I am SO GLAD you're making more videos--I watched that first one so many times and I did try to jump ahead, then got confused and discouraged. I would love to see you go through a pattern from beginning to end, and what I've been REALLY struggling with is how much tension to use? I watched a bunch of fingerweaving videos, and in one of them, she's like "Pull it as tight as you possibly can," but I've done knitting before, so I know knitting is supposed to be tight, but not TOO tight, and I'm just STRUGGLING. You might have made more videos already, I have to check your channel, but I'm just so SO glad.
Great introduction and tips for starting finger weaving, personally it would be nice to watch step by step for basic techniques and gradually increasing the more intricate patterns.
I am so glad that you are doing this. I would really like to see more of the basics, just as you are planning. I was taught some of these techniques when I was a kid, but have forgotten. The folks who taught me have passed on. Please share as I would very much like to learn these techniques. Aho!
daniel I'm so glad someone's watching my videos! if it wasn't for the views i got on my first vid i wouldn't even be doing this project. But you guys are counting on me, so i can't let you down. :)
Hey everyone, I'm going to have to put the videos on hold for a bit. I wound up going into the hospital and having surgery. This was an unforseen complication, and I won't be able to have a video up at the end of this week like I promised you. I will have one up eventually, though. Thank you for the views and the comments, it means a lot to me. :) Katherine~
You're back!! I kinda put fingerweaving aside because I'm so used to doing beadwork (also a weaving style, I even unknowingly incorporated fingerweaving!) so I had to follow the money. Seeing this is definitely a sign to pick it back up. Personally, I believe the stipple pattern could go with the diagonal pattern. Obviously I have a very, very basic understanding of the technique, but before you even said it, I thought: "She began with alternating threads." For me, the original video was more than enough to pick up the actual "over-under" weave. I'd like to just watch you naturally do the work, maybe give pointers along the way. My biggest issue is getting a strong, even tensioned cloth. My stuff is either too brittle or too tight. I know it just comes with experience, but maybe watching what you do would help it along. It was awesome to see the more advanced patterns. Those are the ones that got me trying to learn. I commend you for keeping this alive. My Tribe was among those that traded with the french, and these belts are a staple of our style of regalia. Not a whole lot of people do it anymore, and the people who do are super secretive about it. At least around here. I look forward to being your student!
Triston Rogers thank you so much for your input! I really feel quite honored that you would come to me for tutorials. I hope to have a new video up by the end of next week. Please let me know if you have any questions. :)
I watched your first video earlier today, didn't get very far into it before I stopped watching. New to weaving, I am interested in the different types. Your first did put me off, I am dyslexic, and voice 'instruction' helps me tremendously ferret out and make sense of what I am seeing. Almost didn't click on this video, glad I did. Going now to your channel to look for the diagonal, thank you.
I really appreciate your introduction video. I watched tutorials on weaving and I was lost. I've never done it and found they went too fast, couldn't see what they were actually doing. Personally, I would like a tutorial from start to finish with verbal explanations as to what you are doing step by step. I just subscribed and look forward in starting to learn from your teachings. Thank you! I like you already.
I hope you're doing better. I just came across your first video and really would love to learn a bit more about this. There are suprisingly few other quality videos on the subject. Good luck and speedy recovery.
Excellent introduction! You've given me plenty of inspiration! It would probably take me 10-12 MONTHS to do an Acadian pattern, but it's something I can aspire to. No worries with the production quality. We all start somewhere, and I produce a podcast via my iPad. I'm trying to get into a sawtooth (half-lightning according to the DVD I have) at the moment, but the interlocking is giving me trouble at the moment. Anyway, I'm so glad you're doing this. Thank you for continuing, and best wishes with paying off school loans! BTW, love your Hobbit and background art on the wall!
i would love to learn all of them honestly lol personally i think if you do each of the different techniques with their own videos going through step by step for at least a few rounds of the pattern to make sure its locked down that would be great :) you have absolutely beautiful work!
Hi again Katherine. Since you asked, I'm interested in learning the lightning and arrowhead patterns. I have a special interest in learning the Acadian and its variations. Though I'm of Italian ancestry, I was born and raised in Louisiana, hence my interest in things Acadian/Cajun. Looks like you're off to a great start. Keep up the good work, and happy weaving!
Hollie Domiano I'm straight up caucasian, lol. Nice thing about weaving is that anyone can learn it. I'm just glad that someone out there made the tutorial books. I wouldn't have learned it without them. I'll be doing the patterns in the order that i originally showed them, but feel free to ask any questions. I'll answer them the best I can. :)
I'm into Frontier era. Your first video was great all things considered. Nice job. I would like to do a sash and leg ties for my hubby and sons for their historical outfits. My question is, how do i know how long to cut my yarn lengths for different end products?
Charlotte Laux from personal experience, cutting your yarn too long is better than too short. Each pattern uses up a different amount of yarn, so I really can't tell you how much extra you should use. my samples used about 4.5 ft threads and I got around 3 feet out of each, plus fringe, if that gives you any ideas.
I think if you do quick videos of the techniques that the patterns will require if people need a reference to look back on. And then the patterns each have their own video. And the stipple video you can reference to the diagonal one if it's similar enough. I just know I like shorter videos that explain it so I don't have to search through one long video to find the technique for a refresher kind of thing. I hope that helps you as you move forward. I'm really looking forward to see future videos.
Hello, Catherine! (sp?) ^_^ Thanks for all you do! I was wondering... I could not find any video of yours on the Lightning and Acadian patterns on your channel - are there any? I've searched and searched, but I'm somewhat notorious for not seeing something, even though it's right in front of my face... lol Please help? Thankies!! ^_^
Hello! I'm really glad I found your channel. I do medieval style live action role play and have just started finger weaving. I work with far fewer thread counts than you do, but I think I can translate some of the patterns you've shown into belts nonetheless. I also saw your comment on this video about having had surgery a couple years ago, and I'm really glad you were able to come back to making videos! Your passion for the work clearly drives you :) Anywho, thanks for being here and doing this thing on the interwebs. It's great stuff and I'm glad I found your videos.
without your video and others. we would be left in the library to find. and time wasted trying to sort out a lot of information. this way its visual and most helpfull as well as fun!!!!
actually todd since u live in oklahoma. i know my community offers fingerweaving classes its skiatook osage rez. but the classes u have to register for
I do not know how to do a Mochila strap. I did some research for you though, and yes, it is done on a table loom and can probably be done on an inkle loom. I pretty much focus on finger weaving, so anything with a loom I'm not really sure about. Here's a video I found of someone making a mochila strap, I hope this helps. :) th-cam.com/video/Q_AoGhR3JEE/w-d-xo.html
Personally, I like the look of the lightening bolt pattern... but it WILL drive you insane to weave it... I came up with a pattern (once upon a time) that I called the railroad track... Love it but it's a bit crazy-making itself... but loos GREAT with the right color combinations... LLLOL
As of this moment, no, I am not taking commissions. It is a goal I am working towards, however, and I will be sure to let everyone know when I am opening up for commissions. :)
I do have a better microphone now. Feel free to check out my livestreams. May not be professional grade but it does the trick when you're on a budget. Thanks for the input. :)

Very interesting patterns video delivered in an honest format. Start at the beginning...
Ooo! The lightning pattern! Im a total newbie but thats what im looking forward to!

Good bless you. Hope you be well soon.
Feel better soon!
Stumbled onto this. WOO HOO! Excited to learn about what you've shown me. Total beginning weaver.
I am of Ojibwa and French Canadian blood. Perfect!

Caitlyn Mapel thank you so much! I'm just glad i can show people this stuff. It's really amazing what you can do with it. :)
From step one and all the way through for me please

Great! I'm curious. Which books did you use? I've a whole library on fingerweaving, both in English and French. Good thing I'm bilingual. :)
i am an algérien girl please do another vidéo dont stop your work is fantastic i wont to learn

I'm going to try your diaganol method.
Charlotte Laux okay, then addding an extra 12 inches ought to do it, I think, if there's extra you can braid it for a fringe.
Wonderful. I'll give this a try. =0)

Do you take commissions?
As of this moment, no, I am not taking commissions. It is a goal I am working towards, however, and I will be sure to let everyone know when I am opening up for commissions. :)
Ever tried a French l'assomption sash? That one is easy to hate.
I have done one actually. A small one, but still the same pattern. It's at 10:41. I'm also planning on doing a video on it. . . eventually, lol.
The Weaving Illustrator I'm getting ready to do a full size one for my husband. Pray for me 🤣
Heaven help you and give you patience, lol. I know I needed it working on mine, and it was a sample size! Good luck!
teach me oh great one :)
I'm working on it! lol. I will hopefully have another video up in the next week or so. . . internet speeds permitting. Thanks for watching!
wonderful
Tnstructionton to weaving part 2
You actually need to speak up
invest in a microphone if you're gonna not talk loud or clear enough.
I do have a better microphone now. Feel free to check out my livestreams. May not be professional grade but it does the trick when you're on a budget. Thanks for the input. :)
Dang lol, take it easy
not very instructable. you don't explain yourself, how it is done. no sub from me.
