    Personally I feel like the reason people prefer bare knuckle over boxing is because of how raw it is and you can see more damage as to where Regular boxing it’ll take until about round 5 for things to get interesting. Atleast for me that’s why I watch bare knuckle over boxing. Congrats on your win and I hope we can see another fight before you retire! Keep it up champ 💯❤️

    3:40 another way to remember this principle is to always circle toward their back. Circling around the lead leg/hand can make it a lot easier to take somebody’s back if they over commit an attack from that same side, and like DJ says away from their power side

      @@sideswipe672how? Bare knuckle is not that far off from mma 4oz gloves aren’t much padding just barely enough to protect your hands from being injured basically

  • @FaceMeetsFloor
    @FaceMeetsFloor ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Hey @DJ you ask at @4:50 why not wear gloves instead. There are a few reasons. Gloves do more to protect the hands from breaks and the face from cuts. With gloves you can punch harder and are much less likely to break your hands. So you end up taking more brain damage with more and harder impacts. It's less bloody than bareknuckle but the long term risks are greater. You have to moderate your punches (lower power and strict targeting) with bareknuckle or risk breaking your hands on a skull or elbow. There is potentially more technical variety in bare knuckle since you can't block with gloves and there are more gaps in guards, also the open hand can be used for cuffs, parries, touches, and clinch work.

      @@Mighty15x There's an older study available called "Karate and Boxing Glove Impact" that finds that gloved punches can generate more force and target displacement (almost 28%) than bareknuckle punches. Another study called "Striking dynamics and kinetic properties of boxing and MMA gloves" from 2014 finds that MMA gloves 4-5 times more peak force than boxing gloves as well.

  • @duffman638
    @duffman638 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Another master of the side step punch you were describing at the end was Mike Tyson. He would continually press the action and if you watch him. Freddie Roach taught him exactly what your describing close distance, side step to the shoulder side, and with Tyson he would usually throw a quick body, liver shot. He also did this because he was usually a smaller fighter with shorter arms and needed the fight very close to control the action and tempo.

    Love it, DJ! Thanks for reviewing this fight! I actually really liked it and decided to check out this TDFC - watched like a dozen fights made by this promotion so far and there is a guy, Pogodin, that has a very interesting style that I very rarely see nowadays - such a great job with his footwork and a lead hand - OMG! Made some research and apparently it is called "soviet boxing style/school" - what do you think of its application in modern MMA? Is it bad? Or otherwise I don't really understand why MMA fighters do not utilize it - looks absolutely fantastic and I suppose rather frustrating for the opponent?
    I hope you can find his fight by typing this into a search bar (tdfc x pogodin)

    I think the point of bare knuckle isn't just that you can hurt your hand it's that you can't throw recklessly without breaking them and also that the damage taken is more realistic to a real fight. I don't know that it's all about. Protecting. Your hand and not being hurt when he's all punches. But I think that's part of it

    Mr. Mouse, ironically, it's more dangerous to fight with boxing gloves than with your fists or just tape. Due to padding, your head absorbs more of the shock than hitting with just your fist, it's also a faster fight too, so the lingering damage you might see in a boxer's career isn't the same as a bare knucklers/pugilists career, if you need receipts, ask and you will receive, this is, ironically, safer than boxing in the long term.
