      FAKE NAME if your siphon is connected to your faucet just run the hot water all the way( hot as possible) let it drain for a for a while . The hot water will kill most bacteria and parasites This seems to work for me. My faucet gets super hot .

    When I was employed at a children’s science museum, one of my regular tasks was to siphon pebbles from the upper section of the outdoor water and sand flow exhibit using the last method. To accomplish this, we used a short, clear tube, which we submerged completely underwater until it filled up. Then, we covered one end with our thumb, lifted it out of the water, and released our thumb to initiate the siphoning action.

    Honestly, watching all the crap in my substrate get sucked into the siphon is so satisfying to watch.

    Great work Doc . I didn't know about the kink method . As I use a garden hose to do water changes this method will help alot.
    I also run water through the garden hose till I fill the hose, then disconnect the hose from the tap (faucet , that creates a syphon.

    Doc u saved me...... at morning i was feeding my fish some pellets but the container kinda slipped but luckily i caught it before it fell in the tank but a lot of pellets spilled out....i thought the fish would eat then but at evening a fish died so i was concerned that the other fish would also die and if my dad had found out this much food is in the tank he would kill me. I did the 2 method and sucked out all the food from the bottom. Thanks doc

    With large aquariums what I do is hook up the hose to the bathroom sinks spout ( with adapter) turn on the water for a few seconds...then disconnect the hose,and drop it into the shower drain . In summer,I use a very long garden hose..run in from the backyard..again start the syphon with hose water,disconnect the garden hose and the tanks water runs back and makes good plant water.

    Any suggestions for doing this with a fry tank. I am worried in case any of them get sucked up the tube.

    • @thefishdoctor8746
      @thefishdoctor8746  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use airline tubing and a small clear acrylic tube that I took from an under gravel filter riser. I carefully check the bucket in case any fry accidentally get vacuumed up. I also curl the airline tube into the bottom of the bucket to create a whirlpool/vortex, I found it stops fry from crashing into the bucket or water and getting hurt if they do get vacuumed up.

    Strongly recommend that you use a hose that's long enough to place one end of the hose inside the bucket and have to hold it and aim at the inside of the bucket. Have the hose coiled a couple of times inside the bottom of the bucket or clamped/tired so that it can't flop out. (Never a good look.) If it's possible, don't use a bucket at all. There are very heavy and can overflow very easily. Lash out and buy a garden hose that you can run out the widow to your garden (if a fresh water tank).

    Your last method is how we drain our spa. :) We use a 2" flexible hose with a big rock attached to the end to hold it to the bottom of the spa and dump the other end out in the yard. Just drop it in and start stuffing the hose into the spa until it fills up, thumb on the end and drop into yard.

As far as I know that can only be caught in humans as a nasty skin infection and I was advised not to put my hand in a tank if it had any broken skin.
