I normally love his takes as well I just feel he reaching when talking about Russell sounds like a narrative ESPN and other networks trying to sell on Russ… if you were being objective you’d say let’s see with a good defense (not one giving up 70) and a sane coach ( unlike unhinged Payton one of the only head coaches suspended for a year please name another if you know) or a hack like Hackett or Pete who stop coaching after he lost the legion of Doom… stability…. Let’s see what Russ has in the tank now but nope all you hear is he washed

so much Louis said that needs to be corrected about Fields:
to say that we can't judge his development as a QB because Chicago didn't even give him a chance? this is nonsense, they had a decent o-line (better than anything Pittsburgh has built in 6-7 years which Fields is apparently now gonna "develop" behind lol), they traded down last year and added legit #1 WR, they have a great security blanket underrated TE in Kmet, they've had good run games, they have a quickly improving good young defense... at some point you DO have to place the blame for his lack of development at his own feet.... after all, Fields was known to be a project QB from day 1, and the fact that he literally complained/blamed his struggles on his coaches because they were giving him "too much information" (aka being coached to play in the NFL, he was raw, he needs a lot of it) and it was "too confusing" for him on the field because he expected to just play off reaction and athleticism like it was Ohio State which is obviously 100% NOT how the NFL works....
yet people blame Chicago and praise Pittsburgh as this place where offense goes to find new life, where he's gonna learn and develop and thrive in an organization that literally invests the least in their offense out of every team in the NFL? the Steelers have by far the highest defensive cap spending in the league, and what did they do this offseason? added a high priced LB and traded their #2 WR for a washed up cornerback.... hmmm yeah sounds like offensive development is a huge priority around there haha the only thing Pittsburgh specializes in offensively is finding hothead malcontent diva receivers
and also, side note from when he said Bryce Young was a consensus #1 like Caleb: this is a complete joke, even the Panthers didn't know who they wanted when they traded up, CJ was generally considered the obvious pick until all this weird stuff about David Tepper and his wife being enamored with Bryce Young's personality after a dinner started coming out and that clown shows intentions got leaked, THEN Bryce was suddenly favored to be the #1 pick..... but yeah that's totally the same as a phenom that had been sweeping college football for years and was projected as the #1 pick basically 3 years ago LOL give me a break

referencing the great organization and structure of the Steelers when we're talking about offense/QB development is just downright hilarious
no team in football invests less in the offense than the Steelers, they have BY FAR the highest defensive cap spending in the league while they haven't built a decent o-line in 6-7 years, and the only thing they specialize in on that side of the ball is finding headcase malcontent diva WRs, but as long as Tomlin has the highest paid safety, highest paid linebacker, highest paid d-linemen etc then he doesn't care much about the offense and is basically like "whatever guys, figure it out" ....... yet people think this is the "great structure" where a project QB will go to "develop" and thrive, unlike the team that built around him for 3 years, had a better o-line than anything Pittsburgh has, and was steadily surrounding him with weapons while the Steelers do things like trade their #2 WR for an overpriced washed cornerback HAHAHA no offense but people parroting this narrative are just clueless

These are two of the least of his problems. What he needs to do is improve at reading a defense presnap & post snap, and stop double clutching because he doesn’t trust what he is seeing until guys are already obviously open, because by then it’s usually too late already. He has to get better at being decisive. That’s why he keeps getting sacked, in spite of being as athletic as he is. He either doesn’t see it, or he doesn’t trust it, until it’s too late. Making his drop steps or throwing motion a full second faster is not going to help him at all, because they aren’t causing his problems.

Bears fan. Everyone keeps mentioning how excellent Fields was his last set of games. He completed 11 passes against the Packers last game of the season for 140 yards and 0 TDs in arguably the biggest game of the year. He consistently fumbled in 4th quarter and couldn't finish games. He was the 34th ranked QB in 4th quarter last season. He eats sacks constantly. He gets happy feet. He can't read the field. Our 2nd leading WR had 30 catches. Mooney is not a bad WR. He just got 13 mil a year from Atlanta. He had 1000 yards as Justin's #1. He can't find the #2. They had to scheme only screens because he can't process. He will continue to get injured given his playstyle. Yes his weapons were poor, his coaching was poor, roster was poor, all together situation was poor but I learned who Justin was and so will Pittsburgh. There's a reason next years 6th was the best or near best offer. He will play exceptional against the Cardinals then complete 10 passes against a playoff defense. He's Tyrod Taylor. He's Tyler Huntley.

In Russell‘s oldest season, which is last year, none of Justin Fields seasons were even close to those numbers.
You guys who defend Justin Fields give him every excuse but even when I look at a shitty Chargers team, I can tell you that Justin Herbert is amazing. The Bears got Moore last year, they have a solid running game, their defense is good, and they have a decent tight end. They want enough games to be the ninth overall pick.
You have to be an accurate passer and not turn the ball over, guess who led the league in fourth-quarter interceptions last year? You guys have some love affair with Justin Fields, and it’s beyond me and even the pros can get it wrong much like Louis Riddick did right here.

Everyone on the bears right now was not a part of the organization when fields was drafted: Poles, Eberflus, Warren were all brought in after the fact.

Mahommes doesn't play exactly like Alex Smith. I think it's pretty simple. Justin is going to sit behind Russel and learn. A bad Russell was as good as anything Puckett showed. Justin will learn and then become the starter. They are revooting what they should have done with Rothlisberger

I agree with a lot of what he's saying but comparing him to Stroud based on the stereotype of OSU qbs? Idk if it's so smart to take the best rookie QB since Luck and comparing him to a guy who hasn't averaged more than 250 pass yds a game. It's true that he walked into a shitty situation but now it's up to him to show that it was Chicago and not him. Rooting for the guy.

Not sure what I'm missing in Fields. See him as a career backup or spot starter at best. Maybe if he gets to a McVey or Shanahan, it's different. But I don't see his pocket presence or field vision getting any better at this point. His scouting report was dead on.

The Colts needed a backup and they went and got Joe Flacco - who is a grizzled vet that can be plugged-and-played if necessity strikes. The Steelers needed a backup and they went and got Justin Fields because he was cheap.
If the Steelers were smart, which they are not, they would use Fields like the Saints used Taysom Hill for one year and then wave goodbye to him.

3:44 seconds. It feels wrong about Russ and Justin. Cause there's a QB coming off of a big injury making $100 million plus. Other QBs nowhere near as talented as Fields or Wilson, and they're making 10 TIMES AS MUCH AS BOTH OF THEM?! I don't buy that. The coaches are trippin' in the NFL. Every QB signed for money ain't gonna elevate a single roster the way Wilson and Fields have for the Steelers. It feels egregious..

but sure, with a worse o-line and fewer reps and fewer weapons, Fields will "develop" hahaha ok

I think there's several things being missed in the discussion about the Steelers volubly repeating that Russ is QB1.
The offense is still quite young and they can use the clarity.
Both QBs and the offense are all new to the Arthur Smith system and they expect Russ to pick it up faster, or to just be himself no matter the system, either way providing clear leadership for the young offense.
Heck, Arthur Smith is very likely still 'in the lab' dreaming up new ways to play with the new toys.
And here are more things that really matter right now and going forward...
The Steelers are trying to give Justin Fields a chance to decompress with zero pressure after being mauled by Bears. I feel that Fields is the real long term goal and they want to give him a real shot at a fresh start with no QB1 performance and leadership pressure during this off season.
Also, Russ being named starter gives him a do-over on going to a new team as the main man.
Finally, the Steelers are working towards a do-over of their own: first, success with a HOF QB at the end of his career followed by a easy transition to a high potential young mobile QB.
So... anything else (QB competition or Fields as starter) seems more than a little bit crazy by comparison.

Justin starting would add a youthful spark to their offense. and itll be big news. Justin is too talented to sit for an entire year. That 6th pick the bears got will turn into a 4th. a high 4th if the Steelers under perform.
