Hey y’all! Hope you enjoy the video! Just some important things I wanna note regarding how this video was put together, since there was some confusion on the last Kentucky video: First, important note, Cameron Boozer’s rating was recently lowered to .9994, now making him Duke’s 8th highest rating recruit. His rating was changed after I had edited and exported the video, so the list now will look different than when I originally made the script. It’s still the same exact players in the top 10, just in a little bit of a different order. Next, I wanna emphasize this is not my personal list, and the rankings were not at all influenced by my opinions of the players. The list was put together using 247Sports composite ratings as the reference, and these are their 10 highest rated players pulled straight from their database. Another important clarification, official recruiting ratings (different from rankings) did not exist prior to the early 2000’s. This includes the 247Sports composite player ratings, so anybody that played for Duke prior to that will thus not be included. This is not to say that older players weren’t just as good/better recruits than the guys in the video, they just didn’t have an official recruiting rating back when they played. Bear in mind, the whole point of this video was to specifically look at the “highest RATED Duke recruits of all time”, not necessarily the “Best Duke recruits of all-time.” Lastly, these are the players that just barely missed out on the top 10: 11. Shaun Livingston: .9993 12. Luol Deng: .9993 13. Cam Reddish: .9992 14. Austin Rivers: .9991 15. Kyrie Irving: .9990 Hopefully this clears some things up! I appreciate the support as always, and more videos coming soon :)
Derek Lively was a beast at Duke. Just his defensive presence during the game was enough to allow Flip to be wayyyy more productive offensively than last season, without Derek
As a Duke fan Barrett’s freshman season was very over after his fg percentage was not good and he was a great ball handler his numbers were good just because he shot the ball so much
There's something wrong with rating systems over the years that missed on Zion, Tatum, Laettner, Ingram, Kyrie, Grant Hill, Luol Deng, Elton Brand, Carlos Boozer, Chris Collins, Corey Maggete, JJ Redick, Johnny Dawkins, Jon Scheyer .... If this is apples and oranges so be it, but these players, omitted in the top 10 list were all heralded out of HS or equivalent; all were impact players at Duke from the jump, and most were all stars or solid multi - year mainstays in the NBA. Presumably illustrious Duke players like Jeff Mullins, Verga, Marine et al preceded the ridiculous present day prospect ranking cottage industry. Lloyd Graf Duke PhD 1973
You definitely make some good points. Recruiting ratings are for sure not a perfect system. I mean at the end of the day, it’s really just scouts making predictions. That’s in large part why I like making recruiting videos like this though. Using hindsight, most people know who the best Duke players ended up being, but analyzing who scouts THOUGHT would be the best players based on their recruiting ratings is highly intriguing to me. Also I’m pretty sure recruiting rankings have been around for quite awhile, but recruiting RATINGS only came into existence in the early 2000’s. That explains why most of the players you mentioned aren’t included. As for guys like Kyrie, Tatum, Zion, etc not making the top 10? I think it’s just a prime example of how difficult scouting is. You never truly know who’s talent and skills are gonna translate well to the next level
I’ve seen a lot of people saying that with NIL, players are more likely to stay longer in college going forward. We’ll have to see how that all plays out
If we’re talking about my favorite Duke player, probably Paolo. Favorite player of all time? I’d say John wall or Carmelo Anthony. I really like watching Ant as well
They can't all be winners. Watch the video on the top-10 UK players. Some good players, but also some guys who just never lived up to the high school hype. It's not very scientific, these rating systems.
Doesn't it seem that Duke would have more then 5 Natty's if u consider that amount of All-Americans they have had on campus!!! Should Duke be one of the most underachieving college basketball of all time? UCLA had elite recruits as well and they produced how many titles? Yea, like i said, Duke should be considered one of the most underachieving college programs of ALL_TIME
Correct, he tore his ACL in a scrimmage his senior year. However scouts were evidently still high on him regardless, hence his rating. As for why he was given a better rating than Tatum, I don’t have an answer, you’d have to ask 247Sports lol

As a Duke fan, I love seeing videos like this, but I would make this list differently

RJ has the same taste as mbappe
What about Kyrie and Zion?
I didn't see Zion Williamson on this list.
Just proof that players should only enter the draft after thier senior year.

Zion? Tatum? Kyrie? Grant Hill? Laetner? what's going on here?
Zion, Tatum, and kyrie had lower recruiting ratings in the 247sports database than the guys in the top 10. As for the others, check the pinned comment
