgrade of this worthless D*** console the cost of that is added to the next game. Studio is not going to eat that loss and Sony hates the world so will not pay for it. I do not want my games to cost more so console peasants get a patch for bargain bin hardware. I do not want to pay for your choices. So get with the game or get out, no free rides.
