That Lincoln concept car at 4:15 reminds me of the 1966 Pontiac GTO. It looks super simple and spectacular! Whoever made this has done a wonderful job!
It's been my childhood dream to work on and design cars. I've been drawing concept cars since I was 12 (I'm now 14), and now I have been seriously thinking of applying for CCS.
As a student that goes there, is so much fun, but its a ton of work. Expect 10-12 hour homework days, and barely sleeping. Some kids I know go 1-3 nights without sleeping just to get their work done. They are very specific on what they expect from you as well.
I've been Drawing cars since 4th grade and now I decided since I am getting better I am Designing Cars (I design Lexus's because Lexus is my type of style)
Daniel O’Conner lmao just saw this but yeah for sure I bet:) I went there for precollege last summer for 3 weeks. Even tho it was a decently basic trans design course, I relied on Red Bull’s to get those final renders done for presentation day 🤣
This is absolutely awesome!! I'm still drawing car designs and interiors as well but to follow this course of the wellknown Industrial Designer in the Netherlands, we need mathematics in particular, since you have to work with sizes and everything that has to do with numbers and I'm totally 'anti-maths' unfortunately, I think it's ver difficult... But it's a very awesome course to me though :D
I actually went there from aug. 2009 to may 2011 with a semester off. It is like no other school in the eastern us. They look at portfolios sent in by applicants. Then they accept very few unfortunately. It is also very expensive. I went for transportation design which was so much fun but at the same time very competitive and sometimes stressful. The average age is around 23-24 fir a freshman. And most are from overseas. I was luck enough to go at 18 and am thankful for the experience.

I always wanted to be an automobile designer... I have done it for fun since I was about 13... I have hundreds of designs. I feel that i can do the same thing even best, I sketched too many cars, i'm just 13 yrs , i'd LOOVVE to be a car designer, but Here in Morocco we can just dream,
I Felt like responding to you. If you are thinking about design now, you are already ahead (it's not a big deal). If you are in school and have a powerful computer (8GB ram -minimum), Autodesk will let you use their software for free. Many tutorials on TH-cam. I have friends in the industry and can direct you to them but beef up your skills. A lot of practice can easily make you as good as these guys before 18. Look at a lot of art and study philosophy because much of design is about problem solving and abstract thinking. I'll send you the Autodesk link. If you can't sign up for it, talk to your school counselors and teachers, get it through them. Autodesk will work with the school if it's for teaching purposes. You need 3d skills. www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/all And here is a good book to buy about design philosophy. You need to practice some of the exercises. I can put you in touch with some professionals if you get your skills up (see link below). Because you are from Morocco, you may have some interesting insights not currently represented in design. People are willing to give scholarships, so, advance your thought process and start really immersing yourself in art, design/technology, philosophy, politics and material manufacturing. Africa will be a hub for manufacturing and design by the time you are 18, so, don't miss out. It's a great time to be connected to design. www.amazon.com/Elements-Design-Kostellow-Structure-Relationships/dp/1568983298/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417305335&sr=8-1&keywords=rowena+reed Many good schools in France and Italy as well. The Cadillac Ciel has a strong resemblance to Alex McGowen's Lincoln. Do the students have any ownership for their designs because it just seems like Cadillac took the same concept and just placed their logo on the grille.
start sketching, if you cant sketch well its difficult to visualise the design as you cant make it materialize on paper. So get practicing and when you get arrive for your interview you will already be a well acomplished student
The future holds strick emission laws. Future manufacturing will have several challenges. Going Green, Using recycled materials, using lighter and stronger materials. I absolutely agree with you. Simply being a sketch artist will not advance you. You positively must have a firm grasp on the science of damn near everything material. I've seen many illustrators on youtube. When I see that they simply traced the outline of a vehicle then 'colored' it in I move on. One guy replied to me "everybody traces". I call bs on that. I mathematically grid the vehicle then move to the next level. You'll never find one sheet of tracing paper in my studio.
these guys are more car stylists than actual designers. Designers create products from scratch and have a deep understanding on how to bring ideas into production. Engineers are not designers, they're engineers. Thats it. Both have their merits, and a designer can't do an engineer's job, as well as an engineer can't do a designer's job.
This seems like a puff piece to me. After all, how many of these students actually end up with careers as automotive designers? I suspect the vast majority do not, despite needing to spend a decade or more repaying student loans. Ken Ross and Imre Molnar seem like dishonest salesmen to me.
