    I have a clip that holds the hose in the bucket that came with the vacuum. It helps with the last method.

    This guy is so good! I use the utility sink python water pressure method personally.

    I’ve used all 5 methods over the years. A very simple approach. They all work well. Nice how to Matthew

    An old school method, but still works is to push the vacuum end up and down until the water in the line goes over the apex. 2 to 3 times should be plenty if you're practiced at it.

    My cheap syphon has a little valve on top of the vacuum. I put the vacuum in the he tank and shake the vacuum up and down a few times. That valve works well enough to start the syphon.

    Only thing I would add is the full submersion method is far easier if the tubing is held horizontally rather than the vertical orientation demonstrated. You can lower one end of the tubing/vac and let the coils follow naturally--it will look like a coil spring. This method makes it easier for me to clear any air out of the line. YMMV

    I only siphon from the tank if I'm cleaning the sand.. in which case I typically use a drinking water safe plastic housing transfer pump and run it to a filter sock in my sump, because when I start cleaning I don't want to have to worry about when the bucket is full.. Glance down to check the bucket and now I knocked a coral with the end in the tank.
    If it's just water... (and you are in this for the haul).. I drilled a hole in my basement block wall and ran pipe through to yard. (dry well) and plumbed through the back of my stand and capped with an open 45 elbow..so it can't pull back out of stand.. and i can just feed in the 2 feet of vinyl hose attached to the pump that sits in the drain area of my sump.. and then start the pump at the same time as the other pump w hose from salt bin fills into the return chamber and system keeps running.
    I actually had it permanently plumbed in the drain chamber of my sump for two years with no issue, but nightmares alone caused me to remove.
    Also.. used remote key fob outlets for the pumps.
    SO.. .. put salt hose into return chamber.. and click..click. on.on.
    System never slows down..
    ..One pulls from drain area..
    .. one fills in return.. which equals minimal if any of new water getting pulled out... ocassionally check a level line marked on return chamber and when you hear the powerhead at the bottom of my bin splash... click click.
    Off. wind hose up. Ten minutes.

    I love how the return pumps were gurgling air the whole time he was taking water out. 😂

    Guys for the hand pump method, you can buy a cheap one at Petco, cut the tubing in half and place the pump in the middle of the 2 tubes and it even comes with a holder for the end of the tubing

    i think the handpump version is the most simple onne bec you dont havve to make any of your hands wet..

    6th is to get the Python and hook up to sink faucet and it will start the siphon but does waste a lot of water :)

    Well if I am just doing a water change i made my own siphon from pvc pipe, 2 T PVC Connectors, 1 Elbow PVC connector and 2 ball valves and tubing long enough to go into my toilet. On the out side of the tank I have the ball valves 1 ball valve above the water line and the other below the tank. I close the bottom one and open the top. I fill the pipe up from the top into the PVC tube "priming". Once filled I close the top ball valve and open the bottom ball valve to start the vaccum. If am doing a gravel vac then I use the vaccum attachment on my sink for my python turn the sink on to vaccum and not pump and clean my gravel some time. I am all about the not using my mouth method. Now in my home made water changer is big for big and fast water changes. I use pool hose so that should tell you about the diameter of my pvc being an inch or inch and half. So a 75 gallon only takes me less than 5 minutes to take out 75% of my tanks volume of water.

    I put the vacuum side of my flex hose in front of my wavemaker. This method forces the water all the way out the other end of the hose.

    You can put the syphon in the tank, fill it with water. Then shake it in a up and down motion repeatedly... really fast ...floor to ceiling. then it will start a syphon.

  • @drewlong77

    The Easiest as far as these go is to mix 5 and 2.
    #5: Place the large end in the tank and fill HORIZONTELLY ... THEN...
    #2: Use the handpump. Now you only have to get a little water over the crest with handpump. (as opposed to lifting all that water up through the wide part vertically.)

    There is another method for siphoning gas, put your hose in the tank and seal it off with a rage. Blow in the hose, this causes the tank to become pressurized and forces the gas out and you don’t get it in your mouth.

    Sorry post got too long so I broke up so morevwould at least read this first part:
    Silicone gear ties, silicone gear ties.. silicone gear ties! Hose holders, temp sock in sump holders.. cord ties.. pipe supports.. hold syringe to corresponding additive bottle... anything!

    Fyi, for sink people.. annnd the first person ever , i heard here..say toilet. Lol.
    ...Just know if you have a septic tank, I dont think it's Good to be draining alot of saltwater in it. Possibly very bad. Worth looking into. I had to make a ditch with gravel in yard. (Dry well)

    If you do this thing. You need to find the best and easiest way to move water. I am trying to come up with a system to import and export water.

  • @ReeferDave

    I give #5 a few tries and get a little water on the floor. That hose always comes out🤦‍♂️
    Then go to #1. Swallow a little... or more saltwater. Then spit in the bucket a few times.
    Then remember why I don't like water changes. 😂

    I have used all but the last one. I have a clip that keeps the tube in the tank and I use my turkey baster to start the suction in my bucket. My tank is only 29g so it works for now 😊

    • @BulkReefSupply

      A small pump works great for getting water back into the tank. I like to use a Sicce 1.0 or 1.5 for smaller tanks or a Sicce UltraZero for larger systems.

    When I picked up my 60 gallon cube from its previous owner he was able to start a siphon by putting the vac side of the gravel vac in the tank vertically and shaking it up and down. I’ve tried so many times since then to figure it out but I just can’t do it 😂😂

    • @pwitt5398
      @pwitt5398 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some gravel tubes have a one way flap/check valve in the top of tube. Water can only flow one way. Moving gravel tube up and down pumps water past the flap where it is trapped when moved opposite direction.

  • @bobbeas1244
    @bobbeas1244 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    little nit the key to the siphon is the distance between the water levels. not the distance of the tube as shown.

  • @cubanreefer1582
    @cubanreefer1582 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    How about you put that vacuum gravel on front of the return or in front of the power wave pump and that’s it all other 5s are unnecessary. That’s how I do it for years

    Water is denser than air so it falls through it. The water falling through the hose creates a vacuum within the confined walls of the hose pulling the water out of the first glass. "Gravity" has nothing to do with it. Density and vacuum explain it all.

    I didn’t know there was 5, I only use the first one, right now at this very moment I’m struggling to get the water flowing using my mouth, I have been doing it this way for 10 years, and I have no idea right now why the water is not coming back to me as I suck the tube end, I’m about to throw the whole thing in the street, just kidding! I do need some help though🐟
