    I am reasonably new to flight sims...wanted to get the best gear if possible. Before I bought the 1st stick or throttle I decided on going with Monstertech to hold everything. Because of the way my desk is made (it has a slide drawer in front which makes it nearly impossible to have desk mounts) I decided to go with the Flight Stand rig from Monstertech.. Also have added (2) MFD mounts for button panel mounts and a mouse tray to have to the right of my stick. Going to order the floor bracket for my rudder pedals soon (which I have to modify slightly because of not being able to leave my rig in front of my desk all the time....making it detachable from the main stand). This stuff is 1st class all the way. Once you mount it up it stays where you put it with absolutely NO wobble. It's not cheap (especially with freight cost to the US).....but if you want the best....THIS is the best.

    Mr. Calder, hands down...you...are top-notch, just as the gear you present us. I write with all sincerity, that your calm, smooth demeanor sets a relaxing tone...thus, we're focused in on what your gonna present and therefore your 'environment' makes it easy to pay attention and learn from you. You speak normally, clearly...no hype trying to keep our attention. For me, that hype doesn't work, tired of it. Having previously been a student and an instructor throughout my years, I can appreciate a professional when I see one. I know this is 'only' gear for our sim passion, but we're all forking out alotta money so finding a person such as yourself is extraordinary. Thank you Sir, for taking all the time to put all your videos together so all of us will benefit. :) Thumbs up always, subbed for life.

    9:16 - Your initial idea was correct; you can DIY these easily, and cheaply. It's *all* off the shelf except for the stamped metal plates and top mounts.
    What makes MonsterTech kit good is that it's well thought out, well integrated, and fairly priced.
    It was their obscene shipping costs that made me go the DIY route.

    • @jessecalder
      @jessecalder  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ll admit I’m wrong if shown a parts list in a shopping cart (with shipping) and the website. People love to do this ‘call out’ but in the US I’ve priced it out several times and the savings is negligible if any.

    • @literate-aside
      @literate-aside 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jessecalder I'm not calling you out; this is PC peripherals, not a teen drama 😁
      As I've said, the kit is good and well priced. Shipping costs of +50% total was the primary driver for me.
      Availability, locale (I'm not in the US), and the specifics of the build are all extremely influential.
      That being said I'd be more than happy to provide itemised pricing for my own build, which cost around 30% per mount compared to the MonsterTech solution. I'd estimate 40% with the same extrusion size.
      Mine includes a desk-frame system that all the mounts 'latch' into, 5mm aluminium top jaws and peripheral mounts, draw clamps rather than compression etc. It uses 2060 extrusion as the design means it only experiences shear loading, or flexion across the more rigid dimension.
      Let me know if / where you'd like the BoM sent to, I'll do a USD conversion at PayPal's current rate.
      *EDIT: There is no requirement for you to 'admit you're wrong' either; this is about helping the community, not one-upping internet strangers*

    • @jessecalder
      @jessecalder  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@literate-aside I'm not being confrontational, I genuinely want to know of suppliers that drastically improve the cost of materials. I don't think one outside the US would do me much good but the sources I have looked at aren't even close to the kind of savings you're claiming. I would guess that it has to do with where you live. Feel free to send the info to the email address in the about section of the channel and I'll definitely look into it. Cheers.

    At 8:00 when he does the stability testing, I don’t think the Foxx mount was tightened adequately. I have them and they don’t move once they are tightened. Is there some bolts coming loose that could use some blue loctite?

    • @fleischwolfgaming454
      @fleischwolfgaming454 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Snake Eater Company Thanks for the response. I totally get how the smaller setup might have less surface area to create friction to prevent movement. Perhaps my desk just allows more friction. It just seemed like an abnormal amount of movement, like something was wrong. Do you have high resistance springs in it?
      EDIT: I just did some testing and unfortunately my desk moves before the mounts moves. I guess the next upgrade is a better desk before going from Foxx mounts to Monstertech

    That angled screen for dcs is nice! I best look away before I spend more money on that sim! lol. Now I am getting tempted to get monstertech mounts over the virpil s3 (which is now oos anyway) But im not sure between long and short.. Short gives me a better option of storing out of the way but they might be a little too short.. The longs seem to have an extended piece which pushes out the stick further from the mount which I like.. Decisions decisions..

    unpopular opinion: its waaaay to expensiv. at least ervery part is between $20 and $40 to much. The Virpril Stick + Base costs ca. $300 which is ok. The Mount costs 50% of the Stick + Base. WTF
    Mouse extension $75?
    Quality and useability might be great but for real its to much in the end. I guess "Jesse Calder" got the hole package for free to make this review. ;)
    Don't get me wrong, the setup is cool and I'm really jealous of it.

      Me: I like this product but it’s expensive.
      Internet: Clearly you’re a paid off shill.
      Everyone would love to pay less than they have to for something they like/want. But it’s a free market I’m afraid and the rate that these products sell out would indicate that they are evidently under-priced. The good news is if you can make it and sell it for cheaper you can corner the market! Or at least not have to pay msrp. I look forward to seeing your offering!
      More good news, there are products for those with a disdain for expensive products such as yourself. Check out my other reviews if you’re so inclined.

      @The Program very well thought through reply; so in the end I spoke with the noobifier (TH-camr) and decided to try the monster tech chair mount. Long story short; it didn’t include useful instructions...2 trips to the store because of mixed metric/standard hardware and 1 to my local machine shop because none of the holes lined up and the universal mount wouldn’t fit... and it works and mostly I love it....I do not recommend the swivel adapter as the screws need to be tightened daily or it will drop your rig on the floor...but I stand by my feeling that this review is not impartial but I totally agree that you would shave maybe 50usd going this alone
      Edit: I completely agree with his assessment of their hex wrench set...I love and recommend them as well
