Excellent! I have an Onn soundbar connected via optical and can't use Apple remote to increase volume unless I'm on the bluetooth setting of soundbar but then vol up and down jumps too high or too low on a single up or down press on the remote.. Aside note....Funny, I'm watching this video and I keep seeing what I thought was a mouse cursor moving around on the video and thought it was my Mac being weird..but it's on your TV behind you as you're speaking and making hand gestures lol.
I use my ATV remote to control my TV volume up/down which in turn controls the receiver volume via CEC, the advantage for me controlling the TV via IR as opposed to the receiver directly is twofold (A) I get the native TV's UI showing volume up & down & (B) I have the TV set to auto power-off after 2 hours, as soon as I see the message that the TV will switch off in 5 mins a quick up/down on the volume gives me another 2 hours again. I have no use for setting the mute button for anything else but didn’t realise that it was an option so thank you for pointing this out 👍
One other tip. I say Siri turn on Apple TV and it turns on the Apple TV and it also turns on my anthem 1140 receiver as well as I set that up on my anthem receiver. Super simple. I also have it set up so I can I use the volume up and down on my Apple TV remote to control the volume on my anthem.
Until I had a specific control reason to augment the remote with power for another device, the concept of repurposing the mute button by learning another code hadn't occurred to me, but it works like a champ (until we another better remote). So, I figured it might still be a helpful concept to highlight for others.
@@JLRJ Bro use ya Apple Tv as it's on a different level compared to the shield! Like use "Infuse" it's an apple part that's on a different level to everything else. Umm, I'm on FrameStor, the biggest Private torrent site in the world for quality! & a few years ago I gave them a video to play & the uploaders got back to me & said yep, ya correct my shield can't cope with this video.....Not knocking the shield but it's still lower than most things...I wish you all the best

Thanks. This is a smart workaround. One less remote for one of my setups!
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much ....your videos helped me a lot
Cool. I can use that function. Thx.

That's using HDMI CEC controls, I assume? Which is sweet, but only works if you have an HDMI connection between the devices.
Fair play, but I've been doing this since I've had the ATV, I thought everyone had done this!

@@Techthusiasm Bro, I didn't say anything negative, hence I presumed everyone does this as I Have passed few years
I wasn't taking any issue with your comment, no worries! Just qualifying that I agree, it's been a great idea for a while. 👍
Thanks! You know I’m a nVidia Shield guy but I do,on occasions, use my ATV. I will remember this function!💯👴🏽
