I bought the super cheap Michael's $5 for 24 opaque paints and darn if I didn't make them work. I have loads of more expensive paints ( tube paints) but for starting out I wanted to use the cheap ones ( in the pan) so as not to waste my artists' quality paints and good brushes. Ha! I know you should practice with the good paints, so says some, but this worked for me. I use 140 lb. paper, but not my Arches. I've gained so much confidence. Your videos have really helped a lot. I finally just jump in and just starting doing it. Thanks for this review, I'm thinking of getting another set of opaque pan paints.
Sooo glad this video is still here! Was looking at art supplies on eBay and came across this set and the First thing I thought was "Has Lindsay done a review on these?" Yes, she did! It was the first video that came up on a Google search for reviews! YEA! 😄 Thanks for all the time you put in doing these reviews. It Really is super helpful. 💟
I started painting for the first time in February. I have a little 6x9" Strathmore notebook, and last month I bought the same watercolor cards you're using. I use the notebook to practice in, and yeah they're not the greatest, but I date all of them because I want to be able to see my progress. And making cards for people has become so much fun! It's making me want to branch out into stamping. :P
Welcome home Lindsay, you have been missed. When will your class be on Craftsy be ready for purchase? I hope you are doing better after your ordeal with Hazel. I had to have my cat of 16 years put down last Saturday; the Saturday before Easter. She had been sick with a Thyroid problem for two years and it had finally gotten the better of her. I feel that when we know it's time, keeping them alive is just selfish on our part. Can't wait for next Fridays live webinar. Take Care Candy
Great review, always nice to know where not to spend your money.....I like the painting and I thank you for sharing. Hope you had a great trip....tell us about it!
Though I work on fabric I really enjoyed listening to you talk through this watercolor project and sharing your take on the products. I try to always scan my art cards before I give them away, so I still have a reminder of the work (fun) and the scanned art could be printed smaller and used in other art/mixed media projects too. Thank you!
I thought these looked familiar! I have a smaller set. I found the reds were extremely chalky and weird looking. I used them to paint Christmas cards and actually used up some of the pans. I'm not a professional by any means, but I didn't like them. I was so excited to see a tutorial from you!! I was going into withdrawals LOL!! Tons of crafty hugs!!
I have the 12 color set of these. I use them for scrapbooking and art journaling. Actually got a sweet deal on them at AC Moore. Don't feel they are very versatile.
That is our state flower! Hope you got a chance to see Pikes Peak. It's much closer here in Colorado Springs. I really enjoy your videos that are not edited. Thank you
can you do a comparison video of this and the Holbein Cake Colors Opaque Watercolors? I know the holbein set is a bit difficult to get your hands on but I wanna know if I can get this set when i run out of certain colors since it's much more available in online shops.
I have a set of extremely cheap opaque watercolors from elementary school and they seem to do exactly what these do. Maybe the pigments aren't as good, but I could never justify paying that much for opaque watercolors. I think I'll break out that old set after watching this video and see what it can do that transparent watercolors can't!
They indead look like tempura paint. Maybe you should compare them to paint in that category once again? get some more expensive tempura tubes ( so you don t have to get a whole set). The end result is nice, but if you d wanted more translucend or really opaque watercolor look, that isn t the result :-) And maybe use some pastel( the chalky ones) or watercolorpencils to do some accents?
I have these. I think they're okay. They're definitely better than the crayola watercolors i previously had, but I'm not a professional artist or anything. I'm also pretty young. I don't know what the point of this comment is.
+Theros F There were Naked Lady's blooming in the field that my husband and I got married at. So they mean a lot to me. That's a great idea. They are beautiful.
+Madi M Grumbacher used to be 100% American until Pelikan Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH recently bought them. The tube of paint is Pelikan (student/craft) brand, made in Germany.
I've been marathoning your watercolor playlist for two days. I've obtained supplies and I can't wait to get started.
So wonderful to see another painting...I've missed you! Hope you had a great trip this week.

When my brushes handle start to flake I use 2 coats clear nail varnish, stops the debris from getting I to the pigments, lovely demo.

Did I just read "deckweiss" on the white paint? is this a German palet? ☺

may i ask what the difference in watercolor paintbrushes with acrylic ones are? are there specific differences other than the size of it? :0
+ImmaT0p watercolor brushes hold a lot more water in them

It does look more opaque when dry.
I love the no editing videos. :D
