There was kind of a lot of stupidity with this movie. Trying to get from Calabasas to the Rockies in a Tesla was literally the dumbest thing ever put into a movie, not to mention the first thing that they discussed was, “do we have food and water in our go bag?” What is the point of having a go bag if you don’t even know what is in it? Then there is the homestead. Somehow they manage to store food and have the means to produce it, but the minute they need it, it spoils and won’t grow ? That didn’t even make sense. I get the whole,”you can’t rely on the government,” thing but seriously, a single nuke and now FEMA isn’t working? Nothing in this movie made sense but I think the worst thing was prepping in a palatial estate on the top of a hill near a population center was the funniest part. Did that make sense to anyone?
@@aguynamedscott11 Yeah.. goes to show that, for example, your family may have a go bag, but only the person who packed it knows the contents. The dad should have shown the others the contents, not just to grab the go bag in an emergency. That’s a real scenario. There were many “dumb” things, which I found helpful in showing errors in how people might act or preps that need attention.

My friends have been there and are friends with the group that is based in Utah and affiliated with Black Rifle Coffee Company. If you Prepare yourself and you bring in 12 families from the city, they will take over your place and give it away! You couldn’t tell anyone and invite only family members? What do you think?
The movie isn't playing here yet, but I'm interested in watching it, I've seen more than my share of natural disasters, enough that even my chickens have their own Bunker.
@provide_protect It's actually a pill box in plain site lol, it has views of all the neighbors homes and both sides of the road, built out of steel reinforced block and concrete, roof is 6 inch thick steel reinforced concrete lol.
I have a theory (contains spoilers). Given how much time was invested into theme that they could barely feed themselves, let alone others, I have my doubts we got the original ending. If the original message was "just have faith bro," why spend so much time developing Erikson/Military guy as the voice of reason the way they did? Or building the character arc of Mr. Ross/rich guy going from idealism to seeing reality? If I had to guess, the original ending likely had a proper fight scene, the death of Mr. Ross, and a inconclusive ending. The studio likely felt it was a bit too dark to be associated with the studio or to be released during the Christmas season, and opted to rewrite it rather than adapt it. Regardless, I'm disappointed. The film had so much going for it, just to get the ending wrong. The final message particularly bothered me, as it seems to portray what I call a "name it claim it" view of faith. That if we truly claim and believe that God will do something, He will. The message should have been that regardless of our circumstances or what outcome we expect, we can have know that our salvation through Christ is secure and that God is working His plan. Instead of telling the salvation message, the studio indicated if you just believe enough, God will make everything better. In making the ending logically impossible and contradictory to the rest of the film, it prevents itself from accomplishing all its goals. It hurts its ability to be profitable, witness to unbelievers, introduce people to prepping, and its ability to expand the popularity of Angel Studios (which was clearly a goal with the film). Another aspect of prepping the film explores, in addition the those listed in the video, is that if people are aware of your preps, they will be that much more tempted to take them.
The book it was based off was definitely a lot darker, and follows more of a "God helps those who help themselves," approach with a bit of inspiration from the book of Job to see how much misery certain characters can go through. And also that cost of mercy is measures in the lives of loved ones.
Easily worst movie of the year. IM writing this just over a hour into the movie lol. For such a cool and simple concept (world ends and you fight off the hordes) they made an abomination of a movie that really has everything but fighting off the hordes due to nuclear disaster. None of the 76 main characters have any context or development. All of the interactions and relationships are empty. The acting and dialogue is a joke. The overuse of military terms in every setting that doesn’t need military terminology is maddening. The characters spend more time bitching at each other the. Actually practically preparing for the end of the world. The son of the main character literally tells his dad to stop overreacting bc only one nuclear bimb went off- can’t be that bad. Don’t watch this movie lol it’s seriously the worst movie of the year and it’s not even close
I have mix feelings about this Film, the beginning was great , the drama of the nuclear explosion, still how the first family manage to escape by car log Angeles is weird consider the entire highway is jammed, also the husband stuck in middle of Los Angeles as cloud of deadly radioactive material going to drop on everyone, most chances people will abandon their cars so no luck escaping, better to stay close in the basement for 2 weeks . then also I expected they will be bit more prep with the food, maybe build greenhouses before. and letting strangers into the compound in the end.. come on.. really, sketchy duds with backpack , no other communication ? no satellite transmission ? no satellite TV from other countries ? ham radio ? . but the acting was good, I liked it but bit too naive in a world that like what Ronald Reagan said “Most Terrifying Words - ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help. but in general it as nice but I have a feeling people expected more about the story , more shooting, drama escape etc.. what happened around ?
Took my kids for sonic. Homestead was playing the same time, so I ducked in. I couldn't get past the first 10 minutes or so. People loading up a tesla, ending up at some palatial estate. A rich family going to "homestead" which appears to be a luxury 10,000 square foot mansion, with a basement stocked full of all the food they'll ever need. I saw nothing I could relate to at all. I left in the first 10 minutes.
@provide_protect the only motivation I would have in getting further into the movie, would've been in rooting for their destruction, which didn't seem worthwhile. I couldn't get past the ridiculous premise of people using a Tesla to escape an apocalypse.
I don't watch Hollywood films. So when this movie came out, I was excited. I miss going to the movies. My wife and I bought advance tickets for the 18th. Once it started, I knew we had been baited and switched. We were not coming to see a movie. We came to see a pilot. Centered on an incompetent security team of ex special forces guys hired as security for a Christian billionaire?😂. That 4th wall is getting stronger. The security guys promptly let a government official into the compound, all the way into the armory. Then let him leave afterwards. 😂 They generate more threats to the compound by this mistake. They all wear plate carriers they have not even bothered to slip Airsoft plastic plates into. They talk of deployment then act like they were never there. The film was so poorly written that none of these characters had any serious depth.. The 'movie' quickly devolves into a shapeless dough that is devoid of any filmmaking architecture. Feminine emotionalism becomes the basis upon which all decisions are made. What was intended to be a Christian theme ends up a story about the narcissism of a woman. I am a huge afficionado of post apocalyptic fiction. However, this series looks like it would have the quality to be on the WB. I don't expect it to be 'R' rated on a big network. Jericho was better. You could tell it was going to be good the first episode. Good writing, better actors. If you are a 15 year old girl streaming the WB, this is for you..
I read the book series and this hit on about 10% of the books. But I know who made the movie so I didn't expect blood and gore like the books. But it just didn't do the books justice. Big yellow barrels with the nuclear ☢️ signs. The radioactive material used in medical equipment has to be properly sealed and shielded or it’s deadly. The bombers sailed the ocean exposed to hundreds of pounds of radioactive material, and they didn’t die within hours???? No realistic EMP. That’s cool she turned on the biological protection on in the car. Too bad nuclear weapons aren’t biological. Essentially the opposite. Radiation kills biological cells lol. It also sticks to surfaces and can irradiate them making them deadly. The point of the movie is interesting but it’s like nobody did any research on nuclear weapons. It was awful lol.
