Haven't read a new comic in months. But i hope to a new bunch soon. And yeah, Mark Waid is a prick, everyone knows that. And the last 8 years or so, it has shown more and more. This is a guy who can't take a setback.
Mark Waid has a long history of being rude, recently he made some very inappropriate comments on X. If you want to know more about Waid just do a Google search and you will find a lot. I put a post on X a few days ago with his most recent hate filled comment.
Iron Man #20 by Gerry Duggan and Andrea Di Vito was a serviceable issue. It wrapped up some plot points in a somewhat satisfying fashion. I liked the cameo of Bats the Ghost Dog. Tony's interaction with Ironheart was handled surprisingly well. Tony wanted to hold off on the annulment of his and Emma's marriage after the courtroom scene which satisfyingly cleared Rhodey of all the charges that he was framed for. However, during their last meeting, which ended up being over the phone after all as Emma showed up as an illusion in the restaurant, Emma ended up saying goodbye to Tony with a huge check. There will be repercussions from where Emma obtained the funds to back that check which should be interesting to see what happens as a result. From what Tony said to Ironheart, however, he is a solo act now so it can be implied that he in fact did go through with the annulment. Hopefully, Tony does *not* return to either Hellcat or Janet Van Dyne as a rebound. I am looking forward to the new incarnation of the West Coast Avengers which was broadly implied at the end of this issue with the interaction between Tony and Rhodey. Some of the recruits might turn out to be heroic after all and others might revert to their villainous nature. This will definitely inspire some interesting stories for that new team. The art was still decent in issue #20. I really want the new armor design to go completely or be recolored so that the gray and black parts are red. There are strong hints of a possible armor change in the preview for issue #21 so I'll see what happens. The blurb in the preview for issue #21 that hints at AIM or ROXXON taking over Stark Unlimited is reminiscent of SHIELD trying to take over Stark International back in the day by buying up all the stocks, including Jarvis' two shares, to return SI to weapons manufacturing. I do have a few bones to pick with issue #20 however. The resolution with Feilong was completely unexpected. I frankly would have preferred that Tony take the darker route that was hinted at in issue #19. Leaving that powerful villain alive, even with Emma's tinkering with Feilong's mind, will likely bite Tony and others in the butt in the future. What was put on the memorial to all of those who lost their lives because of Feilong and Orchis really stuck in my craw. They should have left the last three words off of the memorial and it would have been more impactful and respectful to their memories. The idea that Christopher Cantwell wrote a stellar run of Iron Man prior to this one makes me wonder what medications not prescribed by a physician Gerry Duggan was taking to write that nonsense in his Afterword. Mark Waid being responsible for the idea of Tony and Emma getting married is hard to get past for me also given recent events. Waid has been making it increasingly more difficult for me to continue to separate the art/writing from the artist/writer. Teal Deer: to summarize, Iron Man #20 is a solid 4 for me. Gerry Duggan did a lot of hard work to redeem Iron Man after the damage of the prior three runs. I can only hope that Spencer Ackerman continues the trend of restoring both Tony Stark and Iron Man to their before 2016 glory.
