He has a line on Outcast: "same style but the songs are better." I think he's continuing to delve into his signature style, and he's getting better at it. Some songs definitely sound similar to me, but I generally like the sound so it's not a problem (it really struck me that Lost and Paid My Dues sound veeeery similar though, from the beat to the structure of the song). His hooks have gotten a loooot better recently though imo. I'm a big NF fan but I respect what u r saying. I personally think that you either are a big fan of him or you straight up don't like him, you can't just enjoy some of his songs. I have gotten used to the repetitiveness on some tracks and it doesn't annoy me while I don't see the em similarities so strongly
Usually I would understand the kind of mindset of "you can't just like a few songs from him" but in this case he literally said in the video himself that he doesn't dislike all of his music/thinks it's bad but that he actually likes some NF songs and thinks that they're good.
I clicked on this video expecting to hate it because I am a huge NF fan but, honestly with how respectful you were and how well you explained your opinion I respect it.
i first heard NF as an angry 16 year old on my way to school. his music at the time was just relatable to me. but as i got older i just stopped returning to his music. ive heard everything he's released and there's only a handful of songs i return to. I personally agree with everything you said
His music is kinda made for people in a specific life situation/ age group. I like music for all ages (except maybe children songs lol) i dont personally relate with a lot of painful messages but i enjoy actual lyrics and not the same things weve heard for 30 years
Bruh i was in a psych ward 3 times for severe depression, and literally all the white (not racist just being real) 16-17 year olds would play this man's songs and mumble along like it was the best thing they'd heard.
I’m a huge NF fan and your opinion is highly respectable. You just said your opinion and did it in a very respectful way. Love how you said “He’s not for me, but that’s okay.” This is so true, because somethings are just not for everyone.
@@LLJullian he talks honestly about his life, some of his stuff is relatable, i like his many flows, the fact he can rap and sing it goes on. Personally im more interested in listen to what someone has to say and their life. I also love grime music and drill hahah its like a healthy mix of different rappers and sub genres. Its not just nf. I dont like tom macdonald btw. Feel like i should put that out there haha. What do you like?
@@LLJullian CDTV didn’t say he can’t listen to it, he admitted to liking some songs. Some other details as well, but he still never said he CAN’T. Somethings are just not for everyone.
Honestly you can’t expect much variety from the Search and Clouds, mainly due to one being an album and the other a mixtape. The majority of the songs on Clouds are songs that didn’t make it on the Search.
I think i speak for every NF fan when i say that we hate the "NF sounds like Eminem" argument but as you said thats not the big issue. I personall love his music and the way he writes his lyric, its like hes speaken for me with better words but i can understand when people get tired of him taking up the same topics over and over again. One reason why i love his music aswell is his voice, like how he uses it and shows agression and the way he flows.
I was scared to watch this for a long time because I love both NF and your videos, but I seriously respect your opinion and that you’re not bashing NF, just giving your opinion. I can understand all this
I hate how I already judged you by just reading the title then when I started watching I realized you have points of reason and making it understandable👌
While his music is very similar across albums, I struggle to think of another artist with a similar style who can pull off the dramatic and cinematic type beats over and over successfully. I think NF has carved out a sound that only he has. Definitely a sound and style you either love and can’t get enough of, or don’t like and get bored quickly of.
Im a fan of NF's music, have been since Therapy but trust me man literally every point on here (except songwriting to an extent) is true. The lack of variety in his music makes me burn out on his music extremely fast, with Clouds just releasing the only tracks i listen to are Drifting and Story. I only really listen to tracks from Therapy Session and The Search (his 2 best albums by a mile). I feel like when NF has a certain topic to focus on he really excels, whereas if hes just writing about being sad in general its very hit or miss. For example, Nate is one of my fav NF tracks and u can tell he had a concept in mind and executed it very well imo (same for story and many others). Whereas Thinking in the same album its just very boring to listen to cos he kinda just says alot but says nothing at the same time.
Yeah Nate is a great song and he tells the story well, some other songs though seem like they don’t have as much of a basis or a story and are just about general sadness and not as good imo
True, for me Drifting, Dream, Just like You, I Miss the Days, Nate, Returns, and When I Grow Up are the ones I’ll listen to on replay but the others I might listen once or twice and then stop.
Vibe, swag, soul...call it how you want, but all of this has always been an integral part of hip-hop. NF has absolutely 0. First time I heard one of his songs, I thought it was a parody.
As an NF fan who had grown out of the getting mad when people don’t like him thing a long time ago I find it funny to watch people review him negatively and try to keep assuring them that it’s okay to not all like the same person
I don’t blame him for continuing to reiterate that not everyone has to dig the same artist. Especially with someone like nf who almost had a cult fan base lol. Don’t wanna piss them off 🙏😂
@@knightvisuals6238 imagine, *YOU* telling ME what my own experience I had with an artists fan base is like. Thanks for telling me what I actually have experienced 😒😂
Lmao! Aye creds on that smooth transition into the promo 😂😂. And respectfully I disagree with your take on NF's music, but I see where you're coming from.
I'm a fan of nf music, I'll accept this. But i don't understand why people say it's only the whites that listen to nf, I'm black and i listen to NF some people are just funny.😹
used to be a HUGE NF fan back when perception dropped up until a few months after the search (which i loved at the time), but i’ve grown out of that dark place in my life. not saying it was a dark place BECAUSE of NF, but I was listening to NF because his music is so therapeutic if you’re struggling mentally. He gave me a lot of peace in my painful nights and i’ll forever appreciate that, but I just don’t care to listen to him anymore now that I feel better and have found other therapeutic artists like Kid Cudi and Mac Miller, who i just greatly prefer. Still bought the clouds CD to support tho even tho i only listened to it a whole 1 time ever lol
Yeah I think that’s the whole thing why people don’t like nf. Only the people who are in a deep hole can relate to his music. Once they have gotten out of that hole it’s kinda like nf helped you get back up but now it’s time to move on.
You had the best argument. Most people are just: "He's a sad white boy," or "He doesn't curse," and the "Sounds like eminem" thing is always there. But, you managed to support your argument. I disagree with it, NF is my favorite, but that's okay. Good job supporting your opinion.
As a massive NF fan, who owns each of his albums, I have a lot of respect for your takes. I appreciate a different perspective and I can admit that most of these critiques were accurate. I enjoy NF, his music never lets me down, but he's definitely an acquired taste which you do not need to acquire. 🃏♥️♣️♦️♠️
Clever idea uploading this today (on April Fools) to avoid most of the backlash from angry fans who don't understand what an opinion is. Ps. I'm a HUGE NF fan

It's because most other critque videos are disrespectful and mostly just compare NF to other hip hop rappers like DaBaby and others like that, that have completely different styles from NF.
I always love about one half of his albums. They're def not flawless but he consistently makes enjoyable music that's relatable and easy to listen to imo. He's just good at making a product idk.. Also, some of his stuff goes pretty hard, especially the Intros
Tbh I went into this thinking this would be another hate video on NF but was surprised how you were actually really cool about his music and gave him credit where it was due As a huge nf fan it's nice seeing someone give actual criticism and not just blind hate for his music
I didn’t know Tom McDonald cut his hair and changed his album title to clouds. I could’ve sworn this should be the gravestones review. Edit: bro I regret making this joke
Austin Stone nothing to do with Tom McDonald being better than nf. I literally said in my first comment that I could’ve sworn this should be the gravestones review. So don’t worry. Anyone who thinks Tom McDonald is better then anyone has a fucking mental tumor.
As a big NF fan, this is pretty accurate ngl. There's something about the consistent aggressive style he has tho that is addicting, and I like that I know what I'm gonna get with an NF project. Just my opinion I know it isn't for everyone
Me personally,I don’t think NF has a single bad song from his commercial albums. But i get why some people feel like they’re similar, but to me they all carry different emotions and meanings when i hear them and i think thats all that matters in the end...
I don’t see how NF write all those lyrics with the same flow and rhyme scheme and sit there and think to himself “Yeah, this is fire” and even more so I don’t understand how so many people are fans of the basic flow and lyrical content. Really says a lot about the music listeners of today and what people who wanna listen to rap but don’t have good taste are into.
Tommee and NF are friends from college. both came up in the music industry together, with Tommee doing scoring for TV and film. I'm fairly confident that the goal was to establish an "NF sound", and as far as I'm concerned they accomplished it. I definitely see where you're coming from though.
NF is my favorite artist and his music saved my life. I will be a stan forever but I absolutely respect anyone who says he is just not for them. There are many artist that I just don't vibe with but I don't put others down for liking them. Having a respectful opinion is key and I think that is why some NF fans get mad because some people just trash him instead of saying hey he is just not for me. We all have different taste and that is okay!!
Nf about to make a song about you now lmao "I get it my music isnt for everybody but at least have the decency to leave me out of your TH-cam discography" 💀
"But at least have the decency in you To leave me alone, when you freaks see me out In the streets when I'm eating or feeding my daughter To not come and speak to me" i see u
He has this therapy session stuff and “the search” but in the end he doesn’t seem to find anything. Take Dave’s psychodrama for example. You can see how he grows with more and more introspection throughout the record. But NF just seems to repeat the same stuff over and over to fit the image he’s created and the crowd that relates so much to his music
For anyone sorting by new, notice how the NF fans are mostly respectful? Take notes Tom Macdonald and Adam Calhoun fans this is how you should respond.
they really are though, i thought the response towards this video might be more aggressive but most of his fanbase seems really chill which i appreciate
@@CDTVProductions I agree. And as a big music fan there’s nothing I love more than a civil discussion between other music fans. We all love music why be angry at someone for a different opinion?
@@zenvious5645 you have something wrong with you, im an NF fan not because hes the best but because i think he has the most potential and skill as a rapper. But he is nowhere close to tech9ne.
Dude. That's exactly how I feel about him now. After clouds. It all kinda sounds the same. Let's hope his next album will be something new to keep fans going. And attract new fans.
i think it’s fair, but the variety comments don’t really work when it comes to rap; I’ve listened to like 20 different rappers who’s songs sound nearly identical. Respect the video, it shares your personal opinion, which is why TH-cam should exist!
As a fan of NF I agree with your views on everything, I didn’t even realize those strings were on a lot of recent songs. I too would love to see more variety like totally different types of beats and flows, even though I love the simplicity of his songs it would be nice to hear more versatile things too, either way I always going to rock with him
That’s what I’ve been saying NF isn’t a bad rapper by any means but he just NEEDS to switch it up. His fans are just gonna get tired of the sound in the long run and not want to go revisit specific albums
Not really a fan of NF but I do have to acknowledge the guys talent, he really seems to care about his craft, it’s crazy how a lot of his fans are also fans of Tom Macdonald who is the complete opposite and just wack af in general, NF is nothing like that loser.
Personally what I don't like about NF is that his overall style (music videos, delivery, lyrics, album covers, all of it) seems... "generated". Like if there was a rapper generator machine and you set it settings to "lyrical + dark" what you'd probably get is something really close to how I thin NF sounds like
I think the biggest part of NF’s discography you didn’t talk about, and it’s probably because he doesn’t bring it up as much anymore, is Faith. It’s a big part of his older work and some of his newer work. As for the major comments here is my response. NF isn’t an Artist you put on a playlist alone. He isn’t an Eminem, where you can have a playlist of his songs and feel something different for most of them. Also maybe it’s just me, but I think the NF song with T9 on his most recent album will do a lot for his style. I’d imagine Tech has the cache to kinda sit him down and say “hey, a lot of these songs sound the same. You’ve got talent for sure, just use it”
NF is one of my all time favorite artists, but I understand that he isn't for everyone. I respect you for being respectful and constructive with your thoughts! 👍
@@emerealm3779 The sad part is he wasn’t even the very first artist to perform, and he was probably the second most popular. It went Big Lenbo, KYLE, NF, Logic
@@zachwilt1009 that doesn't matter. He was way less popular than logic and logics audience is different than NFs so it completely makes sense why it happened
Well Lenbos’s, KYLE and (some of) Logics music are more hype and fun. since NF’s music is so fast paced and aggressive I understand why no one would care for him in a concert
NF not having much variety in his lyrics and instrumentals is exactly why I like him. I've been in a depressed rut for most of my life and I find the lack of change in the albums to be similar to the lack of change in my life. It's relatable. That's why I love NF. Also NF sounds NOTHING like Eminem. Idk where people see similarities.
@@ezekielanderson9055 u don't see the resemblance because ur biased towards nf. Frequent rap listeners can easily depict and hear that nf sounds exactly like a recovery/encore clone of em

hey man, i’ve decided against doing it because i feel like that takes away value from my Patreon supporters slightly and it was extra work i put in specifically for the Patron exclusive content. Hope you understand!
@derp derpin I like CDTV and understand his point of view, but I agree with you. He has his style that nobody else in the genre really does (or does this well, at least). He could have some more variety, sure, but I can't fault him for sticking to what he's good at. and His lyrics about mental health resonate so well with people because even though CD doesn't *think* they're in depth, they literally describe the mental illnesses he's referencing perfectly. I've never heard someone who deals with severe depression, anxiety, or OCD say his lyrics are too surface level. He's tackled just about every symptom/challenge of anxiety & depression in his music, and still finds new ways to talk about it that don't just repeat exactly what he's said before. People who don't deal with them may see this as surface level/stale, but to someone who actually suffers from severe mental illness, he tackles every aspect pretty perfectly, which I've never heard done before personally.
@Optimal_cane man we just like his music and whats up with this "Only white kids named kyle" stereotype Im black...and my names john and we dont go around yelling everywhere YoU JuSt DoNT KnoW WhAt ReAl RaP Is
Fans will always be unlikeable and stan over their idol. I ignore the fans amd listen to his music. I really do love his songs. They are deep and are meaningful. They have helped me a lot
I'm a huge NF fan, I've used his music to help me cope with religion associated trauma for several years now, not just his religious songs even though they do slap, a lot of his songs are written to address the listener directly and he talks about several methods of coping with depression and listening to those tracks make me feel loved despite him not knowing I exist. It has helped me a lot. But even when he's not rapping about depression and heartbreak, I still enjoy him. Though Nate's flow is pretty basic, he makes up for it with his delivery. He has a type of energy that I feel like is very unique to his music; the way he conveys aggression without swearing in his lyrics to add emphasis is really entertaining to me (not to say that I don't like songs that curse, fuck that). Not to mention his singing voice is absolutely beautiful to me. I feel like a lot of people discredit his talent because he doesn't swear, he's signed to a christian label, and he takes a lot of inspiration from eminem. I feel like that's a bit undeserved. He's a talented artist and I'm a really big fan. I respec CDTV's opinion but I do not agree.
Dear CDTV, I'm an NF fan, but I have the same issues with lack of variety in his sound as you do. I felt that it was addressed a bit in his past two releases, but I'd like to see more. I'm willing to forgive a bit of the issue with the Search though because I felt he made a significant lyrical improvement. I also think The Search is 3-4 tracks too long. I understand your criticisms of his songwriting as well. He does make a lot of references to his past pain, but several of those are more surface-level. I feel he does do a great job telling stories though. Story, Intro 3, Nate, Changes, and How Could You Leave Us all do a great job. As for the corniness factor, while the bars you mentioned are certainly overused, I don't feel that they're all that corny. If NF was forcing the issue and trying to make jokes land or laughing at his own words (a la Eminem), I would take more of an issue with the bars, but as it is, I just feel that they're meh. I also think that you can see some significant improvement in his lyric-writing from Perception to Changes and Clouds. Returns has sequences where he says stuff like "tool kit without the pliers" etc., which I thought was decent, and "Like a mannequin that can speak, what I have in store is unique" wasn't a bad line either. I actually think the larger improvement has been in his flow, which has always been the strongest part of his rapping to me. Yes, the Eminem comparisons are a bit of a problem, although I think they're a bit overstated. His delivery is a lot like Eminem's, that is absolutely true. I don't see many similarities though between the production styles of the two artists. Eminem, especially earlier on in his career, used bouncy, G-funk influenced synths, while NF uses heavy, dark orchestration, which puts him closer to Hopsin for me. Although I'm certainly not the biggest fan of NF, I do enjoy his music despite all the issues you pointed out. I was nearly ready to stop being a fan after Perception came out (one more album would've done it) but the improvements I saw on Changes convinced me to stay. I hope I continue to see more evolution and improvement from NF and thanks a lot CDTV for this video. It was really interesting and a lot of fun to hear your thoughts. Sean
@ZUULIUS Because I wrote it as I was watching the video and I love having open conversations about this kind of stuff. I tend to get long-winded sometimes too lol.
@@fabi2.006 That may be true. I don't expect him to read it (although you never know for sure); I just wanted to write out my thoughts on his comments.
I wish my friends would actually give music a chance before shitting on it like you do. I don't even mean NF either, just in general. A lot of my friends won't engage in anything beyond surface level conversations about music taste. It really sucks. They're so stubborn and refuse to give certain artists a chance

I like this take on the subject
Honestly I'm the same way
Yeah Nate is a great song and he tells the story well, some other songs though seem like they don’t have as much of a basis or a story and are just about general sadness and not as good imo
True, for me Drifting, Dream, Just like You, I Miss the Days, Nate, Returns, and When I Grow Up are the ones I’ll listen to on replay but the others I might listen once or twice and then stop.
Naw fam perception is the best
It's amazing how NF has improved with every single album

I respec CDTV's opinion but I do not agree.
what is the song at 9:18 ? it is really good :)
Nf - Real
Dear CDTV,
I'm an NF fan, but I have the same issues with lack of variety in his sound as you do.

Thank God I wasn't the only one in that song that he sounded like Drake.
I’m not a big NF fan. But his music is cool. But I’m also not gonna criticize him for not having variety when most artists don’t have much variety either.
I am a fan of NF, I saw this in my recommended and was like “uhhhhhh” but you were really respectful, good video.
