There is so much potential with Speed Racer for an epic current gen title. It could be like Mario Kart with simcade physics. Endless fun with cars, gadgets, and tracks.
This was literally the very first PS1 game i had ever played. I think I was either 5 or 6. My dad bought it from Walmart while the PS1 was new before he even bought a PS1. At that point I had only ever played games on cartridges (yeah, I started gaming WAY early in life) and the idea of a game being playable from a disk was foreign to me. I didnt think it was even a game at first. I thought it was a music CD that just had the soundtrack from the show. Then he got PS1 and played it. I was blown away by the fact that games were going 3D at that time. Looking back this game really isnt that good. It feels like a tech demo for what was to come because this game doesnt have much replay value even for its time. Even the original Crash Bandicoot had more content than this game and the first Crash Bandicoot was a very bare bones platformer.
If they put some effort into this game it could have been great. Horrible control, poor track design, and repetitive voice samples are awful. If they made this a 3d "bump & jump" it would have been cool.

I never knew there was an arcade-style PS1 game based on the original Speed Racer series.
I hadn't heard of it either (until I saw it in a retro games shop)

Really loved this Speed Racer series growing up, never even knew there was a game on Playstation only played the 2009 movie game on the Nintendo DS

I felt scammed with this game, only 1 TRACK with 3 versions.. come on!!
Was probably fine for its original 1996 Japanese release, but definitely barebones for its 1998 US release
