Your one of the only guys saying use a split ring … everything else they say tie direct , I’ve tried both it’s more consistent with direct tie … but to each his own try it out either way
I definitely think everyone has their own way to fish big baits, but I also believe that the fish like a specific action too lol. For instance, the fish here in my bodies of water like the more erratic action on smaller glides. But anything 8” or bigger they react more so to the slow wide glide. That’s why I go snap on this one 👊🏻
@@SOA905 Have you ever cast off a direct tie bait? If not, then you are one lucky MF'r!!! Mike Bucca recently did an IG video on using a split ring on the nose of his glides specifically to avoid cast offs (snap would serve the same purpose here). He says that the back and forth glide cadence causes friction at the knot to eye connection as the line twists back and forth on the metal eye. Then when you go to bomb a cast and it stops suddenly (cause everyone backlashes at some point...right?) that knot fails and you watch your investment fly away to eventually settle at the bottom of the sea! I'm not sure if the loop knot avoids the friction of a direct tie knot but while action is a preference, taking precautions not to lose your swimbait I would say is universal. Again, not saying this is for everyone, but I thought sharing wisdom from an OG bait maker may help out (whether you love Bucca's stuff or not)!
@@SeaNaCl I think it’s all about personal preference really. If I didn’t say that in the video, my bad! But if you’ve fished a lot of different glides, you find out what you like to have the bait do. There’s quite a few that I ONLY direct tie, because I don’t want them to have any added movement (or weight) for how I fish them.
@OklahomasWorstAngler @Goonamus @Glock-1 @clips0292 I know this is a bit down the timeline now, but here is a quick recap to sum up KGB's naming schemes over the past year or so. The original resin 7" baits were called Chad Shads (Kevin originally named many of his baits after family members (eg. Benson = 3 piece jointed bait named after his son). Once the SPRO Chad model was released (the ABS plastic model reviewed in this vid), there was some confusion when referring to "Chads" when discussing the two different 7" baits. So Kevin decided (as he has done more than once in the past) to update/revamp the 7" resin model to perform "better." What resulted from that remodel was a slightly smaller profile glide (just shy of 2 oz versus the original 2.5 oz resin OG Chads). He then shifted to calling them the TSG (Textured Shad Glide) since the scale pattern was designed into the molding process. The 7 inch "Chad" model became the TSG-7 & the 9 inch Legend model became the TSG-9. Kevin also said at that point that no more smooth chads would be produced, only textured blanks. Then in a KGB live video, Kevin revealed (without naming names) that there was some hullaballoo over his use of the "TSG" term since it included the letters TS (Taxi Shads are also fine baits if you aren't familiar). So, to avoid the drama of the bait maker world he has subsequently returned to using the Chad & Legend names. To confuse things a little bit more, he has also recently re-released an OG Legend bait that harkens back to a previous beloved (by many) iteration of the 9" version that is not textured. Anyone else's head spinning yet?! I'll leave you with the wise words once placed on a sticker by another of my favorite bait makers (Kyle over at @TheGracelyBaits): "Stop Bitchin -- Start Fishin!"

Curveball here- I tie direct with a loop knot. Gives the lure the freedom to move, without introducing another point of potential failure (snap).

@@dan5danPT thanks for the thought. Something to consider.
I haven’t had one bite or follow on mine yet. Fingers crossed
Keep after it bro! It’ll get bit
Maybe switch up how your working it, my brother uses this and has never gotten skunked with it
Change your cadence up. Throw up to cover. You will get bit. You will catch some small ones but you will caught more big ones.
How about a loop knot instead of split ring?

No snap!!!
Oh snap! 😂
My fish tell me to use the snap, so I snap it up!

Why not just tie a loop knot onto the direct line tie? Save yourself the trouble of using unnecessary additional hardware

They are STILL making chad Shad’s and have frequent drops, you are incorrect sir!
The TSG has replaced the Chad Shad brokski
