      Same way you deal with panic moodles. You slowly get used to it over time.
      No joke, panic goes away faster the longer you survive (and by killing zeds too, I think). Desensitization and all that jazz. Mind you, veterans are immune to panic from anything besides nightmares to begin with in exchange for the highest price tag of all the occupations.

    The worst situation I’ve seen a new player do was dying to a neck wound. While pretty obvious after playing for a while, it’s good to mention that sometimes it’s better not to remove a dirty bandage especially from the neck. But that’s only when bleeding is dangerous or there is some danger around the player.

    • @zwenkwiel816
      @zwenkwiel816 3 ปีที่แล้ว +50

      neck wounds are kind of ridiculous in this game though, get scratched on the neck and you die within a minute or something. like it's worse than a deep wound on the legs which is kind of silly...

      @@zwenkwiel816 you'd be surprised how fragile the human neck can be. Though to be fair, I highly doubt every scratch on your neck in this game should act like you nicked an artery

      when my character had a laceration on the neck i managed to bandage it on the last little bit of health, escaped a horde, waited for hp to go back to about 1/3 and then treat it by applying bandages sterilised in hot water and very slowly repeating the procedure of waiting till 1/3 health and changing the dirty bandage until it stopped causing so much health drain
      treating it was a bitch because my character had slow healer, it took like a week to fully heal.
      Neck injuries are very dangerous and need to be treated carefully

    • @jesperlivid9184
      @jesperlivid9184 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yep, neck lacerations need to be dealt with IMMEDIATELY or you WILL bleed out. Rest, eat up, wait to heal up and then remove the bandage as your health falls rapidly once it's off.

      Honestly a really simple way to make first aid more viable is to 1) extend it to cover sickness better and 2) make bites a 90-95% chance of zombie infection rather than 100%, but still with a 100% or near 100% chance of normal infection if it doesn't zombify. That way being bitten is actually a scary, stressful experience, and doctors have a chance to shine. Without a good doctor, it'll be hard to tell if your rapidly spiraling health means you're dead or only *probably* dead, and it's worth attempting to cling to life with a well-leveled character

    I almost died by busting in the window of a step van and getting a huge cut. I had previously found a first aid kit but didn’t immediately understand how to open it, and then I didn’t understand why the bandages were getting so dirty in literal seconds. I asked Google and it told me to sew the wound shut, and that worked and saved my life

    Game devs should add, that leveling first aid to a high level gives you the (small) chance to clean bite wounds and cut/burn out infected flesh before it spreads to the brain saving your character. Maybe with a permanent debuff to your HP.

    • @Xeshin
      @Xeshin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Since the dev dont want a cure from bites, I'd suggest just ways to delay the zombification until they find the necessary tools for amputation. Regular players that try to amputate will bleed alot and bleed through bandages fast, eventually getting infected, until an actual expert at First Aid person could take care of it.

    Reminder that eating lemongrass which you get by foraging will decrease your sickness from food poisoning! This is essential if you've chosen the otherwise excellent weak stomach debuff which is quite popular. I think it is possible to forage lemongrass without needing the herbalist magazine.

    • @SyankaCreature
      @SyankaCreature 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why would you get poisoned tho? Weak stomach is only a problem if you eat rotten food, so just don't eat it, mushrooms and berries can be avoided if you have the herbalist trait or have the herbalist magazing, allowing you to identify the posinous foods that you forage, tainted water is actually safe to drink if you don't drink it from a container (you will only die if you are in a really shitty condition, like, "actively trying to die" type of condition), lemongrass is more of a convenience rather than a necessity, since poisonous stuff (as of now) is easily avoided

    I really want this to go more in-depth and be more realistic. I know it probably will never happen due to gameplay reasons but I would love to actually have diseases be a big part of PZ. Something that might be an idea is the usage of multiple bandages. The modern advice on applying bandages to wounds is that if the first one bleeds through, a second can be applied. If that one is also bled through, they are removed and a fresh one applied. then the cycle repeats.

  • @Hakasedess
    @Hakasedess 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I used to have zombie infections set to instant death until very recently just because it's a 100% mortality clock with absolutely no countermeasure (yet? ever?)
    Like sure, I applaud the "realism" (as far as a zombie game can be realistic) of it, but I ended up just walking into a swarm or starting a new game once bitten anyway because I mean... what's the actual point when you're just waiting to die anyway? There's nothing to play for anymore. Even a single cure item, randomly placed on world generation would make me at least enjoy it to some extent, desperately rushing around hoping I might find it on a character I've grown attached to, but since there's no such thing, I elected to just make it kill me and save me the uncertainty and waiting.
    I say recently because I've now just turned off zombie infection outright. For many I imagine the elevated risk of dying to a single bite or scratch adds to their enjoyment, but for me it just takes away from the experience. I'm more than capable of getting myself killed in stupid ways on my own without a diceroll determining I'm just dead now.

    During around 1:35, I have never seen my char falling like that. Was quite hilarious seeing that. xD
    In regards to drinking tainted water, as far as I can tell, you can actually drink from natural water sources like lakes and the river. I never, in over 700h, got sick from drinking directly from them. Yet, if you drink such water from outside a container or a barrel, its almost certain I got sick through it. It might be a bug, yet for now, Id make the claim its "safe" to drink from natural water sources.

    I said it back then and I say it again:
    The thing that zeds can kill you so easily is fine. Scratches are fine and bites are supposed to be letal.
    The problem is how rarely you are gonna use the first aid mechanic. two out of three injurie types from zeds are almost not even worth to treat and you are better of with a bottle of bleach.
    And beside zed injuries, it is surprisingly difficult to get treatable injuries that don't turn you into a zed if you are not completly brain afk and jump through the same broken window over and over again.
    The most logical thing in my opinion is to add more ways to hurt yourself.
    Maybe add injuries for carrying too much for too long, or give zeds a few more damage types that are not contagious like bruises.
    I would be even fine with a sprain ankle when run/walk with too much stuff.
    Just let me open the first aid menu more than once, max twice in one run.

    • @Dylan_Otto

      Car crashes that break your windshield should bruise and scratch you, having your car window broken should scratch you, there should be a very small chance that you can get scratched at low levels of carpentry when dismantling things or making barricades. Cooking at low levels should also carry the small chance at a laceration when using a knife, and a scratch when doing most other things. Wearing shoes with holes in them should have a small chance of causing blisters on feet which would need to be bandaged to reduce pain, getting sick should be more common, and antibiotics should be able to directly combat things like respiratory illnesses, tainted water and whatnot so that you can actually forage up penicillin (and make it so that when you compost there's a chance of it spawning) and there should be bruises and contusions like in NEO scavenger.
      Imagine if having a high bite/scratch resist could allow zombies to still bruise you to hell.
      Because as it stands, I level my first aid by repeatedly sprinting into a wall just so that there's a very small chance that if I ever snap my leg, my splint will actually allow me to run while splinted. Because increasing the life of bandages is such a nonissue since if a wound is bleeding so fast that you need to constantly replace it, that just means you need to stop taking off the bandage altogether until the bleeding slows.

    • @grimjudgment6527
      @grimjudgment6527 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Salt Meister I played in a MP PvE server. Nobody cared about the guy that got level 10 First aid because nobody broke their legs and survived long enough to be helped.
      Instead, the level 10 tailor was constantly busy. I've always told people this and I will say it a million times over.
      Level tailoring hardcore and you will turn even a tank top into 16% bite protection with leather strips by itself. Having 64% bite protection on your arms because of a level 7 tailor is vital. (Neck and hands are the least protected though since there was a nerf to helmets and to the hoodie's hood.)

      Foraging in a deep forest also causes scratches, and in some cases Lacerations, too. It works best, when you're not wearing only shoes and socks. I often use that skill to help level my first aid. Digging furrows with your bare hands also helps level the first aid skill.

    I always thought that the lack of "stop. drop & roll" to extinguish flame was kinda cheap, but maybe it's a coding limitation. I've only burned myself once in 1,400 hours; like your advice to avoid breaking windows with your hands, you almost have do something you know is dumb. My excuse is that I made a camp fire while walking to another town with a crew of Superb Survivors and they started walking into the fire. The next thing I know there's like six of them going up like logs. Pure bedlam as this is my first time with fire not in a wood stove and I got burned.
    I got stabbed by an NPC I was attempting to boot from the group in b40 and that was a treat.
    I don't put base point in 1a, but I'll advance it in game. It's nice to see someone with something to say about 1st aid besides "it's worthless". Thank You!

    One thing about Deep Wounds and having them on the foot is that they cause limping and greatly reduced movement rate, even when you use bandages. Only stitches will help you get your walking speed back and stop limping.

      @ThatGuyHarv In that 10 years they added 3D models instead of spritework (spritework being time consuming for every animation added.), reworked their netcode from the ground up, overhauled most of the game's code and tbh, development won't take nearly as long anymore because TIS actually finally started hiring more people to work with them.
      They've been making great progress ever since they hired more people tbh. It's what allowed them to add content to the game alongside pushing out multiplayer.

    First aid is a skill you basically give to one player in MP if they want to roleplay a medic. It takes a long time for little reward so having one person heal 5 peoples wounds is likely the only way to level it without purposefully injuring yourself or others.

    Bruh I just died to illness. I got scratched, bandaged with rag while still in the fight, once it got dirty I removed it, cleaned it with the wipes (while still in the fight), once clear shortly after, bandaged with an actual bandage then immediately went home, took medication then reapplied with a STERILIZED bandage then took sleeping pills and went to sleep. When I woke up I removed the bandaged which revealed a healed wound then took more medication. After this I started to get a fever so I took MORE medication and sat in my truck using the a/c making sure my temp was perfect. I died from the illness… what did I do wrong??

    I know First Aid skill is kinda useless, but in multiplayer, I think it could very usefull, specially if PVP is enabled, perhaps even, it could save lives.
    For example: Your friend got shot onto the chest, and there is people chasing you, you bandage him up, both of you got no time to remove dirty bandages, so there's a big chance his wound would get infected, but with longer bandage life, it could help alot.
    And another case would be in the same spot, you need to heal him as fast as possible, since you don't know when they will strike back.

I went in to fast and crashed (not even that hard) but I fractured my foot. then I took it easy for 4 days but my fracture wasnt healed (thanks slow healer and lvl 0 first aid) but I could walk/run.. I thought why not grab some propane and a torch and drive up the highway to those wreckt car pile ups and get some metal working xp and maybe salvage some parts... I drove there feally fast. a little to fast and I crashed hard. I was at Terminal Damage like 5% remaining and I had fractured my arm. my car hood went from 90% to ruined and my car engene was at 10%.... it sucked really hard since it took me a lot of real life days and many ingame days to build up my sports car to just almost ruin it in like 3 real life hours... The sports car was nice it had like all performence parts and it was a beauty to drive but its also a bit to fast so I crashed 2 times pretty heavely... My character was on a good roll and I hadnt had a single injury for 3 months of him being alive to then have 2 massive injuries in 3 hours haha I need to be more carefull. at least I also did a lot of farming and cleaning up my base but the fractures suck!

    • @brandonthompson7902

      I'm playing multiplayer right now, and first aid is really difficult to use. In order to examine another player, both of you need to not move at all for the few seconds you need to examine them. Then you have to take the time to apply whatever first aid, again without movement. It's easier and better to just have each player handle it themselves.
