Most underrated character of the whole saga. Zelenka swearing in Czech made the show feel more international. He was a charming character and I really hope we will see him again.
My wife is Czech and would not watch Atlantis when it first came out. So one evening we turned on the TV to get ready to watch SG1 and there was Zelenka talking in Czech about the rise of Atlantis. She went crazy. Needless to say she was a huge fan of Atlantis an we got season one on DVD just so she could see all the ep with him in it.
Zelenka was a wonderful bilingual character. Stargate in all series iterations has been a model of what International cooperation should be about. Zelenka's acerbic interaction with McKay was one of the comedic highpoints of Stargate Atlantis.
I’m realizing now how many times(that I can remember) Zelenka got “busted up”. Micro asteroid through the leg, stabbed in the torso, power conduit discharge through the chest, and the vines that got him when the “infant wraith ship/virus” took hold in Keller.
Loved this interview ❤️ I always really liked Zelenka and how he would get exasperated by McKay... loved it when he’d break out in Czech even though I never knew what he was saying ... but I could imagine 😂
I wish they would have made at least one episode where maybe McKay had to be away to earth for whatever reason and Zalenka would show that he is second to none, only too shy to actually speak up and do what needs to be done when McKay is around..
I'm so glad we got this interview, and it would be great to have more. Zelenka was a great character, and instead of a bit part, he got to be a supporting, recurring character, with humor, a real personality too. I was very impressed that we got a Czech character, with real Czech speech, rather than a stock character, as an indication of the other international characters. (I'm not Czech, but I love languages, and Stargate's real interest from the start in using other languages, recognizing that people speak and think, believe differently, have real cultural depth, was something that drew me as a fan from the first movie and through the TV franchise. (I had not known that the actor was a Canadian Czech! I'd thought he was a Czech actor. Well, he is, but a Canadian Czech actor. :) ) -- LOL, fun with the cats giving him a hard time. :D -- I'd love to see Zelenka in the new 4th series, if we get it.

I'm from Czechia and I teaching english almost 7 year and my Ievel is not like that. I must say his english is pretty nice with english accent and now I'm jealous. 😁 David is my favorite actor in Stargate because I respect a Czech Person in in this kind of movie. Someone compared Zelenka to Hermiod as they both used to mutter under their breath in their native language lol Zelenka was my fav charrie, along with Todd, I miss Atlantis, we needed a film.
I wonder if Shepard realy learned some Czech when they are traped with Zelenka in the Jumper under water and Zelenka curses in Czech - "What idiot thought we will be under water this time." and Shepard reply... I think my Czech is getting better, because I know what you mean! :-D It was soooo funny!
I don't have that feeling. I think Sheppard was deducing off the context and Zelenka's expressions and intonation... Fun fact: in czech dub Sheppard says “I didn't hear you very well from back there, but I know what you probably mean."

I never knew Radec was the character"s first name: thought Zelenka and Radec were 2 different Doctors who looked an awful lot alike. Most of the people who's name I remember from the Navy had two last names, if I remembered their first name now that I think of it.

I always hated it when people were supposed to speak in a different language and are not actually able to speak the language. It makes someone who actually speaks the language hate the show for doing that. This thing where Zalenka not just pretends but actually speaks and swears in Czech is a great example how you make people love the show.
It is so popular in holywood to do so with eastern europe. Sometimes actor even knows this launguage, but director is "nah, you will say it differently"
