Dude your work is always on point! Props for that. Loved the interview with the Honda HRC head, you looked very prepared and it’s clear he enjoyed as well. Keep up the good work!
Great looking and sounding bike. I bought the kx250x and dig it. So cool to see as I get better at riding I can always upgrade to this beast. And if $200 tank is an issue you can buy the bike and tank and still save thousands over the other xc's
And 8 months later I bought the 2022 kx450x and it is every bit the beast I imagined, but was very surprised by the suspension difference from theb250x KYB's to these Showa. I absolutely do not like the Showa compared to the KYB's. Wish they would have stuck to KYB for both bikes. Gonna swap to racing the 450 in 2023 and see how it goes.
I too like the kyb, but my dealer has a 21 450x marked down 3400k, so I might go ahead and grab it, although I was leaning towards the 250x. What's your thoughts on the two?
@joelthomas4487 I have review videos of both on my channel, but short story is the 450x is going to be harder to ride in tight woods and would be better for more experienced riders, where the 250x does great everywhere and doesn't have the flame out and stall issues the 450x does.
Glad to see you back, Michael. Best reviewer out there! I think this bike might be just what I'm looking for, honestly. I'm looking for a trail bike of sorts that errs on the side of being aggressive. I guess my concern would be the suspension feel. Do you think that the 450X suspension is adequate with fine tuning and adjustments, or do you feel that a new spring rates in the front would be necessary? I am a 175 lb rider that likes to ride aggressively on trails, with maybe a small amount of actual track time. Thanks
It needs a bigger tank for sure. I will be looking at the Yamaha WR450F for trail riding, bigger tank and wide ratio transmission. Better bike for trail riding for me.
Love the kawi and always have just think it would be much better with a wider ratio transmission, wouldn’t stall as easily on the snotty hills and would cruise better on the open stuff It’s got the grunt to pull wider gears
I assume you're a smaller guy, would the rear suspension work well for a larger person? I'm 6'5" and 260lbs or should I look to the MX since my size would naturally make the suspension work more than a smaller person? That wasn't meant to be smart assed, I just don't have a starting point for someone my size. There aren't any videos that I've found reviewing off-road bikes w/ my size in mind.
No, it would feel harsh. Due to your weight, the bike would settle deeper into the stroke where it gets stuffed and harsher. Regardless of what bike you get, you should look into getting the correct spring rates for your build. You would need aroudn 2 to 3 rates stiffer than what most 450s come equipped with.
I have a 2019 and it’s great in flowy gncc with the right set up for me. Yes it is a MX bike but it’s also great in woods. I have different wheels/tires and gearing for MX vs Woods but I have to add that I can handle this bike superb an I’m not scared of it like a lot of people. Long as the bike is moving you don’t feel the weight. It’s actually planted and hooks up when needed. Not for everyone but definitely works good for me since I choose to have only one bike.
feather the clutch and it wont be jumpy. no need to stall with a clutch. why do kids expect to the motorcycle to do the riding for ya? You're the rider, do the work.

Nice! More off-road XC bike reviews, please! A shoot-out would be even better!

If they made the tank a half gallon bigger, I would be very intrigued.
Where did you get those numbers?
It's a good platform to start with for those of us that like to mod.
Great review I'd love to see mute offroad review from someone as meticulous as you..nice work
The issue of this is stalling in tight technical single tracks...
Hey i just picked one these up, planning to take it to mx track, i weight 180 how you think itll perform?

Looks like Michael has been eating good. Might need to go up a spring rate. Jk we love you Michael

I don't see how anyone can make it good in the woods.. I'm pretty decent but kill it all the time.. it's a moto bike. Definitely awesome for that.

Has anybody tried to take the motor down with the KX FI kit and handheld computer?

Who cares about a 18 wheel? How about a bigger tank?
This would be a sweet setup if it had a wide ratio gearbox.
