Cooper Island Review - The Broken Meeple

  • In the age of exploration the players arrive at a new home far away from their homeland. They try to colonize the big island and each player tries to explore one part of it by placing landscape tiles. Landscape tiles grant resources and those are used to erect buildings with special abilities. Barriers on the island have to be removed in order to explore the island even further. Players build valuable statues and supply ships get them the supplies from the old world they need to be a successful settler on Cooper Island.
    The special thing about Cooper Island is the way the players mark their victory points. They take small ship markers around the island to show their progress. On their way around the island they find smaller islands inshore that grant valuable benefits. After five rounds, a game of Cooper Island ends and the player who developed the best and went on furthest with their ships will win.

    Spot on review, very tight but very well done and satisfying to play. Only played 2 player so far but looking forward to solo.

      Where did you get the solo expansion? I know it exists but didn't see it at Essen.

      Never mind! I saw Frosted Games on BGG mention they had copies in their web shop so I went and bought it.

      Probably 2 just to keep downtime/length low but it works fine at all counts. 4 makes for a crowded worker board.

    I’ve never heard someone call Lorenzo “light” before. I certainly wouldn’t. I’ve also never heard anyone mention luck in Lorenzo either. No one considers luck to be a large factor in dice worker placement euros, and in Lorenzo, everyone shares the same rolls, which kills any luck argument.
    Don’t mean to nitpick, but I strongly disagree on that one topic. Edit: changed “right” to “light”

      The role will benefit one player more than another however each time. Also there are so few spaces that are worth anything due to the negative modifier on the die on spaces that half the time you gain very little in your turn. Not as tight no, but feels a lot more punishing.

      The Broken Meeple I may have been in the depths of a hallucination, because listening back over to the same sequence, I don’t know that you said light either. My apologies in that regard, I must have been sleep deprived haha. Or maybe falling asleep...
